The Art & Media Club, organized a “Poster Making Competition” in the Animation Department Lab held on 10.03.2021. The main objective of the competition was to ignite the fire of imagination and creativity in the students. The theme of the competition was ‘Save Environment’ or ‘Our Mother Earth’. Students were asked to express their ideas through paintings and sketches. The young learners displayed their artistic skills through an array of posters Students of all the departments participated in the competition with immense zeal and enthusiasm and made beautiful posters which gave the message of saving our mother Earth and providing a greener environment to our future generations. It was a great opportunity to watch these young minds creating and displaying their ideas on paper. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity. Around 17 students took part in this programme. The competition provided a platform for their creative expression.
ART & MEDIA CLUB – DRAWING COMPETITION
“Art connects what words cannot”. Keeping the same ideal at the forefront, as a part of the activity of Art & Media Club, the students of SLCS had an opportunity to participate in the “Drawing Competition” in the Animation Department Lab held on 09.03.2021. The students created magnificent sketches on paper with the Black & White Colors. The topic was related to the History & Heritage of our Country, where students could learn and engage in skillful learning through the medium of Art. All the Students participated with great enthusiasm, zest and exhibited their creativity. Around 83 students took part in this programme. The competition provided a platform for their creative expression.
CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME ON “AWARENESS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE PACKAGING INDUSTRY”
A Career Guidance Programme on “Awareness and Opportunities in the Packaging Industry” was organized for the first year students of batch 2020-23 on 03.03.2021 in the Animation Lab-I. The Guests of Honor for this event were Mr. Aswin, Managing Director & Mr. Purushoth, Design Expert from Shapers Studios, The Yellowbag Foundation, Madurai. Mr. Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Animation welcomed the guests and thanked them for spending time with the students of the college. They emphasized the fact that career decision is one of the significant decisions in one’s life and therefore it must not be taken under the compulsion of parents or peer pressure. They motivated the students to always follow their passion.They spoke about the path of entrepreneurship, the qualities of an entrepreneur and how they cannot be learnt but cultivated over time. The programme helped the students acquired a better understanding of the opportunities in the Packaging Industry.
Totally 30 students benefitted from this programme.
CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME ON “CURRENT TRENDS AND TECHNOLOGICAL UPDATES IN THE INDUSTRY”
The first year students of Animation department had the opportunity to partake in a Career Guidance Programme on “Current Trends and Technological Updates in the Industry” on held in the Animation Department Lab on 19.02.2021. The guests, alumni of the department (2017-2020 Batch), were enthusiastic to create awareness amongst the students. The Special invitees for the event were Mr. Karthikeyan, CG Artist, Octalion Media, Bangalore and Mr. Gurubaran, Freelance Artist, Chennai. Both of them inspired all the young minds by discussing the ample opportunities and varied career options available in the Animation Industry. They shared their experience and encouraged the students towards Internships after enumerating the positive points involved with it. They also spoke about the challenges awaiting them after they graduate.The event created awareness to and enriched the knowledge of the young, aspiring students.
Totally 30 students took part in this programme.
WEBINAR ON “WORLD RADIO DAY”
The Department of Animation and Art & Media Club celebrated “World Radio Day” on 13.02.2021 (Saturday). As part of the celebration, a webinar was organized between 02:30 P.M and 03:30 P.M through Google Meet. The welcome address was delivered by Mr.V.Chenthil Kumar, Head In-charge, Department of Animation.The Session was handled by Mr. Somaskandamoorthy, Former Director of Kodai FM. He has vast experience in the field of Radio and helped the students to get a complete understanding of the Radio, its history, work process and significance. He advised the students to develop their writing skills and acquired the habit of reading books. He, also, urged the students to participate in the community radio station situated in the college premises, which in turn will help them to explore and exhibit their talent. Totally 77 students from various departments benefitted through this webinar. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Faculty- Department of Animation. The webinar ended with the students giving a positive feedback.
