WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CELL

Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organized an Awareness program on “Legislation on Violence against Women” on 07.02.2020 at the newly refurbished auditorium, between 3.30PM and 5.50PM. All the students of the college participated in the programme. Ms.Geetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil welcomed the gathering. Dr. S. Priya, Dean-Academics felicitated the event. Dr. M. Tharani, Coordinator-WEC introduced the Chief Guest.  The guest of honour, Mrs. S. Sornalatha, MA, ML, a leading lawyer with 25 years of practice, started her speech by pointing out the difference between ‘mistake’ and ‘crime’.  She shared her real time experience wherein she has come across legal cases, where the youth are both victims and committers of crime. She emphasized that using android mobiles is like being inside the “big boss” house. She advised students not to have chats or share personal photos with unknown contacts. Students interacted with the guest of honour and clarified their doubts relating to POCSO Act, 2012 and its amendments. Ms.Poornima Devi, I year B.Sc(FS&PM) proposed the vote of thanks and the programme ended with the National Anthem.

25th Sports Day

The 25th Sports Day of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science was conducted on 01.02.2020. Dr.P.V.Shelvam , Professor & Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, Annamalai University   was the Chief Guest . The Program started with the Flag hoisting . Our National Flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest , followed by the Olympic Flag and College Flag hoisted by Dr.S.Priya , Dean – Academics and Principal Dr.B.Ramamoorthy,  respectively. Dr.R.L.Ramnath , NAAC – Advisor  and all the  Faculty members of SLCS participated.

The students of SLCS and RLIMS performed many sport events such as Pyramid, Yoga, Umbrella Dance, etc. They also exposed their talent in traditional games such as Pambaram, Kolli Kundu, Pacha Kuthirai etc which strengthen the mind and body.

Mr.P.Thangamuthu , Physical Director read out  the Annual Sports report. The Principal of the College, Dr.B.Ramamoorthy, in his presidential address highlighted the importance of sports and physical activities. Dr.S.Priya, Dean – Academics delivered the felicitation address. Dr.P.V.Shelvam, in his special address urged the students to concentrate both in studies and in sports and also explained the job opportunities available through Sports Quota in Government. Prizes were distributed by the chief guest. The Sparklers team of SLCS won the Overall winner shield. The Program ended with National Anthem.

“Finer Arts in Garde Manger” Workshop

The South Indian Chef Association organized a National workshop on “Finer Arts in Garde Manger” for two days (30.1.2020 & 31.1.2020) at Oriental College of Hotel Management and Culinary Arts, Vythiri,Wayand,Kerala. Second year students, Mr.NaneenBalaji.S, Mr.Hariharan.K, Mr.Gogula Krishnan.R and faculty, Mr.E.Jacob Jebarai participated in the workshop. Chef Mark Crocker was invited as the chief guest, who not only spoke about the topic but also advised the students. Students made the event excellent by show casing their outstanding talent.  This workshop gave a lot of motivation and encouragement to the students, who had a memorable experience.

Best Practices

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an “Eco Friendly” Programme for the first year students at  Alagar Kovil reserve forest on 28.1.2020. Faculty members, Mrs. G.S.Subbulakshmi , Mr.Anand and Mr.Ramesh and students actively participated in the programme.

Important natural resources are utilized to the maximum by humans hence we should take care of our ecology. We destroy nature every day and this tendency must be stopped. There are several steps that have been initiated to rescue nature. The department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management develops eco-friendly ideas for other department students as well, so as to engage them in being “green”. The Faculty may also find this information useful and implement ideas such as Use Less Paper and Recycle More, Use Canvas Bags instead of Plastic.  The programme was a great success with the staff and Management appreciating the endeavor.

Off-Campus Placement drive

Kotak Life Insurance conducted a Placement drive at Thiyagaraja Arts and Science College, Madurai. 16 students from III B.Com (B&I) of our College participated in the drive. The selection process started with an on-line aptitude test, followed by a Group discussion and Personal interview. One student Mr.K.S.Karthich (17447) was selected and received his offer letter.

National Youth Day Celebration

Department of Commerce celebrated National Youth Day (12.01.2020) on 13.01.2020. The program started with a prayer song, Mrs.V.Padmavathy, Head, Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering. Dr.B.Ramamurthy, the Principal gave an elaborative speech on the principles and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda. He also explained the reason for celebrating Swami Vivekananda’s birthday as National Youth Day. Dr.R.L.Ramnath, the NAAC advisor insisted that students must try to follow the principles of Swami Vivekananda. Dr.S.Priya, Academic Dean, explained some of the quotes of Swami Vivekananda. A few students of B.Com (B&I) gave speeches about Swami Vivekananda and his principles. The program ended with the  National Anthem.

