Seminar on “Introduction to Choice Based Credit System”

The college IQAC Cell organized a Seminar on Introduction to  Choice Based Credit System on 16.4.2019.Dr. S. THEENATHAYALAN, Associate Professor & Head Department of Economics, The Madura College was invited as the resource person for the seminar. Principal of SLCS, Dr. B. Ramamoorthy delivered the Presidential Address. The resource person Dr. S. Theenathayalan delivered an eloquent and comprehensive lecture on the meaning and objective of a credit system to be followed by institutions which go for NAAC Accreditation. The chief guest added that the CBCS system is essential to provide holistic education to students.  The flexibility multiple pathways, vertical mobility of  CBCS system was conversed. The interactive session also focused on UGC Guidelines on adoption of Choice Based Credit System.Faculty members of SLCS & RLIMS attended the seminar.

25th Annual Day

The 25th Annual Day of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science & RL Institute of Management Studies was celebrated on 9th February 2019 at the College premises in a grand manner.

The President of the college, Dr.R.Lakshmipathy presided over the function. CA.S.Santhanakrishnan, Founder Partner, PKF Sridhar & Santhanam LLP, Chennai was the Chief Guest. Dr. R.L.Ramasubbu, Secretary and Mr.R.Ramkumar, Management Executive, were felicitated the programme.

Dr.P.Saravanan, Principal, SLCS presented the Annual report of the college for the Academic Year 2018- 19 and Dr.S.Pugalanthi, Deputy Director RLIMS presented the annual report of RLIMS for the year 2018-19.

The Prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest to the students for Proficiency in Academics, Best Outgoing students, Academic Achievers and for the winners of various competitions.

Safety Awareness Workshop

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety has organized a one day Safety awareness workshop for the students of Fire & Industrial Safety. Mr.Arun mozhi varman Director of Prevention Pro India Limited was called as Resource person for the programme. He clearly explained about the Hazards in various Industries and their prevention techniques. He also gave useful tips for the Final year students for their career and Higher education. At the end of the programme an interactive session was arranged for the students to clear their doubts regarding future of safety course and the job opportunities. The students of F&IS felt very happy for arranging a useful seminar cum workshop which made them to build the confidence.

IPR Cell Inauguration

Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted a one day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights.The IPR cell for SLCS was inaugurated on 5th January 2019 at 9:30 am by Dr.M.Kantha Babu-Director ,Centre for Intellectual Property Rights,l,Anna University Chennai.College Principal -Dr.P.Saravanan introduced the chief guest,Ms.V.Padmavathy –Head of Department Commerce welcomed the gathered .Vice Principal- Dr.K.Archunan,IQAC Advisor R.L.Ramnath and Faculty of SLCS participated in the workshop .The chief guest handled an interactive session ,briefing  SLCS faculty about IPR cell. The interaction was followed by a practical session. The interesting and intellectual session came to a close by 4:30 pm.

24th SPORTS DAY

The 24th Sports Day of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science and RL Institute of Management studies was held on Friday, Jan 04, 2019. Dr.P.Saravanan, Principal , SLCS,  Presided the event. Mr.M.Ragavan, FIVB “Level 1” Coach, Assistant Manager, Indian Bank, Madurai delivered the Chief Guest Address. Various team events such as March past, Yoga, Pyramid formation, Umbrella dance, Pom Pom dance, Zumba dance, Silambattam, etc were performed by the students. The chief guest, in his speech insisted the students to live healthy life by avoiding junk foods and playing mobile games. He also suggested the students to play in the ground to develop the physical health. He appreciated the students’ performance and distributed the Prizes for the winners of Athletic and Team events. Physical Director Mr. P.Thangamuthu read out the Annual Sports report. The Challengers team won the overall championship in the intramural sports meet.

Outcome Based Education

A one day workshop on Outcome Based Education for the faculty members of  Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of science and R. L. Institute of Management Studies was conducted on 17th November 2018.The workshop began by 10.00 am and  Dr.M.G.Sethuraman, Professor of Chemistry, The Gandhigram Rural Deemed University, Gandhigram  was the chief guest for the meeting. More than 60 faculty members attended the meeting.

Principal, Dr.P.Saravanan welcomed the chief guest and the gathering for the workshop. The Honorable President of the college Dr.R.Lakshmipathy said that he also hailed from a chemistry background and was happy to invite Dr.M.G.Sethuraman as the chief guest for the workshop. He extended a word of honour and welcomed the chief guest to instigate the workshop.

Dr.M.G.Sethuraman started his presentation by congratulating the management and faculty for the NAAC, B+ Grade acquired. The work shop was initiated by Dr.M.G.Sethuraman briefing about Curricular Design and Outcome Based Education. Grand Goals of Education, NAAC’s metrics on outcomes, Cos’ consistency with Pos’ & PSOs’ and the Rubrics for performance indicators were the main areas of discussion.

Faculty of CS, BCOM, BBA, Viscom, MBA, Food Science, MCHM and English actively participated in the session by presenting the Course Outcome for one of their courses. It came to an end by the faculty being able to formulate CO’s, PO’s and PSO’S for their respective departments. The Management Executive Shri.R.Ramkumar and the Vice Principal Dr.K.Archunan actively participated in the Workshop. The workshop wound up by 3.30 with Dr.Navarathinam, Associate Professor of MBA presenting a feedback. She said that, the workshop was very useful and all doubts were cleared regarding OBE. NAAC adviser, Dr.R.L.Ramnath delivered the vote thanks.

One day Work-shop on GST

As part of academic enhancement, First and second year students were participated in one day work shop on GST, in The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for women, Sivakasi, , in that 2 students were participated in debate on GST, 6 students were participated in Skit on GST and 3 students were presented their paper on impact of GST, totally 11 students were participated and get their participation certificate.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “PARLE G BISCUIT FACTORY”

An industrial visit to Parle G Biscuit factory was organized for students of BBA on 14.08.2018. The staffs were kind enough to make a presentation about the factory followed by a visit to witness their manufacturing process. The students understood the production & marketing processes involved in a leading biscuit factory. The students had a great learning experience.

WOMEN COUNSELLING PROGRAM

The Women Counselling Committee of SLCS & RLIMS conducted Women Counselling Program for first year girl students and all the women members on 25.7.2018 at 12.30 p.m. The Women Counselling Cell Co-ordinators Dr. K. Navarathinam & Mrs. G.S.Subbulakshmi ,addressed the students about the importance of Women Counselling Cell and it helps to provide individual and/or group counseling for girls who have experienced abuse, violence, women’s issues, etc,.

We have assigned the Members of faculty for the Counselling Cell. Each women faculty is responsible for various department girl students. We introduced the women counselor for department wise. The Discussions have been recorded and follow up action taken.

“Aviation Management” – Guest Lecture

A guest lecture on “Scope & Opportunities on Aviation Management” was conducted for the students on 18.06.2018. The students had a great learning experience. Ms.Daphne Rodrigo, Manager – Training, Regional Center for Training & Development, Madurai was the resource person. The session was very informative and interesting. Totally 58 students got benefited through this program.
