SICA – International Chefs Day

South India Chef’s Association – SICA chefs in Madurai have organized International Chefs Day and it is celebrated every year. This year, it was a special year for them, to serve the needy and deprived children ( HIV Positive ). They decided that the children’s want to be happy and enjoy the program and the Association has organized in such a way to meant for this deprived children and was organized in Rio Grande Residency, Madurai. The event includes knowledge sharing session, fun games, poster presentation, dance, magic show and distribution of love through fun filled food items.  Our students of II year nearly ten students and three staff (Mr.C. Sureshkumar, Head of the Department, Mr. P. Anand, and Mr. M. Maheshkumar ) have participated in this program and they serve this children.

The main objective of this International Chef Day celebrated poster presentation on “Food’s for Healthy Heroes”. Around 8 colleges nearly 85 students have participated in this program. Celebrity’s Chefs from various hotel and industrial experts inaugurated this program. Our students (Ms. Surya, Ms. Lavanya, Mr. Kesavamoorthy, Mr. Karan Singhaal, Mr. Murugan)have got second prize and received Silver Certificate for Poster Presentation. Mr. Saran Dass, Mr. Thirumal Raj, Mr. Marudamuthu, Mr. Adiya Uday) have won third prize – Bronze Certificate for Poster Presentation.

Extension Program – Kombadi

The department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has organized an Extension Program on food habits and hygiene to the Kombadi Village people on 3.11.2017, around 57 village Women’s and 30 students of MC&HM have participated in this program. The department faculty, Mr. Perumal Kannan (Asst. Prof), gave the welcome speech and Mrs. G.S.Subbulakshmi (Asst. Prof) has explained the knowledge of food safety and hygiene through Power Point Presentation. The topic covers the issues of Poor Personal & Food Hygiene, sanitation; Environment issues in our day-to-day life style .Mr. P.Anand, Asst Prof gave Vote of thanks. They all were very happy and satisfied for that program. At last we got feedback from the participants.

Orientation Programme

Our department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management, have organized orientation programe for the department students on 1.11.2017 at 9.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Our Head, Mr. C.Sureshkumar, have addressed all our students and informed about the College/ Department new rules and regulations, Academic details, Syllabus, Attendance, Internship program, Departmental Activity for the Even semester, performance of the students and the steps to be taken for the weak students, Discipline, to the students, STCW, INDOS, CDC, Outdoor catering etc.

KCC FOOD FIESTA

Department of Hotel Management and catering science of  Kodaikannal Christian college ,Kodaikannal has organized the Food Festival and conducted the competition like Fireless cooking and flower arrangement , our department 8 students has participated in that program

 

Training in Chemical Usage in House Keeping

The department of Marine Catering and hotel Management has organized Training in Chemical Usage in House Keeping for the staff working in the canteen and Mess staff on 15.09.2017. we have discussed Health and physical hazards of the cleaning chemicals ,Proper handling, use and storage of all cleaning chemicals being used including dilution and Procedures when a cleaning product must be diluted before use.

National Seminar on “ Tourism and Hospitality Education in India ”

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized National Seminar on the topic “ Tourism and Hospitality Education in India”on 15.9.2017.   We have invited Mr. Lenin Balakrishnan, Lemuria India Holidays, as Chief Guest. Mr. M.S. Rajmohan, Head, GTN College of Arts and Science & Alumni of our college enthusiastically participated in this National Seminar. Nearly around 7 colleges from TamilNadu and other states have actively participated in this seminar. Nearly 150 (including staff and students) paper presentation script was received and totally seven students from our college & other colleges have taken seminar. The outcome of this seminar was excellent, many of the students gained the importance of tourism and its development in india as well as in other countries. The basic requirement essential to uplift the hospitality professionals in their own field, the prospects of tourism in the world wide, the upcoming of digital tourism based on technological implementation and the various steps taken by the government to develop, improve the tourism in India.

Training in Quality Cooking Skills and Techniques

The department of Marine Catering and hotel Management has organized Training in Quality Cooking and Techniques for the staff working in the canteen and Mess staff on 02.09.2017. The most important hard skill chefs need is an ability to cook, as well as knowledge of the kitchen. This broad skill includes a variety of smaller skills, including knife skills and tasting skills. Chefs need to be able to cook precisely and efficiently

CHEFTASTIC – Cookery Competition

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has organized an Inter – department cooking competition “ CHEFTASTIC” on 31.8.2017 at 9.30 a.m. The students of various departments have registered their names to the Programme Co-ordinator Mr. Anand, Asst Professor, 13 teams were registered. On the day of cooking competition, our Principal inaugurated the competition followed by that, our Head of the Department have welcome the team members and explained the rules and regulations of the cookery competition. The programme started enthusiastically, and the team were displayed very attractively with menu card. We invited Chef. K. Suresh, Hotel Fortune Pandian, Madurai as a chief guest and he judged the dishes prepared by the team members based on certain criteria and score have been given and the participants were provided with participant’s certificates and the winners were awarded with certificates and prizes.

Students Achievement in “Cheftastic”

On 31st August 2017, cheftastic (intercollegiate competition) conducted by the Department of Maritime Hospitality Studies in our college. Mr. Suresh Kumar (Executive chef of Fortune Pandian Hotel, Madurai, Chief Guest of the Competition also Judge of the Contest. Totally 13 teams from various Departments of our college participated in this contest. From our Animation department two teams were participated.

P.S.Monisha, N.K.Buvaneshwari Meena of III Animation participated as a team and Prepared Fish Curry, Uppu Kari, Kerala Aviyal and Erissery.M.Dharane, R.M.Pavurna of III Animation participated and prepared chicken Briyani, fish fry with mint juice& Green chutney.P.S. Monisha and N.K.Buvaneshwari Meena won the Competition.

Training in Flower Arrangement

The department of Marine Catering and hotel Management has organized Training in Flower Arrangement for the staff working in the canteen and Mess staff on 26.08.2017. We have given training to the workers cutting fresh, fragrant blooms from the garden and using them to make colorful displays for photo shoots, videos or events. We have shared lots of information and many of my tips in my magazines and books.