Alumni Interaction

A prominent Alumna  of Computer Science Department, Ms.R.Shruthi Lakshmi (Batch: 2014 – 2017), Programmer, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Chennai interacted with the   I year CS (SSS) students on 09.01.2020. She explained the Job opportunities available at TCS and the latest technologies implemented in MNCs.

It was an eye opening session for the students. Many upcoming Technologies and its applications were discussed. Ms.R.Shruthi Lakshmi spoke of the importance of Value Added Courses and advised the students to take up Online Courses in UiPath Academy. She also urged them to update their knowledge with Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). She highlighted the job opportunities available and the demand for such domain experts in the near future.

22nd Graduation Day

Subbalakshmi  Lakshmipathi College of Science  and  R L Institute of Management Studies, Madurai organized its 22nd Graduation Day on 28th July 2019. Dr.B.Ramamoorthy, Principal welcomed the gathering. Mr.Lakshmi Narayanan, Emeritus Vice Chairman, Cognizant was the Chief Guest. In his speech, he mentioned that the job oriented courses offered by the college would immediately provide job to the students. He emphasized the students that curiosity towards education leads to success. Each and every Graduates should be disciplined which helps them to build their career and to create their talents.

Dr.R.Lakshmipathy, President of the college insisted the motto of the College ‘Learning for Better Living’. He reinforced that an Employer looks beyond the Degree Certificate that an Employee holds. He urged the Graduates to learn as much as language he could learn.

Orientation Program 2019

SLCS conducted an Orientation Programme for the First Year Students of UG and PG on 01.07.2019. The Programme commenced with the lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by the parents at 10.30am in NS hall of SLCS. The Presidential Address was delivered by the Principal, Dr.B.Ramamoorthy and the Felicitation Address was given by IQAC Advisor, Dr.R.L.Ramnath. The Heads of the Departments briefed the aim and objective of the respective departments and introduced their faculty members. College rules, Exam rules, Hostel rules and Library rules were also elaborated to the parents and the students. The working of Women Empowerment Cell and Women Welfare Committee were also highlighted. A word on grooming, notice board usage, and importance of discipline were stressed by the Heads of the Departments.

Number of Value added courses provided by each department and placement opportunities were highlighted. In addition to that Driving and Passport availing facility were also briefed to parents. Welcome address and vote of thanks were delivered by senior faculty of the college.

Seminar on “Syllabus Framing and Outcome Based Education ”

A one day seminar on Syllabus Framing and Outcome Based Education was organized by IQAC of SLCS and RLIMS on 23 rd April 2019, Tuesday.

Dr.V.K.Sivasubrsmanian Professor & Head Department of Chemistry K.L.N.College of Engineering &Technology in company with Prof.M.Murugeshwari, Department of ECE, K.L.N.College of Engineering &Technology along with  Dr. S. Theenathayalan, Associate Professor & Head Department of Economics, The Madura College were the resource persons for the seminar

Dr.R.L.Ramnath Advisor IQAC, gave a brief introduction about the seminar.Dr. B. Ramamoorthy, Principal, SLCS delivered the presidential address.The guest speakers Dr.V.K.Sivasubrsmanian Professor & Head Department of Chemistry K.L.N.College of Engineering &Technology outlined the need for Outcome Based Education and said that OBE stresses the learning process and  that  the Curriculum is designed in terms of the knowledge, skill and attitudes expected from graduates and aims to equip students for lifelong learning.

Prof.M.Murugeshwari, highlighted the key constituents of Outcome based Education, and brought out the relation between Programme Education Objectives ( assessed few years after graduation), Programme Outcomes (upon graduation) and Course Outcomes( upon course completion). CO Assessment tools for each course, PO Assessment tools for each course, Assessment of the attainment of PEOs, Assessment of the attainment of POs were detailed in the seminar. The speakers spoke about Blooms Taxonomy and they related it to OBE.

Dr. S. Theenathayalan, Associate Professor focused on Student Centric Approach in curricular design. He briefed how to evolve at a new technology to face opportunities and challenges in curricular design. Advantage, benefits, constraints and disadvantage of curricular updating were discussed in detail. The seminar was integrative and informative .Faculty of SLCS &RLIMS attended the seminar. The seminar was fruitfully sought after by the faculty of SLCS and RLIMS.
