TRADE CLUB Trade Club Inauguration (2026–27) on 11.07.2026

As part of the departmental initiative to promote commerce awareness and student engagement, the Department of Commerce (Honours & ACCA) inaugurated the Trade Club on 11.07.2026 at S1 and S2 Halls, Subbalakshmi Block. The programme aimed to introduce the objectives and activities of the Trade Club and encourage students to actively participate in its
future initiatives. The faculty members welcomed the students and highlighted the importance of trade and commerce in developing practical knowledge, analytical skills, and professional competence. To make the session interactive, a scrambled commerce words activity was conducted. Students were divided into teams and asked to rearrange scrambled letters into
meaningful commerce-related terms such as Trade, Market, Profit, Cost, Bank, and Money. After each correct answer, a brief explanation of the respective commerce concept was provided, enabling students from different academic backgrounds to understand basic trade-related terminology in an engaging manner. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, with
students actively collaborating and enjoying the activity. It successfully created awareness about the fundamentals of commerce while promoting teamwork, interaction, and communication skills. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by the faculty coordinator, who appreciated the students active participation and encouraged them to take part in the upcoming Trade Club
activities.

ROYAL CHARTER ASSOCIATION Alumni Interaction Program

As part of the academic and career development initiatives of the Department of Commerce (Honours) – ACCA, an Alumni Interaction Program was organized on 30.06.2026 at Pallava Hall for the I Year and III Year Students. The programme aimed to provide students with valuable guidance on the ACCA qualification, examination preparation, and career opportunities through interaction with an alumnus of the department.

The session began with a warm welcome and introduction of the guest speaker, ACCA Mr. S. Vignesh, ACCA Affiliate, an esteemed alumnus of the 2022–2025 batch. During the program, he shared his academic journey and experiences in pursuing ACCA, and explained the various opportunities available through the ACCA qualification in the fields of accounting, finance,
auditing, and taxation.

As part of the session, Mr. S. Vignesh presented a PowerPoint presentation and explained the important aspects of the ACCA platform, examination structure, and preparation strategies. He shared several key points to help students clear the ACCA examinations successfully, including the importance of conceptual understanding, regular practice, time management, revision
techniques, and the effective use of study resources. He also encouraged students to stay focused, disciplined, and consistent in their preparation.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and clarifying their doubts regarding ACCA papers, study methods, and career prospects. A total of 70 students and 2 faculty members attended the programme. Overall, the programme was informative, motivating, and beneficial, as it gave students a clear understanding of the ACCA journey and
inspired them to prepare confidently for their professional future.

CA NEXUS ASSOCIATION

Alumni Interaction Session (2026–27) on 30.06.2026

As part of the academic and career awareness initiatives, the Department of Commerce (Honours) organized an Alumni Interaction Session for the first and third year students by the CA Nexus Association to provide insights into career opportunities in the commerce and banking sectors. The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. D. Selvaraj, Head of the Department, who introduced the guest speaker, Mr. K. Raghubarathi, Branch Manager, Equitas Bank, Pudur Branch, Madurai, and an esteemed alumnus of the 2018–2021 batch. During the session, the alumnus shared his inspiring journey from being a student of the department to becoming a successful banking professional. He highlighted the vast career opportunities available in the banking and financial services sector and explained the diverse career options that Commerce graduates can pursue.

He also guided students on effective preparation strategies for banking recruitment examinations and emphasized the importance of developing communication skills, aptitude, time management, and a habit of continuous learning. Furthermore, he encouraged students to make the best use of their college life by actively participating in academic and co-curricular activities, acquiring industry-relevant skills, and preparing themselves for future career opportunities. The session was highly interactive, with first-year students actively raising questions related to banking careers, competitive examinations, and higher education. Mr. K. Raghubarathi addressed their queries with practical insights and motivated them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to achieving their professional goals. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the faculty coordinator, expressing gratitude to the alumnus for sharing his valuable experiences and inspiring the students. Around 90 students participated in the session, making it an informative, engaging, and motivating learning experience that significantly contributed to the department's student development initiatives.

Department of B.Com. (Honours) Memorandum of Understanding Signed at SLCS College

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the B.Com (Honours) Department of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathi College of Science and S.N. Auditor Associates, Chennai, to provide coaching for CA Foundation and Intermediate courses.

The event was attended by College Secretary Dr. Ramasubbu, S.N. Auditors Associates Executive CA Nagaraju, Vice Principal Gurubaskar, Dean Priya, College and Head of the Department Selvaraj.

Under this agreement, students will receive structured training for the CA Foundation and Intermediate examinations. Regular model tests will also be conducted alongside full-time classes to help students successfully clear the Chartered Accountant examinations.

