The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has conducted Second Board of Studies meeting held on 17.12.2018 at 10.00 a.m. in Training Restaurant. Prof. R. Panneer Selvam, Associate Professor, was acted as an University Nominee, & Dr. R. Kannan, Professor & Research Guide, Centre for Tourism and Hotel Management, Madurai Kamaraj University was represented as a Subject Expert, Head of the Department Mr. C. Sureshkumar was represented as a Chairperson, Department Faculties, M.SasiKumar Alumni, Parent and Student representative has participated as a members in the Board of Studies Meeting.
Alumni Interaction
Mr.SASI KUMAR Alumni of MC&HM dept (2014-17 batch) has been interacted with our present first year students on 07.12.2018. He is working in fleet management, shipping company as a chief cook for past one year and he has given career counseling and he shared his experience in the field of shipping industry to the first student.
He had privileged to assist each & every student becoming as a chef for fleet management company and also he has delivered the duties and responsibility has in the ship. Document required joining in the ship and safety awareness to the students
State level Workshop
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management students has participated the one day state level work shop cum demonstration program on focusing of innovative ‘’Powder Cream Icing Techonolgy’’organized by Karaikudi Bakery owners Association on 04.12.2018 at Courtallam.
There are 65 second year students and 6 faculty members was participated in the work shop and the Chief Guest Chef kaaleeshwaran has demonstrated to the students /Bakers/Chefs/Entrepreneurs in Art Craft Skills under Technology up Gradation program of KBOA’’ Supported by Desotta School of Baking ,Karaikudi.
The workshop cum demonstration also contains modern icing craft skills, theoretical instruction, and practical oriented general manufacturing practices as per updated trends of bakery industries.
Extension Activity
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management have organized an extension activity in Avaniyapuram rural village people on 22/11/2018. Our Department faculty members (Mrs G.S. Subbalakshmi, Mr Perumalkannan, Mr.P. Anand ) have delivered the speech and create awareness in the community about food habits and food hygiene in their day- to -day life.
We have planned the program in terms of the strategies they wanted to adopt and to create awareness on the day – to – day issues related to health and hygiene and facing challenges on their food habits within the community. 25 peoples have participated and got benefitted in this program. We spoke to the Avaniyapuram Rural Village people and received a very positive feedback. Our campaign was successful in creating awareness on the food habits and hygiene.

Article Writing
MUSE INDIA is a UGC Approved Journal and is a literary e journal.
Our MC &HM Department Student Mr. Gogulakrishnan, I year was written an article and uploaded in MUSE INDIA on the heading “Learning a (English) Language is Fun” on 22.11.2018.
Orientation Programme
The Department of MC&HM organized Orientation Programme for I & II year students on. 08.11.2018. This was held in Training Restaurant at 8.30 a.m. in our college. Totally 151 students participated in this programme. Mrs. G.S.Subbulakshmi , Asst Professor gave welcome speech , Introduction of New Staff prepared by Mr. Anand, Asst Professor. Orientation programs facilitate the transition and integration of students into the college learning environment. Mr.C.Sureshkumar, HOD elucidated the I year and II year students in relation to Personal Grooming, Regular wearing of Identity Card, Discipline in the class and college premises, course curriculum – syllabus, Time table, rules and regulation of Hostel and College, Special classes for the arrear students, the significance of each subjects (Theory and Practical), Scheme of Examination, Regular class test, Regular submission of Practical Observation Note, Record note submission, Assignments, Attendance, Extracurricular activities, Physical education, Swimming Mr. Gangadharan, Asst Professor delivered Vote of Thanks. The program ends at 10.00 a.m.

Dept of MC&HM has conducted course committee meeting on 17.10.2018 at 10.00 a.m. for the students of I year, II Year and III year especially for Advanced Learners & Slow learners.

1.Students Academic Achievements:
While discussing the Academic Achievements, the students of third year explained that they were satisfied with the practicals and theory. Staff members were illustrated clearly and have given important questions to study to score good marks.
A remedial class was organized for the slow learners in Food Safety & Nutrition subjects and important questions with answers have given and to secure good marks.
- The student members were satisfied with the current syllabus.
- They were comfortable with the present teaching methodology.
- Planned to conduct more Department activity in the next semester and also for conducting value added courses.
- Internship : All 53 students have got selected in various star hotels in and around India. Student members were stated, they were very much satisfied in internship.
- Placement: Planning to get place more students in Fleet Management, Mumbai. Planning for Placement Campus Drive in the month of March 2019 last week.

French Cuisine
Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management have organized French cuisine workshop for Lady Doak College (French department) – Madurai on 04.10.2017 at 9.30 a.m. Around 66 students & 2 faculty members from department of French have participated in the workshop. We have invited Chef . Nethaji Dasarathan , Food and beverage Director , Royal Caribbean Curise Lines , USA . Dr.P. Saravanan, Principal, SLCS. Mr. C.Sureshkumar, Head of the department gave the welcome address. The chief guest and inaugurated the function. Chef. Nethaji Dasarathan describes the origin of the French cuisine and its importance. Chief Guest demonstrated four delicious dishes and the student participants also actively participated in preparation work and they prepared two dishes to share with us. The day was wonderful for them and they gained good knowledge and got benefitted and we provided participants certificates for them and the workshop session was completed at 3.00 p.m.
WORLD TOURISM DAY 2018 – SEMINAR
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has organized a seminar on world tourism and its digital transformation conducted on 27/09/2018 in the seminar Hall.
The outcomes of this seminar is a unique opportunity to raise awareness among the students on the potential contribution of digital technologies to sustainable tourism developments while providing a platform for investment , partnership towards a more responsibility and inclusive tourism technologies.
