The department of Animation and D.P. Roy Chaudhury Association jointly organized an Alumni Interaction programme on “Anitalk on Audio Production” on 17.07.2021 (Saturday) between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM through Google Meet. The Programme commenced with a prayer song by Ms.Hemalatha of III year Animation and welcome address delivered by Mr.Saravanan, Assistant Professor, Department of Animation. The main objectives of the programme was explained by Mr.Kishore Kumar, Assistant Professor & Head i/c, Department of Animation. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr.Lakshmikanth, Independent Music Composer and Singer, alumni of the department (2013-16 Batch). He addressed the students about the nook and corner of Audio Production in Films, Importance of Sound effects, Editing tools for Sound etc. He also emphasized the students that the Audio plays a vital role of the films especially during the creations of emotional sequences. The Students were very curious and actively participated. They clarified their doubts regarding the Audio Productions and the session ended with a positive feedback. Around 70 students participated in the programme.
Youth Skills Day Celebration 2021
The department of Animation & D. P. Roy Choudhury Association jointly celebrated the“World Youth Skills Day 2021” on 15.07.2021 between 10.00AM and 10.30AM through Google Meet. The Celebration commenced with a prayer song by Ms.C.Hemalatha of III year Animation and welcome address by Ms.I.Swetha of III year Animation. The objectives of the programme were delivered by Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c, Department of Animation. The Chief Guest of the celebration, Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, SLCS delivered a wonderful speech to the students. As part of the celebration, the Chief Guest launched the official Facebook page of the Animation Department, “ANIMATION SLCS”.The main vision of this page is to enhance and develop students’ work to the world, as well as to industry professionals,so that their creative talents can reach people all around the world which will potentially pave the way for a bright future. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Mr.P.Surya of II year animation. The faculty members Mr.M.Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Mr.M.Purushothaman, Mr.M.Naveendra Kumar & Mr.S.Saravanan made all arrangements for the programme. Around 70 students participated in the programme.
Value Added Course on “Adobe XD“
The Department of Animation conducted a Value Added Course on “Adobe XD“ for the I year students (2020-23 batch) from June 21 – 25, 2021. The Course was handled by an eminent company “Abservetch Pvt. Ltd” in Madurai. The First Day commenced with the Welcome Address delivered by Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c, Department of Animation.The session was based on the need and scope for UI & UX Design for Android App development. Before the Class commences, they taught the students about the installation of software used for the UI & UX Design, what are the problems faced during the installation process were discussed. The students learnt how to develop simple UI & UX Designs for android applications and they are familiar with how to create an app, and run the app, how to display the contents in the text box as simple text. From this, they learnt how to use the components in the app development and also learnt to host the app in various platforms. They are very well trained with how to use Adobe XD software for UI & UX development for the mobile application. Students felt that this value added Course was very much useful for them and they got the idea for developing UI & UX Design for mobile applications. Totally 30 Students were participated and benefitted from this course.
PRIZE WINNING PROGRAMME CEREMONY
The department of Animation & DIRA Studios, Netherland jointly organized a Creative Mind competition for the Students of Animation Department. The Prize Winning Programme Ceremonywas conducted virtually on 09.06.2021 between 02.00 PM and 03.00 PM. The Programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, Instructor-Animation. The main aim of the event was explained by Mr. Kishore Kumar, Head i/c, Department of Animation and the felicitation address was delivered by Dr.S.Priya, Dean-Academics. The Presidential Address was given by Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, SLCS. The specialinvitee, Mr. Raj Thilak Ramachandhranfrom DIRA Studios,Netherland who created awareness among the students who can better opportunities and career progress after completing this much reputed programme.
The Contest was conducted in two categories – Comic Strip and Motion Poster. The main aim of this event is to identify and enhance the hidden talents of the students. The winners of the competition were announced by the respected Principal,Dr.R.Sujatha. She congratulated the students who took coveted prizes in the creative mind competition held virtually. The winners were Mr.Sandeep Raj for Motion Poster and Mr.Pavethran for Comic Strip from III year Animation. The Students were gifted with the Wacom Graphic Tablet, which is an essential accessory for the animators. The Students thanked the department and the DIRA Studios for organizing such an excellent programmes which encouraged them to do their best in the competition.The programme helped in bringing out the skills of the students in this domain.Around 60 students benefitted from this programme.
BOARD OF STUDIES MEETING – 2021
The department of Animation conducted its 16th Board of Studies Meeting on 31th May 2021 (Monday) at 03.00 P.M. through Google Meet. Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c and Chairman of the BoS welcomed the gathering and explained about the skeleton of the entire syllabus and the revisions made for the upcoming academic year (2021-2022, Odd Semester). Dr. A.Meshach Ponraj, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, School of Information Technology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, was invited as the University Nominee. Dr.S.Saleema Rabiyath, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, DDE, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and Dr.Arun Gourav Ram, Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of Media & Entertainment Management, LV Prasad Film & TV Academy, Saligramam, Chennai took part in the BoS meeting as the Subject Experts. Mr.Krishna Babu, Texturing Supervisor, Xentrix Studio, Bangalore was invited as the Industry Expert & Mr.Bala Seyameshwaran, Managing Director, Seyamesh Solutions, Madurai as Alumni Member. Ms.Swetha of II Year Animation and Ms.Madhubala of I Year Animation as the student representatives. All the members gave their valuable suggestions and recommendations about the syllabus. Mr.M.Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Mr.M.Purushothaman, Mr.S.Praveen Kumar and Mr.N.Naveendra Kumar other members of the meeting made all the arrangements.
