Workshop on “Application in Food Industry for Innovation”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized a Workshop on  “Application in Food Industry for Innovation ”  13.05.2022 at Seminar Hall. Totally 25 students(Thirteen I year students and 12 II year) students from FS &PM eagerly participated in this program.. Dr.S.Geethanjali was the trainer for this workshop and focus to enhance the theoretical knowledge in the field innovation in food industry. The trainer spoke about the various applications and it’s in our daily life like smart farming, smart office management as well as smart home management in current trends .At the end of the session the students gathered an appreciable level of knowledge about the different techniques career opportunities in food   industries with utmost satisfaction.

Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj seva) on “Importance of value added products

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj seva) at Kavanur entitled Importance of value added products” to the farmers on 28.04.2022.  Thirteen students of I Year FSPM educated the farmers by interacting with them on the use and benefits of value added products.  They insisted on exploring the current farming practices followed by the farmers involved in paddy seed production, their reason for the adoption of seed production and the constraints faced by them. Totally 13 students of FSPM  participated in this outreach program.

Outreach program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Health and hygienic practises among the Street vendors”

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an Outreach program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Health and hygiene practices among the Street vendorson 24.04.2022 at Thirumangalam. Thirteen students of I Year FSPM gave a brief explanation about the health and hygienic practices including environmental causes around the stall, personal hygiene, and food storage facilities at the stall, utensil maintenance, and licensing among the street vendors. Finally the students counselled the street vendor’s that street food not only provides convenience for many people but also the livelihood for millions of low income people, making a great contribution to the economy of many developing countries.

Value Added Course on “Basic Medical Coding ”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management have organized a Value added course on “Basic Medical Coding ” from 12.04.2022 to 21.04.2022 through this link http://meet.google.com/mav-hnze-fbp  . 14 (III year) students and 13 (II year) students from FS &PM totally 27 students eagerly participated in this program.. This course was presented to the students which included theoretical and hands- on training program with coding aspects. Head trainer Mrs.A.Regina Elizhabeth, was the trainer for this value addition Program and began the activity with an elaborate explanation of anatomy, physiology, medical procedures, and payer rules and policies.  At the end of the day students gathered an appreciable level of and theoretical and practical knowledge about the medical coding with utmost satisfaction.

Outreach Program (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on “Dietary Management on Living Well With Renal Disease”

FAGAS an association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an Outreach Program (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on “Dietary Management for Living Well with Renal Disease” at Govt. Rajaji Hospital, Madurai on 18.04.2022.  Thirteen students of II Year FSPM explained the dietary steps to be followed and how to choose and eat right foods to manage the kidney disease & finally the students gave counselling on the importance of health and hygienic practices during convalescence period.

ALUMNI INTERACTION ON “GOING ANY WHERE STARTS HERE”

An alumni interaction session on “Going Any where starts here” was organized by FAGAS, an association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Alumni Cell for I&II year students on 08.04.2022 in G14 Classroom at 10.00-10.30am. Ms. M. Yuvareka (Batch 2018-21) studying in M.Sc Food and Nutrition Mother Teresa Women’s University Madurai spoke about possibilities of new domains after completion of Food Science and Processing Management course and also emphasized the importance of communication, leadership and team building skills, career opportunities,  and competencies needed for food processing industry both in public and private. She also focused on participative learning in techno cultural activities like quiz, debates, music etc. Totally 26 students (13 students from I Year &13 students II Year) of our department participated in this interaction session.

Career Counselling session on “Placement opprtunities in medical coding ”

A Career Counselling session on Placement opportunities in Medical coding was organized by FAGAS, an association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Career Counselling cell for 40 students of I, II and III year FSPM students on 08.04.2022 in seminar hall Ms. Regina Elizabeth, coordinator in IDA medical coding was the trainer of this session and spoke about the Medical coding is an upcoming in-demand field in the stream of Healthcare Administration. Among the various upcoming career opportunities; Medical Coding is also a very good career option for the youth of our country. With the growth of the various sectors, healthcare sector is also witnessing a sudden growth in our country. The session mainly focus and enhance the student skill regarding  how to focus on the chosen career and what are the efforts to be put in to make that dream true. The students actively participated and interacted with the expert.

Seminar on “Evaluation of Nutraceutical foods in active packaging”

         To commemorate “World Health Day – 7th April”, FAGAS  Association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management& Health and Nutrition Club jointly  organized an seminar  on “Evaluation of Nutraceutical foods in active packaging “on  07.04.2022 between 11 am  and 12 pm at SLCS Seminar hall .Ms.Shivpoornima Freelance Nutritionist was the resource person of this session briefly explained  the spirit of world health day and our students  gathered the information about the importance of nutraceuticals food in relation to health .Twenty six students (13 students from I year & 13 students from II year) of  our department  actively participated  interacted with the expert.

Seminar on “Thinking Outside the Shell”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management conducted a Seminar entitled “Thinking Outside the Shell’’ on 06-04-2022 between 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm. Ms. M. Velammal, Quality Assurance Executive, Rebel Foods, Chennai delivered the lecture about the processing, packaging and preservation techniques in various marine and meat products . The students gathered clear information about the different methods of processing and preservation of Fish, Meat and Poultry. Totally 22 students (11 students from I year &11 students from II year FSPM) from our department participated. At the end of the session, students clarified their doubts with the expert.

Career Counselling Session on “Insights and Opportunities in Food Industries”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Career Counselling cell jointly organized a Career Counselling session on “Insights and Opportunities in Food Industries” on 06.04.2022 at SLCS seminar hall around 2.30 pm. Twenty two students (11 students from I year &11 students from II year FSPM) of our department participated and got benefited from this session. Ms.M. Velammal, Quality Assurance Executive, Rebel Foods, Chennai addressed in detail about various career opportunities, skills and competencies needed for food processing industry both in public and private. The Government schemes and technological developments related to food processing were also narrated in detail. This session would definitely help our students to get an idea about start – ups through effective knowledge transfer. On the whole, it was interactive and the resource person answered the participant’s queries related to the career
