22nd Sports Day

On 19.2.2017 , the 22nd Sports day was celebrated by SLCS & RLIMS. Dr. R.L.RAMNATH Principal, SLCS presided over the function .The felicitation address was given by our Vice Principal, Mr. K.ARCHUNAN. our Chief guest, Dr. K.CHANDRASEKARAN, Professor & Head ,Department of Physical Education ,Madurai Kamaraj University addressed the gathering with his motivational speech . He insisted that the students must develop their physical & mental strength .He also quoted the thoughts of Dr. A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM, the students of our country can manage this 21st century only if they have both mental & physical strength. Mr. P.THANGAMUTHU Physical Director of SLCS & RLIMS delivered the Annual Sports Report. The students of SLCS & RLIMS exposed their talents through various events like March-past, Aerobics, Karate, Gymnastic etc.

The students & the staff members were encouraged by the prizes and the prizes ware distributed by our Chief guest Dr. K.CHANDRASEKARAN. The overall winner is Challengers team & runner is Rockers team.

National Productivity Week – MPC

Madurai Productivity Council (MPC) celebrated National Productivity week from 12th t0 18th February 2017.Various events were conducted in various places of Madurai. As a part of it Students’ Day was celebrated on 13.02.2017 ,a full Day programme for students and research scholars in the SLCS Auditorium.The theme was “ From Waste to Profit Through Reduce, Recycle and Reuse”.Prof.G.Subramanian , former Director of RLIMS presided over the function. The felicitation address was given by Dr.R.Thiruvengadasamy , Director CCE, Kalasalingam University.The Chief guest was Dr.R.L.Ramnath, Principal , SLCS who delivered a wonderful speech regarding the theme.Many students & Research scholars from various colleges participated in the events like Paper presentations, Project presentations & Panel discussion.

Our Honorable President , Dr.R.Lakshmipathy gave the valedictory & encouraged the participants and the winners by distributing the prize. The session was ended with vote of thanks by Mr.V.S.Suresh Babu ,CEO of Suresh Marketing Associate.

Election Awareness Programme

Election Awareness Programme was held at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science on 11.11.2016. The Madurai District Collector Mr.K.Veera Raghava Rao, IAS., was invited as the Chief Guest. Students from various departments actively participated. A skit highlighting the theme that “Never sell your votes, and new voters should never hesitate for voting” was enacted. New voters were given a voting demo using a simulator voting machine. The Madurai District Collector Mr.K.Veera Raghava Rao, IAS., delivered the special address. The election oath was taken by the students in the presence of the Collector.

The programme was presided by the college principal Dr.R.L.Ramnath. The Vice Principal Mr.K.Archunan welcomed the gathering. NSS Coordinator Mr.S.Kumar delivered the vote of thanks. Management Executive Mr.Ramkumar, Director – RLIMS Dr.S.Rajasekar, Tashildar, Revenue Inspector, Village Administrative Officer participated. The programme arrangements were made by the Public Relations Officer Mr.K.Rajesh Kumar.

VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2016

Central Vigilance Commission, the Premier Integrity and Anti-Corruption Institution of our country observed Vigilance Awareness Week 2016 from 31.10.2016 to 05.11.2016. The objective of observing Vigilance Awareness Week 2016 is to create public awareness against corruption and for ensuring a wider outreach especially for creation of awareness on corruption and its effects amongst the youth and college students. SLCS as a stake holder also observed this program with a great effort. As a part of this program, as an outreach initiative, NTPL propose to organize the following program in our esteemed campus with an objective to create impactful awareness on the young minds of the students.

The theme of this year is “Public Participation in promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption.” Based on the theme various competitions like Elocution competition in Tamil and English and Essay competition in Tamil & English were conducted. Around 15 students participated in Tamil and English Elocution competition and 40 students in Tamil & English Essay competition.

A special Lecture program was also arranged and organized on 3rd November, 2016 at the SLCS auditorium. Shri.M.Suresh, Dy. General Manager/Vigilance welcomed the gathering. Our President Dr.R.Lakshmipathy gave his presidential address. Followed by him Shri.M.Prabhagar, GM/O&M and Shri.A.R.Neelakanta Pillai, CEO, NTPL, Tuticorin gave the felicitation address. Lime Ganesh, gave a special lecture on the eradication of corruption. The competition winners of the Vigilance Awareness Week 2016 were motivated by issuing awards and certificates. Finally, Shri.A.Perumalsamy, DGM/HR gave his vote of thanks and the program wound up patriotically.

