SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA –AWARENESS ON RAIN WATER HARVESTING

Herbert William Henrich Association of the Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA– an extension activity program on “AWARENESS ON RAIN WATER HARVESTING” at ManaMadurai on 27/06/2022. A Student from III year FIS, K. Nivethan conducted the activity. He clarified to the public that Rain Water Harvesting is the process of saving and collecting rainwater for future use. He explained that water harvesting is very useful to meet various needs like recharge of groundwater, and reducing the electricity bill spent in supplying water whenever it is required. He insisted on the necessity of rainwater harvesting and how it prevents the risk of floods, and drought and also improves water quality.

          This initiative created awareness the public that Rain Water Harvesting is to use locally available rainwater to meet water requirements throughout the year without the need for huge capital expenditure. Around 15 People got benefitted from the activity.

KITCHEN SAFETY

HEBERT WILLIAM HENRICH Association of FIRE & INDUSTRIAL SAFETY Department in association with SLCS WOMAN EMPOWERMENT CELL organised an awareness program on 30/05/2022 on the topic “KITCHEN SAFETY”. Mr.V.DHAMOTHARAN & Mrs.A.PANDISELVI from the Fire & Industrial Safety department have acted as the resource person for this awareness program. This initiative created the awareness among the both male and female teaching staff who works in the Kitchen. During this activity the faculty members guided the people about the Safe Handling of Kitchen Appliances. The members explained what to do and what not to do during the happenings of fire accidents.

The aim of this activity is to emphasize and highlight about the need of safety precautions while working in the kitchen. Totally 18 faculty members got benefitted through the Kitchen safety awareness program.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA –AN OUTREACH PROGRAM AWARENESS OF DOMESTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT

Hebert William Henrich Association of Fire and Industrial Safety department organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an Outreach activity on “AWARENESS OF DOMESTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT” at Kanjanaiyakkenpatti, Aruppukkotti on 21/05/2022. The II year students have conducted the activity and created the awareness to homemakers about the segregation of  biodegradable and non biodegradable waste and how to store it separately for  handing over to municipal garbage Collectors or authorized waste pickers. Many homemakers were unaware of the hazards of solid waste such as offensive odour, health problems and aesthetic problem.

The aim of this campaign is to emphasize not to put waste in collectively in one dust bin and highlight about health issues and environmental issues related to it. The homemakers rendered their fullest cooperation & involvement of the students were commendable to reach out the maximum beneficiaries.

Totally 8 students got benefited through this program.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – AN EXTENSION ACTIVITY ON AWARENESS ON HEAT WAVES (SUMMER SEASON)

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an Extension Activity on “AWARENESS ON HEAT WAVES (SUMMER SEASON)” at Pandikovil, Madurai on 18/05/2022. 9 students from I & II year have conducted the activity and shared few tips to overcome the heat waves during the summer season along with the safety measures. The students suggested the people to avoid going out in noon time, stay hydrated by taking sufficient hygienic drinking water , wear light colored loose cotton clothes, avoid alcohol as well as tea & coffee, eat fresh seasonal fruits, avoid high protein food. The students also suggested the people to keep their home cool by using fans and damp cloth. The students also reiterated the people not to leave children in hot vehicle.

The aim of this campaign is to emphasize effects of ‘HEAT WAVES’ and save our health. The Village people rendered their Cooperation & the involvement of the faculty and the students were commendable to reach out the maximum beneficiaries. Nearly 20 peoples benefitted through the activity.

Environmental Health and Safety club

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety and Environmental Health and Safety club conducted Annual Day Dance Competition at bus shed on 17.3.2022. We planned two categories of dance competition; solo dance and group dance. Totally 7 members participated in solo dance and 8 groups participated in group dance. Finally, 3 teams from group dance and 3 participants from solo dance were selected.  The competition served as a wonderful platform for the students to showcase their talents.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA ON AWARENESS ON SCOURING OUT OF SYCAMORE OAK TREE (SEEMAI KARUVELA MARAM)

