Workshop on “Novel usage on Natural Preservatives”

FAGAS, an association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management, organized a Workshop on “Novel usage on Natural Preservatives” at MCHM-Kitchen on 18.3.2022 at 1.30 pm. totally 23 students (12 II year) students and  (11 I year) students from our department  eagerly participated in this workshop. It was presented to the students, which includes theoretical and hands- on training program with manufacturing food products by using natural preservatives. Ms. M. Ragadeepa Assistant Professor, Dept Food and Dairy Technology, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, was the trainer, began the activity with an elaborate explanation of the natural preservatives and pros & cons of preservatives in Sherbat, Flavoured milk, Protein ball and Squash preparations.  At the end of the day the students gathered an appreciable level of practical knowledge about the preparation of novel foods as well as increase shelf life by using the natural preservatives with utmost satisfaction.

Administrative Training Program on “Novel usage on Natural Preservatives”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Administrative Training Program on “Novel usage on Natural Preservatives” at MCHM-Kitchen on 18.3.2022 at 10.00 am.  Nine Canteen and Mess staff members (Cooks & Service men) of SLF eagerly participated in this training program. Ms. M. Extension Activity (SLCS- Samaaj Seva ) on “Nutritional and Dietary guidance for School going children”

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity (SLCS- Samaaj Seva) “Nutritional and Dietary guidance for School going children” at Panchayat Union Public School, Nedumadurai on 18.03.2022.   Twelve FSPM second-year students taught the value of dietary habits with relevance to Recommended Dietary Allowances to the school going children belonging to the age (11-13 years). To raise awareness, our students provided counselling on the importance of various dietary practises and nutrients intake to be followed.

Extension Activity (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on “Benefits of Breast Feeding for Lactating Mothers and Infants”

FAGAS, an Association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) for Lactating mothers at a Primary Health Centre, Valayankulam on 15.03.2022. 13 students of II Year FSPM briefed the advantages of breast feeding for both lactating mothers and infants. Our students highlighted some dietary guidelines, suggested some healthy meal patterns and distributed pamphlets to them.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “NILA COLD STORAGE”

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial visit to Nila Cold Storage –Thoothukudi on 12/03/2022.  The students of I and II year FSPM (Totally 26 students) and two faculty members participated in the visit. It was an informative and interesting visit and the students learnt about the storage temperature, conditions and the factors affecting cold storage conditions in Cereals, Pulses, Flowers and also learnt on the importance of  Fish and Sea foods. Mr.Jeeva, Factory Manager explained the history, industrial development and technological aspects and professional ethics involved in processing. In general the visit helped us to gain some technical input to improve the shelf life by proper storage to avoid decay, contamination and spoilage.

Extension Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Learn with fun for Pre- schoolers”

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) “Learn with fun for Pre- schoolers on 28.02.2022. at Palanganatham. Four students from the second year FSPM led the activities that focused on health, nutritional facts and cleanliness. Finally, they provided colouring book, crayons and groundnut chikki to every individual child in order to create interest among the children to enhance their learning process.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “IDHAYAM”

FAGAS an association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial visit to Idhayam – Virudhunagar on 18/02/2022.  The students of I and II year FSPM( totally 26 students) and two faculty members participated in the visit. It was very useful and the students learnt about the processing steps involved in gingelly oil making. Mr.Sivamurugan Assistant HR explained history, industry development and technological aspect of oil seed processing and at the end of the session all the students interacted with Mr. Sivamurugan and got the doubts clarified. The visit was mainly focused to understanding  the practical knowledge involved during the processing.

Extension Activity SLCS- Samaaj Seva on “Diet Counselling for Elderly people”

On 16.02.2022, FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai, organised an extension activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) for the old age people in Anaiyur, Madurai, by giving Diet Counselling to the elderly people. Thirteen FSPM second-year students taught the value of healthy eating practises. To raise awareness, our students distributed brochures and provided counselling on the importance of various dietary practises to be followed by the old age people. Finally, our students demonstrated their readiness to give one month’s worth of groceries to the old age members.

Workshop on “Art of chocolate”

The Department of Food Science and  Processing Management and the Department of Marine Catering & Hotel Management jointly organized a Workshop on “Art of chocolate” from 14.02.2022 to 15.02.2022 at F36 class room. 32(II year) students from MC&HM, 12 (II year) students from FS &PM (totally 44 students) eagerly participated in this program. This workshop was presented to the students, which included theoretical and hands- on training program with manufacturing aspects of chocolate. Ms. Sanashree was the trainer for this workshop.She began the activity with an elaborate explanation of the art of chocolate and different varieties of chocolate Gateau preparations.  At the end of the day the students gathered an appreciable level of practical knowledge about the different varieties of chocolate with utmost satisfaction.