International Webinar on Visual Effects (VFX)
The Department of Animation organized an “International Webinar on Visual Effects (VFX)” through Google Meet on 16.05.2021, Sunday between 09.00 AM and 11.00 AM. The Programme commenced with the introduction given by Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor and the Welcome address was delivered by Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, Instructor of the department. The Resource person for the event was Mrs.Janavi Ramasamy, Senior Compositor, ZOIC Studio BC, Canada. She was invited to share her wisdom with audience, who were students in hopes of flourishing in this field. She gave new perspectives on the overview & process of Visual Effects in Industry. She gave her insights from time to time, on the common issues faced by the VFX crew in the main production. She emphasized the efficiency of visualization and widening of the writer’s creativity, because of CGI. She encouraged aspiring VFX artists to be confident in their dreams as the demand for VFX is constantly increasing. She built around the role of future media technologies and in fact, they dissected and explained the various nuances that link the advancement of VFX and its lasting effect on cinema. On the whole, the webinar was very interactive and informative. 72 students from the department attended the webinar.

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME ON “OPPORTUNITIES IN THE VISUAL EFFECTS & IMPORTANCE OF MATCH MOVE IN THE INDUSTRY”
The Department of Animation organized a Career Guidance Programme on “Opportunities in the Visual Effects & Importance of Match Move in the Industry”through Google Meet on 08.05.2021, Saturday between 02.00 PM and 04.00 PM. The Programme commenced with the introduction given by Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor and the Welcome address was delivered by Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, Instructor of the department. The Resource person for the event was Mr. Mithun, 3D Match Move Artist & Trainer, Phantom FX, Chennai. He is a prominent Alumnus of the department (2012-2015 Batch), very keen to create awareness about VFX among the students. He gave a demonstration and motivated the students by describing the pipeline of the film production, trends & techniques, the numerous openings and diverse career opportunities available in the Industry. He shared his experience and inspired students through the Discussion forum. The event helped the students to enrich and enhance their knowledge. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms.I.Swetha of II Animation.
Totally 71 students were benefitted from this Programme.
Workshop on Stop Motion Animation
The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation department organized a One Day Stop Motion workshop for the Students of Animation Department on 29.03.2021 through Google Meet. The Workshop commenced with a welcome address by Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Asst. Prof., Department of Animation. The workshop provided the students with the much-needed industrial exposure and they learnt about the tips and tricks during the Stop Motion Animation. The trainer of the workshop is Mr.S.Praveen Kumar, Instructor, Department of Animation. He trained the students with the Clay Materials and also explained how to capture the Motions and the software used. The Students were very positive with the workshop; they felt workshops like this will give them the right foundation and insight into future ventures and all the students gave a positive feedback. Totally 60 students participated in the workshop.
WORKSHOP ON “ANITALK ON TEXTURING”
The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation Department organized a one day Workshop on “Anitalk on Texturing” on 20.03.2021 between 02.30 P.M. – 05.00 P.M. at Animation Lab-III. Mr.M.Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Assistant Professor welcomed the gathering. Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor, introduced the resource person, Mr. Krishna Babu, Texturing Supervisor, Bangalore. The key objectives of this workshop was to enlighten the students about the knowledge of Texturing and its importance, wrapping up the UV in 3D Model, Process of Painting, and essential software required in the industry. He also explained the pipeline of the texturing process and showed some examples to the students.
The Students showed their involvement towards the session by raising queries which were clarified by the resource person. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms.I.Swetha of II year Animation. The Department Faculty members Mr.M.Purushothaman, Mr.M.Abdul Aziz Hakkim and Mr.N.Naveendra Kumar made all the arrangements for this workshop. 45 students benefitted through this workshop.
CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME ON “OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FIELD OF ADVERTISING AND DIGITAL MARKETING”
The first year students of Animation department had the opportunity to partake in a Career Guidance Programme on “Opportunities in the Field of Advertising and Digital Marketing” held in the Animation Department Lab on 19.03.2021. The Alumni of the department (2017-2020 Batch), were keen to create awareness among the students about the field of Advertising Industry. The Special invitees for the event were Ms. Uma, Client Service, 2ADPRO, Chennai and Ms. Sowmiya, Graphic Designer,Cbra Pvt. Ltd,Madurai. Both of them motivated all the fresh concentrations by conferring the plenty openings and diverse professional opportunities available in the Industry. They shared their knowledge and encouraged the students towards Placements after enumerating the optimistic points involved with it.The occasion made awareness and improved the knowledge of the students.
Totally 30 students took part in this programme.