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an Extension Activity on “AWARENESS ON SCOURING OUT OF SYCAMORE OAK TREE (SEEMAI KARUVELA MARAM)” at Vidathakulam & Virusangulam on 15/03/2022. Our Department faculty members Mr. A. Jaiveer Kumar & Mr. V. Dhamotharan along with I & II year students have conducted the activity.They explained that the tree has deep roots that go several hundred feet deep and suck water from the ground, resulting in water level depletion. Seemai karuvelam does not have a definite height or root length. It varies based on where it grows. The students also explained that barren or land that has not been fertile for a long time is the ideal place for this species to grow. They guided to uproot the hardy species by three different ways of destroying seemai karuvelam. But the only lasting solution is to dig out the root, entirely using machines. There are biological as well as chemical methods to destroy the tree.

The aim of this campaign is to emphasize effects of Seemai karuvela maran and save the ground water. The Village people rendered their Cooperation & the involvement of the faculty and the students were commendable to reach out the maximum number of population in the society.

 

Totally 2 faculty members and 9 students participated in the event.

SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA ON ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AND AWARENESS OF ITS EFFECTS ON HEALTH

Hebert William Henrich Association of Fire and Industrial Safety department organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an Outreach activity on “ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AND AWARENESS OF ITS EFFECTS ON HEALTH” at Kariapatti on 14/03/2022. Our Department faculty members Mr. A.Jaiveer Kumar & Mr.V.Dhamotharan along with I & II year students have conducted the activity. Totally 2 faculty members and 9 students participated in the event. They created awareness on effect of alcohol consumption among the Auto mobile drivers and also insisted the people to wear Mask and Helmet while driving. The students also explained that Drinking alcohol is associated with a risk of developing health problems such as mental and behavioral disorders, including alcohol dependence, major non communicable diseases such as liver cirrhosis, some cancers and cardiovascular diseases, as well as injuries resulting from violence and road clashes and collisions.

The aim of this campaign is to emphasize not to consume alcohol while driving and highlight about health issues related to it. The Auto drivers render their Cooperation & the involvement of the faculty and the students were commendable to reach out the maximum number of population in the society. Totally 20 people got benefited through the awareness campaign.

SLCS Samaaj seva – 51st National Safety Day celebration

Herbert William Heinrich Association of Fire and Industrial Safety department celebrated the 51 st National Safety Day on (4.3.22). On behalf of the department, 51 st National Safety badges were distributed to all the students of Fire and Industrial Safety department. Second year students from the departments of Food science, MC&HM, Animation, Viscom, Networking, Computer Science and BBA participated in the program. Second year student Mr.A.Rahul took the pledge on the occasion of the 51 st National Safety Day along with the students and staff members. Mr.T.Vishwa, F&IS II year student gave the welcome address. The Principal, Dr.R.Sujatha, in her presidential address, emphasized that wearing of masks is mandatory during the covid-19 pandemic. Dr.S.Priya, Dean –Academics, gave the felicitation address. Our chief guests were Mr.K.R.Ravichandiran, EHS consultant and Mr.R.Prabhu, Manager- Environment, Safety and Health from TVS Sundram Fasteners. Mr.R.Brameshwaran , gave a brief introduction about the chief guest. The Chief Guest Mr.K.R.Ravichandiran spoke about the history of National Safety Council and the reasons for celebrating National Safety Day. He underscored the theme of the National Safety Day 2022, that is, “Nurture young minds. Develop Safety Culture.” He shared his experience on the behaviour based accidents in Industries.He, finally shared videos of the various types of road accidents. Mr D.Balaji, II year F&IS proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Totally 242 students got benefited through this program.

FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING – AN ADMINISTRATIVE TRAINING PROGRAM

                      Herbert William Henrich Association of Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized “Fire Fighting Training”, as an administrative training program for security officers in our college campus on 22/02/2022. Mr.V.Dhamotharan & Mr.R.Brameshwaran from the Fire & Industrial Safety department demonstrated the classes on fire fighting methods. They clearly explained the pass method of fire extinguishing and security officers had trained individually to put off the fire using fire extinguisher. Totally, 10 securities were benefited through this fire fighting training program.