EFFECTIVE USAGE OF MICROSOFT OFFICE
The Department of Animation organized a hands- on Training on “EFFECTIVE USAGE OF MICROSOFT OFFICE” for the faculty members of the institution on 03.12.2020. The Workshop started with a prayer song and Mrs.R.Suganthi Hepzibha, Head, Dept. of English delivered the welcome address. Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, SLCS delivered the presidential address. This workshop provided training on how to efficiently and easily use Microsoft Office software. The session was handled by Mr.V.Chenthil Kumar, Head, Department of Animation. Many faculty members from all departments of the college benefited by attending this workshop. Professors M. Purushothaman, P. Kishore Kumar and M. Abdul Aziz Hakkim from the department of animation made all the arrangements for this workshop. Totally 50 faculty members participated in this workshop.
EFFECTIVE USAGE OF MICROSOFT OFFICE
The Department of Animation organized a three-day hands-on Training on “EFFECTIVE USAGE OF MICROSOFT OFFICE” for the Non-teaching Staff of the institution from 09.11.2020 to 11.11.2020. This workshop provided training on how to use Microsoft Office software efficiently and easily for office work. The session was handled by Mr.V.Chenthil Kumar, Head of the Animation Department. Many office staff members from all departments of the college benefited by attending this training workshop. Professors M. Purushothaman, P. Kishore Kumar and M. Abdul Aziz Hakkim made all the arrangements for this workshop. Totally 11 staff members participated in this workshop.
FREE EYE SCREENING CAMP
The Department of Animation and the Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organized a “Free Eye Screening Camp” in association with Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai for the welfare of Teaching and Non Teaching Staff on 04.11.2020 (Wednesday). The Inaugural function started with a prayer song followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, SLCS. Dr.R.Lakshmipathy, President, SLF delivered the presidential address and the special address was given by Mr.Murugesan, Camp Organizer, Aravind Eye Hospital. Ms.Sailakshmi, Asst.Prof., proposed the vote of thanks and the function ended with the National Anthem.
This Free Eye Screening Camp was conducted to create awareness about the eye and to help everyone get a free eye checkup which they were unable to do so due to lack of time. Around 200 staff members from SLCS, RLIMS, RLINS & SLF, utilized this opportunity and got their eyes checked. Spectacles were ordered for those members with refractive errors. Staff members with serious ailments were advised to consult with Ophthalmologists at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. Mr.Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Department of Animation, Mr.Dhamodharan, Coordinator, YRC and Ms.Sailakshmi of Women Empowerment Cell and Healthcare Centre made all arrangements for the grand success of the event.
INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION DAY CELEBRATION – Day 3
The Valediction Ceremony of the International Animation Day Celebration 2020 was held on 31.10.2020. It started with a Prayer song and Mr.Gokul Ram of III year Animation gave the Welcome Address. Prof.Chenthil Kumar, Head of Animation Department the Chief Guests, Dr.R.Prabhakar Vedamanickam, Associate Professor, Department of Tamil & Artist Thirunavukarasu. They delivered excellent speeches on the Topic “A Day with the Masters”. Dr.R.Prabhakar Vedamanickam is an experienced person in the Art & Media Field with an exposure of 30+ years. He delivered a Talk on” How to watch Paintings & Movies in a different Perspective?” He told the students that only watching movies doesn’t create any impact but listening to them makes a great impact in their lives. Mr.Thirunavukarasu advised the students to think out of the box so that they can shine in the Industry. The speech was followed by a Discussion forum. Posters of Short films made by the second and third year students were released. Ms.I.Swetha of II Animation proposed the Vote of Thanks. Totally 100 students from the department of the college participated in the event. Professors M. Purushothaman, P. Kishore Kumar and M. Abdul Aziz Hakkim made the arrangements for the Celebrations. The students gave a Positive Feedback about the entire celebrations.
INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION DAY CELEBRATION – Day 2
The second day (29.10.2020) started with the introduction of the Chief Guest, Mr.Santhosh Narayanan who is great Artist, Designer & Writer from Chennai by Prof.Chenthil Kumar, Head of Animation Department. He gave an amazing speech on the Topic “A Day with a Minimalist”. He spoke of the concept & history of Minimalism in a lucid manner so as the students could easily understand. He also advised the students to read a variety of books to enhance and develop their knowledge which is an essential skill of an artist. He led the session to a Discussion forum which forced the students to interact and resulting in sharing of knowledge. Totally 100 students from the department of the college participated in the event.