GUEST LECTURE ON CINEMATOGRAPHY

A Guest Lecture on Cinematography was organized in the department of Film and Television Production on September 17, 2016.The second and third year students of B.Sc. film and television production and first year MS.c Visual communication participated in the Guest lecture. The Guest lecture was conducted by Mr.Saravanan Abimanyu a renowned Cinematographer who worked as a Cinematographer for the Tamil feature films “Eetti” and “555”. He discussed about the relationship between the director and cinematographer in the making of the film, the latest technology that is used in film making, lighting techniques, aesthetic of composition, conveying the mood of the scene through camera, artistic skill and dynamic role of cinematography in production. The students gained a lot of information which will be very helpful for them to get into the field in the near future. They also felt that the Guest Lecture will be very helpful for them to complete their projects during the academic.

Music Production Workshop – July 25, 2016

A pop-music production workshop was held at the department of Film and Television Production on July 25, 2016. The renowned pop singers Shakeer and Senthil trained the 3rd year students to compose the song. The objective of the song is about the current education system in India. “If the information is educated to the students in the correct way is the such a good thing other than else, but if it is forced on the students it is the most worst thing like a poison” is the sparking lyrics in the song. It gives a new enlightening to the parents, not to cut the wings of their children and stop them flying in their own sky of dreams. The visuals of the song is now under the production

Career Guidance Program

A Career Guidance Program was organized in Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, on 21st May 2016. Students, who completed +2 from the Krishnamal Ramasubbaiyer School Madurai, were invited along with their parents for the Career Guidance Program.

Principal SLCS, Dr.R.L.Ramnath, welcomed the gathering. He congratulated the staff members and the students for producing good result in the HSC Examination. He also congratulated the parents for taking effort to attend the Career Guidance Program for their children’s future.

President SLF Dr.R.Lakshmipathy delivered his Presidential Address. He highlighted the courses in our college. He also advised the parents and the students to select the best college with job oriented courses. In addition to that he also informed the infrastructure in SLCS.

Followed by the President, all the Department Heads informed the importance, openings, placements and the infrastructure of their department labs. Head Department of Tamil Mr.P.Senthil Kumaran gave the Vote of Thanks.

After the program, the parents and the students were taken for a campus tour to know about the infrastructure of the departments. Around 100 students along with their parents participated and benefited by the Career Guidance Program. On the whole the Career Guidance Program ended up in a productive manner.

  • R.L.Ramnath, Principal is nominated as the chairman in the place of Dr.A.Padmanabhan, on his retirement as Principal from the Academic year 2015 – 16.

  • V.Padmavathi, HoD i/c Commerce is nominated in the place of Mr.R.Sundareswaran, HoD i/c, Commerce from the Academic year 2015 – 16.
  • K.R.Sharmila, HoD i/c Maths is nominated in the place of Mrs.S.Mekala, HoD Maths from the Academic year 2015 – 16.
  • A.Chidambaram, Addl. COE is nominated as Educationist in the place of Dr.P.Puthiyanayagam, COE, SLCS from the Academic year 2015 – 16.

BUSINESS BROUGHT FORWARD BY THE BOARD OF STUDIES

  • The Boards of studies met on different dates and revised the syllabi for the various courses to be implemented from the Academic Year 2016 – 2017. Accordingly this was approved in the Academic Council.
  • It was resolved to ratify the change made in the academic year 2015 – 16 in all the departments to conduct Campus Recruitment Training program. The new papers that were introduced as Campus Recruitment Training – I, Campus Recruitment Training – II and Campus Recruitment Training – III in III, IV and V semesters respectively were ratified and approved.
  • The revised syllabus in all the departments for the first year 2016 – 19 batch in the academic year 2016 – 17 was approved.
  • It was resolved to ratify the inclusion of External Evaluation for the Part – IV papers like NME, Basic Tamil, Advanced Tamil, Value Education and Environmental studies.
  • The revised syllabus of Part – I Hindi for all the departments (2016 – 19) batch under CBCS was approved.

COMMON POINTS DISCUSSED

  • M.Muthumanickam, Registrar i/c, MKU suggested that a power point presentation may be given about the revisions in the syllabi in the Academic Council Meeting.
  • M.Muthumanickam also insisted on giving more reference books for each subject in the syllabi and also the order of writing the name, author of the reference books.
  • S.Andiappan, MKU nominee, recommended to introduce diploma course in “Gandhian Thoughts” for all the departments.
  • M.Subramaninan, Principal RLINS, advised to include the minimum pass marks for External Examination in the scheme of the syllabi in all the departments.
  • M.Subramainan, Principal RLINS, indicated that all the books available in the library for each subject can be included in the syllabi.
  • M.Subramaninan, Principal RLINS, also suggested that subjects related to safety measures can be introduced in the syllabus for the department of Maritime Hospitality Studies.
  • A.Nataraja Rathinam proposed that regarding rare courses like Animation, Film & Television Production promotions must be done in such a way that all the works done in the departments must reach the public.
