The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “FINANCIAL OPERATING STATEMENTS” from 11.04.2022 to 21.04.2022 at Hall No. 115, SLCS Annexure Block. The course was resourced by Mr. Nishant katoch, ISDC, Bangalore. A lecture was delivered on an operating statement which is used to assess a company’s performance and financial position. He also explained financial statement, balance sheets and cash flow statements. Operating statements summarize a company’s revenues and expenses for a given accounting period. All II Year ACCA students (13 students) participated in this course.
PLACEMENT RECORD APRIL, 2022.
The students of Commerce (Hons) ACCA Mr. Vishveshwaran B M and Mr. Landa Abishek have successfully cleared the City Union Bank campus drive on 20.04.2022 for the post of Banking Manager. The City Union Bank campus drive was scheduled in our college premises on 19/04/2022 and 20/04/2022. Around 150 Students from various streams like MBA, BCom (B&I), BBA and B.Com., (Hons) had attended the campus drive. Among our B.Com. (Hons) ACCA students, Mr. Vishveshwaran B M and Mr. Landa Abishek were shortlisted for this post after successfully completing all the four stages of campus drive process i.e., Aptitude Test, Descriptive Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Both of them got job offer with the salary of Rs. 3, 90,000 per annum.
Educational Tour at Munnar and Kochin
The Department of Commerce (Hons) ACCA organized a study tour to Kerala from 7.04.2022 to 09.04.2022. 43 students and 3 faculty members participated in the tour. The first part of the tour was a visit to the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Pvt. Ltd., Mattupetty dam, Kundala dam and Eco point which are the most famous tourism destinations in Munnar. We had various fun & adventure activities such as horse riding, boat riding, shooting etc., Later, the tour group visited the Kanan Devan Tea factory. The students got an opportunity to observe the processing of tea leaves and they were explained about the history of tea plantation in the world, first tea plantation in India, importance of tea in our daily life, benefits of green tea, right procedure for preparing tea and its production process etc. Next day, the group travelled to Wonderla. The students enjoyed water slides, Dry rides, Games, Rain dance etc. Wonderla is very famous for India’s largest and tallest Ferris wheel- The Sky Wheel in its park. The tour concluded with the Kochin DJ Boating. The tour was an enriching and memorable experience for both the students and teachers alike.
Industrial Visit at Idhayam Oil Factory, Villipathiri, Virudhunagar
The Department of Commerce (Hons) ACCA students and teachers visited the Idhayam Oil Factory, Villipathiri, Virudhunagar on 25.03.2022. The visit was an experiential learning and helped us to understand the production process of oil. The IDHAYAM is the fastest-growing cooking oil brand in India and a pioneer in producing healthy cooking oils for over 8 decades. The students learnt the process involved in the oil extraction and also had an idea about the By-products and the waste product, which after further processing have got a great commercial value, revenue and workers unit. 43 students from I, II and III year ACCA participated in the Industrial visit.
NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON“NEW TRANSFORMATION IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION”
The Department of Commerce (HONOURS & ACCA) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted a National level workshop on “NEW TRANSFORMATION IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION” on the eve of celebrating Indian Accounting Association Foundation Day on 15.03.2022 (Tuesday). The workshop was started with the welcome address given by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head of the Department, Commerce (ACCA) and the Presidential address was given by the Principal Dr. R. Sujatha.
Dr.A.Mayil Murugan, Professor of The Madhura College, Dr.Rosy Godwin, Professor of Lady Doak College and Dr.Harjit Singh, Professor of The Amity University were the key speakers of the program. They shared information on recent trends and transformation in Accounting Practice. They also shared information on market expectation from the current accounting graduates.
Totally, 248 students and 12 Faculty members from SLCS and other colleges participated and got benefited by this workshop. The resource person cited some real life examples of various skills related to new transformation in accounting education. Students were given ample opportunities to exhibit their accounting skills. The programme was ended with Vote of thanks given by Mr. S. Ravi Shankar, Head of Department, Commerce Honours.
