ZEAL Association, Department of BBA, conducted a Skill Development Activity for I BBA students on 25.03.2023 at AV Room of Annex Building, RLINS. The program was presided over by Dr. Kumaran Thayumanavan, HoD, Department of BBA. The purpose of this program is to bring out the skills and talents of the students. The students exhibited their skills on Paper Presentation, Business Quiz, Group Songs, and Aptitude Test. The skill development program was supported by I BBA Students. Totally, 53 students of I BBA and four faculty members participated in the program.
PARENTS TEACHERS MEETING
The Parents Teachers Meeting started at 02.30 pm and the following points were discussed:
Dr. Kumaran Thayumanavan, HOD, inaugurated the meeting and Mr. B. Variamuthu, Assistant Professor, welcomed the students and their parents.
Dr. Kumaran Thayumanavan presented the details of various activities conducted by the Department in the past 9 months. Parents appreciated the faculties of the department for their tireless work. The performance of the students in CIA- I along with the percentage of attendance as on February 2023 was informed to the parents. Parents were intimated of the students with poor attendance with a prior warning.
In total, 53 students of I BBA along with their parents and guardians attended the meeting. Some parents requested to send them the information of the college bus departure time delay, while returning from the college. Some parents represented to improve the quality of food in the canteen. Most of the parents requested to change the morning time of the college, as they feel difficulty in preparing food for their wards. Feedbacks were collected from all parents and the meeting came to an end at 04.30 pm.
A five-day Value-Added Course on “Linguaskill Certification – Prelims” (CEFR Level – B1)
In an endeavor to prepare the 1st-year MBA students, numbering 75, into Industry-Ready from communication aspect, RL Institute of Management Studies in association with Voice Training and Research Pvt. Ltd, Madurai conducted a five-day Value-Added Course on “Linguaskill Certification – Preliminary” from 20th to 24th of March 2023 on its campus.
Dr. M. Subramanian, Head of the Department, MBA prefaced his Keynote address emphasizing the maiden endeavor that RLIMS pursues in enabling the students to appear for the Linguaskill Certification. He also reiterated that many organizations require Linguaskill-Qualified candidates.
Mrs. Mouli Devi, Trainer at Voice Training and Research Pvt. Ltd, Madurai walked all the students about the nitty-gritty about the four tenets of the English Language such as “Listening, Speaking, Reding and Writing”. She precisely pointed out that acing this Linguaskill Exam with merit will certainly stand all the students in good stead, not only during their career start but also throughout their career journey.
“This Linguaskill certification is accepted and trusted by thousands of leading employers and organizations worldwide. It is a mark of excellence, opening doors and giving you the skills and confidence to thrive” the trainer said. She also spoke on the examination format and simple strategies that students must employ during the placement preparation period, to pass this examination at ease.
She further added that as many as 146 organizations including Higher Education Institutions in India are accepting this certification. Hence, the demand for BEC-qualified students has progressively increased of late.
The trainer provided the students with ample exercises to prepare them for the exam. She also conducted an assessment on the last day of the training to understand the learning ability of the students.
Webinar-RDBMS and its security privilege
Department of Computer Science(Security System Specialization) organized a session on Webinar-RDBMS and its security privilegeforII B.Sc CS (SSS) on 23/03/2023. Dr. E. Ramanujam, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology Silchar, Assam, India acted as the resource person. ARUL P, II B. Sc CS (SSS), welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. K. Archunan, Vice Principal. The keynote address was given by Mrs. D. Padmapriya, Head of the Department.The chief guest introduction was delivered by Dr.R.Bagavathi Lakshmi, Assistant Professor. The resource person explained the RDBMS and its security privilege.She explained job opportunities in databasedomain by sharing her own experience. Totally 29 studentsparticipated in the event and they made the event interactive and got all the doubts clarified. Finally, vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Divya R, II B.Sc. CS (SSS).
Peer Teaching
Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a peer teaching session for I MCHM students on March 22, 2023. Akash. R, Samuel. M and Subash. G of II MCHM presented the topic “SAVE WATER, SAVE LIFE”. They talked on how water is more essential component to quench thirst or protect health; it is also vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development. The session enabled to learn more on water-related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. At the end of the session, the students took pledge for saving water. This peer teaching session helped the students build their confidence and communication.
