Industrial Visit to V.O.C. Port – Tuticorin

Department of MBA organized an Industrial Visit to “V.O.C. Port” at Tuticorin on 26th December 2022, for the I year students . The industrial visit aimed to orient the students about the logistics sector.

Totally, 62 MBA students  and 4 faculty members participated in the program. Dr. R. Sivajothi and Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep were the coordinators.

 

Christmas Eve & New Year Celebration

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management celebrated “Christmas Eve & New Year Celebration- 2023” on 22.12.2022 at the Training Restaurant.  The restaurant was decorated with Christmas theme and the event was celebrated with Christmas carols, pomp and grandeur arranged by MCHM students (68 students).  The Principal along with 70 faculty members participated in this event.

Workshop on Industry 4.0 Revolution for Startups

Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) jointly organized a Workshop on “Industry 4.0 Revolution for Startups” on 21.12.2022 at Hall No. F31 of our college premises. The Resource Person, Dr. S.V.Suraj Sundara Shankar, MBA., Managing Partner & Business Development Head, M/s. S.V.S. Foods & M/s. Velmart Enterprises, Madurai shared his experience to the students. He motivated the students to think of the Industry 4.0 as an information specialist. He shared that the innovation move should be raised to help the monetary, social development, the promotion of startups, generation of employment, and wealth creation. Totally 51 students and 7 Faculty members participated and got benefitted by attending this program.

SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Extension Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA– Cleanliness is service”

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a SLCS-Samaaj Seva—Extension Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA—Cleanliness is Service”, as a one-day cleaning activity at Alagar Kovil, Madurai, on 16.12.2022. Students created awareness among the rural people by providing pamphlets and suggesting them to create a green environment in their surroundings. As a part of the program, they walked along the street, collected plastic waste, and cleaned the temple area. Students actively participated in the program by giving in their full support, which made it a great success. The people in the village appreciated the efforts made by the students and the co-ordinator. Totally, 15 students and 6 faculty members from MCHM took part in this program.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO “KAVERY COLD STORAGE”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial Visit to Kavery Cold Storage, Paravai on 15.12.2022.  It was an informative and interesting visit and the students learned the storage temperature, conditions and the factors affecting cold storage conditions in Cereals, Pulses, vegetables and greens. The students learned the importance of cold storage. Mr. Jaya Kumar, Factory Manager, explained the history, industrial development and technological aspects and professional ethics involved in processing. In general, the visit helped us to gain some technical input to improve the shelf life by proper storage to avoid decay, contamination and spoilage.  The students of I, II and III FSPM (Totally 37 students) and two faculty members got benefited through this visit.

 

webinar on “Data Structures in Python”

Python language strives for a simpler, less-cluttered syntax and grammar while giving developers a choice in their coding methodology. Python language supports various types of data structures. The Department of Computer Science(Security System Specialization) organized a webinar on “Data Structures in Python” for the students of II B.Sc CS(SSS) to know the data structures in python Language. Mr. Nagakumar, CEO of Devspark IT Solutions, conducted the webinar. The webinar was arranged through G-Meet on 14/12/2022 from 11.00 A.M. to 12.30 P.M. Our principal, Dr.Sujatha, delivered the presidential address and advised the students to learn new technical things every day. Mrs. D. Padmapriya, Head, Department of CS(SSS), gave the felicitation address and shared with students the role of data structures in the software development field. The resource person, Mr.Nagakumar, clearly explained the various data structures used in python and the importance of data structures in all applications development. He also explained the importance of mapping and reducing functions used in ‘Big Data storage’. These functions are used to organize the data efficiently for easy retrieval.

The webinar was an eye-opening session for the students and gave a clear insight into the importance of python language in the job market and the implementation of various data types in python.

The association members of TechnoFest Association, Department of CS(SSS), compeered the entire session. Mr.Deepak, II B.Sc CS(SSS), delivered a welcome address and Ms.Tharuni, II B.Sc CS(SSS), thanked the gathering by proposing a vote of thanks.

Totally, 34 students from II B.Sc CS(SSS) attended the session and got benefitted.

Seminar on “PC Assembling and Functional units of the computer”

Department of Computer Science(Security System Specialization) organized a seminar on  “PC Assembling and Functional units of the computer” for the students of I B.Sc CS(SSS) to enhance their knowledge on the internal organization of computers.

Mr. Srinath, System Administrator and his team members, Mr.Jeyaraman and Mr.Arun, SLCS, conducted the seminar on 14/12/2022 from 09.00 to 11.00 A.M. Mrs.D.Padmapriya, Head, Department of Computer Science(Security System Specialization), delivered the felicitation address and introduced the resource person. The resource person showed the motherboard and explained the interconnection between the computer parts. The students have demonstrated the input and output interface circuits and the working principles of the I/O interface. The seminar was an informative session for the students and gave a clear insight into the functionality of all computer’s internal components.

Ms.Raakesh and  Ms.Dhivya, I B.Sc CS(SSS), compeered the entire session and Ms.Dharsitha,          I B.Sc CS(SSS), welcomed the gathering. Finally, Mr.Bharath, I B.Sc CS(SSS), thanked the gathering by proposing a vote of thanks. Totally, 60 students from I B.Sc CS(SSS) attended the session and got benefited.

 

Personal counseling – Harasment through social media

Vishaka Committee ( Internal grievance cell and Sexual harasment cell)  of SLCS conducted Personal Counseling Session to the girl students of I B.Com B&I and II B.Com B&Ion 10.12.2022 and 14.12.2022 respectively. Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal,and Dr. S. Priya, Dean Academics, gave personal counseling to the students, on how to protect themselves from harasment through social media. Students were informed that they must be cautious and if anyone came acrosssuch issues, it should be reported to the concerned authority at the earliest.Dr.R.Sujatha enquired about their grievances individually and made sure that required action will be taken for the welfare of the students.

Educational Tour to Vagamon and Cochin

HEN Association of Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Industrial Visit to Vagamon and Cochin for two days from13.12.2022 to 14.12.2022. The Students visited various places in Vagamon such as Kurisumala, Fine forest, Barren Hills, Mundakayam Ghat on 13.12.2022. On 14.12.2022, the Students visited Wonderla Theme Park in Cochin. The students gained experiential learning which helped them to understand the History, Art and Culture of the people, food habits, and social background of the local people in Kerala. In this trip, students built good relationship with their classmates, experienced new environments and enjoyed the day away from the classroom. Totally, 45 students from II and III year MC&HM and 3 faculty members participated in this visit.

Awareness on Importance of Ayurvedic medicine – Observing National Ayurvedic Day

Consumer Awareness Club & Department of BBA conducted an activity on Awareness on Importance of Ayurvedic medicine – Observing National Ayurvedic Day on 12.12.2022. The students of Consumer Club Members and BBA visited the nearby village Nedumadurai.  They promoted the importance and benefits of Ayurvedic Medicine by explaining the meaning Ayur (Life) and Veda (Science / Knowledge). They also explained the nature and history of Ayurvedic Medicine in India. They further explained that Ayurvedic medicines are more beneficial and has less side effects compared to other type of medical treatments. They also raised slogans promoting the importance of Ayurvedic Medicine. The people from the Nedumadurai village appreciated the students for their promotional work This activity was lead by Dr. B. Meenakshi Sundaram, Consumer Club Coordinator. Totally, 9 students of consumer Club Members and 14 students of I BBA and 4 Students of II BBA eagerly participated in the activity.
