The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a bridge course for the first year students from 2.7.2019 to 4.7.2019. Mr. C. Sureshkumar, Head of the Department addressed the students and informed about the rules and regulations, Department Discipline, Academic details, Syllabus, Lesson plan, Attendance, Department Activity for the Academic year 2019, introduced the faculty members and Courses handling staff , and handed over the Bridge course manual, lesson plan, time table, attendance log sheet to the class representative. The respective staff members started their bridge course according to the schedule given by the Head of the Department.
National Conference On Emerging Techniques in Food Processing
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management student has participated National Conference on “Emerging Techniques in Food Processing” for two days (27.06.2019 & 28.06.2019 ) organized by IIFPT at Tanjore.
There are 21 students were participated in this program. The chief guest from various countries have effectively delivered their speech in the subject covers with Latest equipment techniques used in Food Processing unit and the Entrepreneurship development to the students in current scenario.
Career Counseling Program
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management have organized Career Counseling Program on 15.06.19. for all the third year students of our department. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. C. Sureshkumar, Head, Dept of MC&HM, Mr. Sandip Chothe, Training Manager briefed on the following titles and he gave the presentation also. The presentation entitled in the following headings:
- About the student’s selection of their company policy.
- Formation of their study habit and make them progress in those subject and activities and to attain the ultimate aim of getting good career as per their wish.
- Job responsibility of each and every individual position and persons.
- Responsibility of galley during operation.
Board of Studies Meeting
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management was conducted Board of Studies meeting held on 24.5.2019 at 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. in Training Restaurant. Prof. R. Panneer Selvam, Associate Professor, was acted as an University Nominee, & Dr. Rameshraj , Associate Professor , Dept of MC & HM Madurai Kamaraj University College was represented as a Subject Expert, Mr. C. Sureshkumar, Head of the Department was represented as a Chairperson, Department Faculties, Alumni, Parents and Student representative have participated as a members in the Board of Studies Meeting.
Workshop on Joy of International Cuisine
The department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management have organized a workshop on the topic “ Joy of International Cuisine 2019” on 27.4.2019 as an promotional activities, to create an awareness about the Marine Catering Course and many +2 students have participated in this program. Mr. Mohammed Sheriff, General Manager, GRT Regency Hotel, Madurai as a Chief Guest and delivered a speech to the student’s in a very constructive manner.
Corporate Training
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has organized special corporate training Programme to the heritage hotel employees in the field of food safety & hygine practices on daily duties.
Mr. C.Sureshkumar, HoD has exchange the knowledge in the terms of good practices of food handling procedures , safe working habits , food storage & purchase techniques to the employee to develop their self confidence and gives in terms of equipping staff members with the skills & techniques in various kitchen operations.
National Seminar on “Globalization and its impact on Tourism and Hospitality Education in India”
Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has organized National Seminar on “Globalization and its impact on Tourism and Hospitality Education in India “on 22.2.2019. We have invited as a chief guest L. Ravikumar, Additional General Manager, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (A Government of India Enterprise) Chennai. Dr.B.George , Principal i/c . Associate Professor & Head , Department of Tourism Management Madurai Kamaraj University College, Madurai he has taken technical session Dr.R.Kannan , Professor and Research Guide Center of Tourism and Hotel Management, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. he has taken technical session II Mr.Mohammed Shreiff. General Manager, Regency Madurai by GRT Hotels , Madurai He has given valediction. and Dr.P.Saravanan Principal, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science he has given presidential address on this programme.Totally 70 students got benefited through this program.

Dept of MC&HM has conducted course committee meeting on 20.02.2019 at 11.00 a.m. for the students of I year, and II Year.
INTER COLLEGIATE COMPETITION
Our First and Second year students of Marine Catering and Hotel Management have participated in Intercollegiate competition, conducted by Department of French, Fatima college, Madurai on 19.1.2019. Three students from Second year and five students from first year have actively participated in various competitions like Quiz, Dance, and Souvenir de France. Our students Mr. Kabilan, Mr. S.Surya, Mr. S.Saravanapandi and Mr. V.Saravanakumar have won Second prize in Dance competition and Mr. S.Gandhi Bhagavathi, Mr. M.Kesavaraj, Mr. K.V.Yokeshvaran and Mr.R.Danush have won Second prize in Souvenir de France competition. This helps the students to motivate and encourage them and to make an memorable experience.
EARN WHILE YOU LEARN
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management have enthusiastically organized specially for the students and have given an opportunity to prepare a various assorted sweets on their own with the support of the Head of the Department and faculty members. This enhances the students to develop their self confidence in various fields. The students have prepared with faculty support nearly around five sweets and two savories and they prepared 300 boxes consist of 500 gms in each box.. Various department faculty members and students were initiated to buy the sweets. The students have experienced the bulk cooking and earned Hands on experience and they gained knowledge in bulk production, indenting, costing and promoting marketing and sales. They sold the product on 11.1.2019 and 12.1.2019.