Workshop on “CUISINE FRANCHISE”
Francophone Day is celebrated every year on March 20, 2023. In order to celebrate the day, HEN Association of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a one-day workshop on “CUISINE FRANCAISE”. Mr. C. Suresh Kumar, HoD and Mr. P. Anand, Assistant Professor, Department of MC&HM guided students to prepare a French meal as hands-on-practice. A brief presentation for the students on how to get started in the day-to-day operations of a busy restaurant, and basic knowledge of the herbs and various flavors used in French cuisine were explained. They prepared a variety of French dishes such as Nicoise salads, shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, Roasted chicken, beef bourguignon, caramel custard, crepe suzette and onion & mushroom tart. It was a very interesting program that gave students a great learning experience. Totally, 33 students from II MCHM actively participated in this workshop.
Seminar on World Consumer Rights Day
Consumer Awareness Club & Department of BBA participated in a Seminar on “World Consumer Rights Day” on 18.03.2023. The members of Consumer Club and Department of BBA participated in this seminar. Dr. C. Packialakshmi, Founder & Managing Director, Women Consumer Protection Association, Madurai, organized this program. Mr. S.J. Charkravarthy, President, District Consumer Commission, Thiruvarur, and Mrs. M. Murugaselvi, Consumer Protection Officer, Madurai Collectorate, acted as thechair persons. They briefed on 8 rights of the consumer as given below;
- Right to safety
- Right to basic needs
- Right to choose
- Right to information
- Right to representation
- Right to seek redresal,
- Right to healthy environment and
- Right to consumer education.
They explained the procedures to approach Consumer Redresal Forum for consumer exploitation. This program was coordinated by Dr. B. Meenakshi Sundaram, Consumer Club Coordinator. In total, 3 members of consumer Club and 16 students of I BBA and 9 Students of II BBA eagerly participated in the activity.
Workshop on ‘Soft skills Development’
Department of Commerce (B&I) organized a workshop on ‘Soft skills Development’ on March15, 2023 by RAYA associates & Business Advisor’s team for I year students. The Workshop covered the areas like communication skills, professional etiquette, time management, goal setting, leadership and teamwork. Students are trained through mock interviews and group discussion, which helped them develop confidence and improve their communication skills in English. They insisted on the importance of etiquette and grooming as two important aspects of personality. Trainers conducted practical exercises for the students in developing leadership, team building, assertiveness, self confidence, active listening etc., Students interacted well with the RAYA Associates & Business Advisor’s team. They enjoyed the session well. Totally 81 students from I B.Com (Banking and Insurance) got benefitted from this workshop.
Fruit Art and Vegetable Sculpture Workshop
Mr. K Saththivel (22127), Mr. S Vishal S (22133) from I year and II year students, Mr. K B Karthick Babu (21124), and Mr. A Kasi Natan (21125) of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management actively participated in the “Fruit Art and Vegetable carving Workshop” conducted by the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, on 11.03.2023. They also gave hands-on-practice for the student to carve 4 and 5 petal flowers in radish, carrot, cucumber, beet root, and watermelon face arts. They also made vegetables and flower carved bouquet arrangements for reception hall. This workshop gave a lot of memorable experience, motivation and encouragement to the students.
Field Trip-Keezhadi Museum, Sivaganga District
On 11.03.2023, Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management went on a field trip to the Keezhadi Museum, Sivaganga District with the I and II year students (57 students). The students became aware of the museum as a testimony to the regional life lived by ancient Tamils during the Sangam Age. The excavations underscored the fact that an urban civilization existed in Tamil Nadu since the Sangam Age, contemporaneous with the urban life recorded in the Gangetic Plains. The students visited six galleries titled ‘Maduraiyum Keezhadiyum’, ‘Agriculture and Water Management’, ‘Kalam Seikho’, ‘Aadayum Anikalankalum’, ‘Maritime Trade,” and ‘Vaazhviyal.” They explored the history and richness of the artifacts exhibited. The museum is equipped with a touch-screen display for the visitors to get a glimpse of artifacts regarding the Vaigai Valley Civilization. The museum also displayed a replica of a cargo ship recalling the ‘Sangam Era’ of maritime trade. Earthenware and pottery were also exhibited in various dimensions. Adding to this, ancient coins that were unearthed were also displayed. The students enjoyed and understood the great pride in the ancient Tamil Civilization.
