ANTI – RAGGING COMMITTEE

INTRODUCTION

The College has formed Anti Ragging Committee as per the UGC guidelines Ragging is the Supervisory and Advisory Committee in preserving a Culture of Ragging Free Environment in the college Campus. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in inside and / or outside the campus and anyone found guilty of ragging and or abetting ragging whether actively or passively, or being a part of conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished in accordance with UGC Regulations (No: UGCD – Rag/C/96(15)/SCHE/2009) circulated on April 13, 2009, ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, and anyone found guilty of ragging is liable to be punished in any one or more than one way mentioned below:

  • Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student;
  • Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student;
  • Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student;
  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;
  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students;
  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, posts, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;
  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

OBJECTIVES

  • To prevent and protect the student community from being ragged or indulging in the act of ragging.
  • To bring awareness among the students about the ill effects of ragging, its impact on human life and consequences of involvement in the act of ragging.
  • To receive the complaints and resolve them through the Anti-Ragging Committee.
  • To initiate legal actions when required considering the intensity of ragging instances.

INTRODUCTION

Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) has been identified as the backward groups of Indian Society. They include all the castes, races or tribes, which have been socially, economically and educationally backward. The cell was started with the broad objective to bring these students into the main stream.

OBJECTIVES

  • Recognize meritorious students in academics and co-curricular activities by means of scholarships during the course of their academic pursuits in Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science (SLCS).
  • Support deserving students in merit basis and who may have to opt out of pursuing higher education due to economic reasons.

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE

INTRODUCTION

   The Grievance Redressal Committee was constituted to probe into the student grievances. The composition of the Grievance Redressal Committee is in accordance with the UGC (Grievance Redressal) Regulations, 2023. The function of the cell is to look into the complaints lodged by any student, and judge its merit. The Grievance cell is also empowered to look into matters of harassment. Anyone with a genuine grievance may approach the department members in person, or in consultation with the officer in-charge Students Grievance Cell. In case the person is unwilling to appear in self, grievances may be dropped in writing at the letterbox/ suggestion box of the Grievance Cell at Administrative Block. Grievances may also be sent through e-mail to the officer in-charge of Students’ Grievance Cell to the mail grievances@slcs.edu.in.

OBJECTIVES

  • Upholding the dignity of the college by ensuring a conflict-free environment in the college by promoting student-student relationship and student-faculty relationship
  • Encouraging students to express their grievances/problems freely and openly without fear of retribution.
  • Instructing students to respect each other’s rights and dignity and to show great restraint and patience when conflicts arise
  • Advising students to refrain from inciting students against other students, teachers and college administration
  • Instructing to all faculties not to act vindictively among the students for any reason.
  • Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited inside and outside the organization. Ragging and violation of disciplinary rules should be brought to the attention of the Headmaster immediately.

INTRODUCTION

Sexual Harassment at an Educational Institution is undoubtedly a violation of women’s right to equality, life and liberty. Hence,  in compliance with the guidelines on sexual harassment prevention in the workplace, issued by the Honourable Supreme Court of India in 1997 (Vishaka Judgement), Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science  has constituted Vishakha Committee with an object to promote the principle of gender equality enshrined in the Indian Constitution.  The Committee is intended to take utmost care of the grievances of girl students and female employees in the campus.

PROCEDURE

  1. Any person aggrieved by sexual harassment shall prefer a complaint before the Complaints Committee at the earliest point of time and in any case within 30 days from the date of occurrence of the alleged sexual harassment.
  • Provided that the Complaints Committee may entertain such complaint even beyond 30 days, if the complainant satisfies that the delay was caused due to reasons beyond her control.
  • The complaint shall contain all the material and relevant details concerning the alleged sexual harassment including the name of the contravenor and the complaint shall be addressed to the Complaints Committee.
  1. The Complaints Committee on receipt of the complaint shall follow the principles of natural justice by giving opportunity to the complainant and the person complained against. Then the Complaints Committee shall take immediate necessary action to cause an enquiry to be made discreetly or hold enquiry, if necessary.
  2. The Complaints Committee is only a fact finding Committee and it shall find out whether there is a prima-facie case. The Complaints Committee shall finish its findings of the Complaint within 60 days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
  3. The Complaints Committee, after examination and after giving an opportunity to the person complained against, shall submit its report to the Head of the Organisation / Department concerned. In turn, the Head of the Organisation / Department shall forward the report to the concerned disciplinary authority for further action. If the complaint is made against Non-I.A.S. Head of the Department, the Complaints Committee shall submit its report direct to the Government which is the disciplinary authority.
  4. On receipt of the report from the Complaints Committee, the Disciplinary authority shall, after following the procedure laid down in the relevant rules decide as to whether any penalty shall be imposed or not, after considering the merits of each case.
  5. In order to prevent false and frivolous complaints, if the complaint is proved to be false, on receipt of the Complaints Committee’s report, the disciplinary authority shall initiate disciplinary action against the

The Complaints Committee shall prepare an Annual Report giving a full account of its activities during the previous year and forward a copy thereof to the Head of Organisation / Department concerned who shall in turn forward the same to the Government department concerned with his comments.