Professional Development Program on “Ethical issues in Accounting”
The Department of Commerce (Honours & ACCA) organized a Professional Development Program on “Ethical issues in Accounting” on 15.03.2022 at our Auditorium of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai. The program commenced with a prayer song. The felicitation address was given by our respected Principal, Dr. R.Sujatha. The key note address was delivered by our respected Vice Principal Dr. K.Archunan. The special address was given by our respected Dean Academics, Dr. S.Priya. The Resource Persons of the program was Dr. A.Mayil Murugan, Professor of The Madura College and Dr. Rosy Godwin, Professor of Lady Doak College. They shared their experience to the faculty members and pointed out that ethical improprieties by accountants will be ‘detrimental to society, resulting in distrust by the public and dysfunctions in the economy’. Plus, due to globalisation, the ethical practices of accounting professionals can have worldwide implications. 10 teaching faculty members participated and got benefitted by attending this program.
Service to Kuruvithurai Perumal Temple” – Cholavanthan, Madurai
The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Outreach program Activity at “Kuruvithurai Perumal Temple” – Cholavanthan, Madurai under “SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA” on 16.02.2022. We were extended warm greetings for the contribution of our all ACCA Students to the “Sri Chitraradha Vallaba Perumal Temple”, Kuruvithurai. The coordinator Mr. Nagarajan of kuruvithurai temple took the initiative and assigned them with task. Our ACCA students cleaned and did the chores of the work within the temple and created awareness regarding covid-19 to the visitors of the temple. All the students were doing their assigned work fervently. Guru Bhagwan-Jupiter constructed a place for his son on Vaigai River and performed penance on Lord Narayana. Hence, the place is called Guruvithurai-Kuruvithurai. Lord Narayana, pleased with his penance appeared before Guru on a Rath of aesthetic beauty and rescued his son Kasa. Hence, the lord is known as Chithiraradha Perumal – Perumal with a Rath of aesthetic beauty. The students were happy to spend that day at the temple. Though the time spent in the temple was just a few hours, however, they experienced peace of mind and spiritual awakening. The temple authorities expressed gratitude to college management for taking the initiative and helping the students in keeping the temple clean. 50 students of I, II and III year ACCA visited and rendered service in the temple precincts’.
“Service to Gandhi Memorial Museum”, Madurai
The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Outreach program Activity at “Gandhi Memorial Museum”, Madurai under “SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA” on 14.02.2022. We were extended warm greetings by the members of National Museum. The coordinator of the Gandhi museum Mr. Nanda Rao took the charge and the assigned some tasks. The students were divided into a team. Some of them were asked to write the certificates, the others were told to arrange the books, newspapers and clean the library area and the rest were told to count the sculptures. Everyone was doing their work enthusiastically and had completed the task by 12.50pm. The coordinator briefed the history of Gandhi museum. The exhibits & artifacts are on Gandhi & India’s independent movement, with many photos depicting his life. At the end of the session they took some photos.
The incharge of the museum was overwhelmed by our presence and our service. They were happy to spend that day in the museum. Though the time spent with them was just a few hours, however, it taught us the lesson for a lifetime. At, last Mr. A.Raja, Assistant Professor thanked the Museum Coordinator and in charges for having given the wonderful opportunity to visit the museum. 50 students of I, II and III year ACCA visited and served them.
Service to Old Age Home”, Rojavanam Madurai
The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Outreach program Activity at “Rojavanam Old Age Home”, Uthangudi, Madurai under “SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA” on 09.02.2022. We were extended warm greetings. We were able to provide some grains and grocery items to the inmates of old age home. We observed that there were two types of people, one who were abandoned and the others were suffering from some sort of disabilities. No matter what the cause was, what made us to think most was their age. They were longing for love and affection. The old age people were very compassionate and friendly. They were happy throughout the day with their beautiful smiles and didn’t reflect their problems even for a second. To break their monotony, our students rendered very good service. Later our Students addressed the inmates as “Thaatha/Paati”, and had a long happy conversations with them. The day turned out to be fruitful with real enjoyment. The head of the home was overwhelmed by our presence and our small contribution. They were happy to spend that day with us. Though the time spent with them was just a few hours, however, it taught us the lesson for a lifetime. 13 students of our I, II and III year ACCA visited and served them.
VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “MONEY MANAGEMENT SERVICES”
The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “MONEY MANAGEMENT SERVICES” from 03.01.2022 to 07.02.2022 through online. The course was resourced by Mr. Utkarsh Upadhyay, ISDC, Bangalore. A lecture was delivered on the role and importance of the finance function, basic finance management knowledge and effectively using standard business terminology. All the III Year ACCA students (15 students) participated in this course.