Career Training Program on SAP FICO on 08.12.2025

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA conducted a “Career Training Program on 08.12.2025 at Hall No. 116 of SLCS Annexure block for the ACCA Third and Second year students.The Department organized a Guest Lecture in collaboration with G-TEC Computer Education, Madurai. The session was conducted by Mrs. B. Ramya, Center Manager, G-TEC Computer Education, who served as the Chief Guest for the program. The primary objective of the lecture was to provide students with an overview of the career opportunities available through SAP courses in the industry. She delivered an in-depth presentation on the course structure and its industrial applications. She explained key concepts with practical illustrations, including a real-time example of purchase procurement using SAP. Furthermore, she elaborated on the role of SAP FICO in multinational companies, detailing the functions and responsibilities of employees engaged in this domain. She also highlighted the significance of certificate credits and emphasized the relevance of skill-based certification programs that are currently in demand for enhancing employability and industry placements. The session was highly informative and provided valuable insights into the applications and career prospects associated with SAP and other certification courses. In total 36 students actively participated in the program and benefitted from the knowledge shared.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT DATTATREYA TEXTILES PVT. LTD.,

The Department of Commerce (Honours–ACCA) organized an Industrial Visit to Dattatreya Textiles Pvt. Ltd., Madurai, on 12th March 2026 for I Year B.Com (Honours–ACCA) students. A total of 24 students, along with faculty members, participated with the objective of gaining practical exposure to industrial operations and textile manufacturing processes.

During the visit, students were introduced to various stages of yarn production, including raw material handling, processing, and finishing. They observed advanced machinery in operation and gained insights into yarn design, quality standards, and production planning and scheduling.

The visit provided an interactive learning experience, allowing students to engage with industry professionals and clarify their doubts. Overall, the visit was highly informative and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enhancing students’ analytical and observational skills.

Value Added course on Financial Operating Statements

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA conducted a “Value Added course “Financial Operating Statements” from 22.09.2025 to 30.09.2025 at Hall No. 116 of SLCS Annexure block for the ACCA Second year students. The sessions were handled by resource persons Mr. G. Ganesh Balaji, ACCA, Tutor from International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC). The Primary objective of the session was to provide students with in-depth knowledge and practical exposure to the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of financial operating statements used in business organizations. The session aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and analytical skills in preparing and interpreting financial operating statements such as income statements, cash flow statements, cost and revenue analysis, and key ratios.This course was highly useful and provided valuable insights into financial reporting. Students actively participated and gained valuable exposure to the use of financial operating statements in business decision-making. In total 19 students actively participated in the program and benefitted from the knowledge shared.

Educational Tour

The Department of Honours (ACCA) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science (SLCS), Madurai, organized an Educational Tour from 18th to 21st September for the III Year students. A total of 27 students participated in the tour, comprising 13 ACCA students, and were accompanied by Dr. Selvaraj, Head of the Department, and Ms. Jeyameena, Assistant Professor. The team departed from the college campus on the night of 18th September and travelled overnight to Cochin. On 19th September, the students reached Cochin, had refreshments and breakfast, and proceeded to Wonderla Amusement Park. In the evening, the group checked into the hotel, had dinner, and stayed overnight. On 20th September, after breakfast and checking out from the hotel, the team travelled to Vagamon, enjoying the scenic journey. Upon arrival, the students participated in a jeep safari, covering major local attractions such as Justine View Point, Ilaveezha Poonchira, and Illikkal Kallu. After lunch, the students continued their visit in Vagamon, appreciating the scenic surroundings and spending time together in a calm and natural environment. After dinner, the team departed from Vagamon and travelled back to Madurai. The students reached the college campus early on 21st September, marking the successful completion of the Educational Tour. The tour provided students with memorable experiences, enhanced bonding among classmates, members, and offered valuable exposure beyond the classroom, contributing significantly to their overall academic and personal development.

industrial visit at dattatreya textiles pvt. ltd.,

Department of Commerce (Hons-ACCA) organized an industrial visit to DATTATREYA TEXTILES PVT. LTD., in Madurai on 11.10.2025. During the visit, the students gained practical exposure to the production process, management practices, and human resource management followed in the organization. They understood the technical aspects involved in manufacturing yarn of various designs and quality, along with the functioning of machinery used in production. The students found the production planning and scheduling activities particularly interesting. They also gathered information about the company’s initiatives in product innovation, productivity improvement, and cost reduction. A total of 22 students from II Year ACCA, accompanied by 2 faculty members participated in the visit.

“A Career Guidance Program on becoming ACCA Affiliates”

The Department of B.Com (Honours) ACCA successfully organized an insightful session under the royal charter association titled “A Career Guidance Program on becoming ACCA Affiliates” on 02.08.2025 SLCS Annexure block Hall no: 116. The event was specifically aimed at second and third-year ACCA students to provide them with essential guidance and effective strategies for their upcoming December term examinations. The session was graced by Mrs. Nandadevi K V, Business Relationship Manager, ISDC, Mangalore delivered an engaging and informative talk focused on digital exam strategies and resource utilization. During her address, emphasized the importance of practicing in the digital mode, particularly on laptops, as the ACCA exams are conducted online. She also introduced students to the variety of free resources available on the official ACCA website, including Study Hub, mock test papers, and practice papers, encouraging them to utilize these tools to enhance their preparation. Furthermore, she stressed the value of professional networking and recommended that students stay in touch with their seniors and ACCA affiliates, especially those who have already completed the program, to gain insights into current market trends, job opportunities, and industry expectations. She also encouraged them to connect via LinkedIn and other professional platforms to build meaningful connections in the ACCA community. The session included a lively Q&A segment, where students asked a range of questions related to exams and career paths. The chief guest responded thoughtfully to each query, offering practical tips and motivational advice. The interaction added great value to the session and was highly appreciated by the attendees. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. S. Charumathi, an Assistant professor of the department.  In total, 1 faculty and 40 students benefited from the session.
