NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER DAY

The Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) celebrated National and International Consumer Day on March 15, 2024, with a series of informative discussions aimed at promoting consumer rights and raising awareness. The event was designed to educate both students and the public on the importance of consumer protection in today’s complex market environment.

            The event began with a warm welcome from Mrs. V. Padmavathy, Head of the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance). Her opening address set a positive tone for the day, emphasizing the importance of consumer awareness in the globalized world. She highlighted the significance of understanding consumer rights and responsibilities, underlining that this event was a crucial step toward educating the future leaders of the business world on these essential issues.

             The highlight of the event was a detailed presentation by Mr. S.V. Srihari, a second-year student from the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) program. His presentation, titled “Consumer Awareness Program”, addressed the current challenges and opportunities surrounding consumer rights. He elaborated on the fundamental rights every consumer is entitled to, such as the right to safety; the right to be informed; the right to choose; and the right to be heard. He provided an overview of consumer protection laws in India, including the Consumer Protection Act of 2019, which has strengthened consumer rights and enforcement mechanisms. Additionally, the presentation highlighted how various countries approach consumer rights, focusing on global initiatives and the role of international organizations in advocating for consumers.

            The event also featured a Consumer Awareness Mime Program, a performance from the second year students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sulochana from I B.Com (B&I).

CUENTAS ASSOCIATION

The Cuentas Association of the Department of Commerce B.Com. (B&I) organized an engaging and informative activity on March 15, 2024. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. Khushbu, setting a positive and welcoming tone for the day. The Vice Principal, Mr. T. Guru Baskar, delivered felicitation address, appreciating the efforts of the department and the students for organizing such an enriching event. The first segment of the event was a Business Quiz Programme, conducted by Ms. A. Swathi (II B.Com. B&I), Mr. Mithun (I B.Com. B&I), and Ms. Nisha (I B.Com. B&I). The quiz was designed to test students’ knowledge on various business topics, economics, and current affairs, fostering a sense of competition and learning among the participants.

            Mr.Udhaya Vishwa, II B.Com B&I, Mr.Hemanarashimman, I B.Com B&I conducted Paper Presentation. Many students presented papers on the topic of Block chain Management, demonstrating their research skills and offering insightful perspectives on the emerging technology. The presentations sparked thoughtful discussions and enhanced the students’ understanding of the subject.

            The final segment of the event featured an engaging session called “As You Like It”, organized by Ms. S. Saishruthi (II B.Com. B&I), Ms. Gopika (I B.Com. B&I), and Ms. Lavanya (I B.Com. B&I). This activity promoted creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills among the students.

            The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sulochana, I B.Com. (B&I). Her words of gratitude acknowledged the contributions of all participants and organizers, bringing the event to a successful close.

            To put in a nutshell, the association activity provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their skills, expand their knowledge, and engage with peers in a meaningful and collaborative way.

INTER- COLLEGIATE

The students of the Department of Commerce participated in an Intercollegiate Meet organized by Bharat Niketan Engineering College, Theni on March 05, 2025. Totally, 50 students from I & II Year (B.Com B&I) participated in the Inter Collegiate Meet.

  • S.Sai Shruthi of II B.com (Banking & Insurance) won the II Prize in Best CEO.
  • S.Simbu and Mr.S.Ramamoorthy of II B.com (Banking & Insurance) won the II Prize in Art from Waste.
  • K.Gopika of I B.com (Banking & Insurance won the II Prize in Mobile Photography.
  • V.Nandha Kumaar, Mr.R.Arun Pandi, Mr.S.Sachin, Mr.K.Udhaya Viswa, Mr.V.Sri Hari, Mr.T.K.Asuthosh Kumar won the I Prize in the Mime Show.

 

Inter Collegiate Meet & National Conference-Paper Presentations

The students of the Department of Commerce participated in a One Day National Conference on Digital Innovation and Sustainable Business Strategies in the Contemporary Era organized by Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai on March 06, 2025. Totally, 4 students from II Year (B.Com B&I) participated in the Conference.

Ms.S.Sai Shruthi, Ms.A.Swathi, Mr.P.Manivikas and Mr.P.Shri Kumaran of II B.Com (Banking & Insurance) received certificates for paper presentation.

INTER- COLLEGIATE & INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The students from the Department of Commerce participated in an Intercollegiate Meet organized by the Department of Computer Science and Design at Sethu Institute of Technology and School of Commas ’25 at The American College, Madurai on February 25 & 28th 2025. Mr. P. Shri Kumaran, and Ms.S.Sai Shruthi, II B.Com (Banking & Insurance), represented our department in the event. Mr.P.Shri Kumaran secured First Prize in the Dalgona Risk competition and won a cash prize as the Runner-up in the Jail Break event and Ms. S.Sai Shruthi received the certificate in the Vocalizing (Singing) event.

Industrial visit to the Idhayam Oil Factory, Villipathiri, Virudhunagar on 05.07.2024

The Department of Commerce (Hons) ACCA students and teachers visited the Idhayam Oil Factory, Villipathiri, Virudhunagar on 05.07.2024. The visit was an experiential learning and helped students to understand the production process of sesame oil. The students learnt the process involved in the oil extraction and also had an idea about the By-products and the waste product, which after further processing have got a great commercial value, revenue and workers unit. The HR explained the Exports process of the products. The students learned about the Quality control, the work in progress and storage process of the products. Totally 47 students from I, II and III year ACCA were participated in this Industrial visit.

Industrial visit to Venus Home Appliances Pvt. Ltd, Thoothukudi On 08.01.2025

The Department of Commerce (Hons) ACCA students and faculties visited the Venus Home Appliances Pvt. Ltd., 5/54A, Senthilampannai, Thoothukudi – 628103 on 08.01.2025 (Wednesday). We visited the factory it is the leading manufacturer of water heaters geysers in India. The students were shown the entire water heater manufacturing process, including the raw material area, quality checking unit, packaging section, and accounts department, inside the factory. Students learned about the quality control management system, how appliances are inspected for quality, and how long the inspection takes. Totally, 52 from I, II and III ACCA along with 2 faculty members visited the factory.

2024 Batch of ACCA Students Fresher’s day celebration

            The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA has conducted “The 2024 Batch First Year Fresher’s Day celebration” on 16.09.2024 in the SLCS seminar hall at 2.15 pm. The event aimed to provide a platform for freshers to interact with their seniors and faculty members. The event began with a formal inauguration ceremony. The head of the department, Dr. D. Selvaraj, gave a brief introduction of ACCA and the department. The Class In charge, Ms. S. Charumathi, welcomed the students with warmth. Following the event, there were other fascinating and entertaining activities. The Senior students welcomed the juniors by presenting a gift to the freshers. A third-year student, Mr. S. Vignesh, delivered the vote of thanks. In total, 52 students and 2 faculty members were present at the event.

Career development Program on the topic of Ethics and Professionalism

                                The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA has conducted the Career development Program on the topic of Ethics and Professionalism on 04.12.2024 (Wednesday) in Hall no: 116, SLCS Annexure block at 09.00 am to 4.30pm. The welcome speech was delivered by Ms. S. Charumathi, Assistant professor. The Chief Guest address was delivered by Dr. D. Selvaraj, Head of the department. The program began with an engaging introduction to ethics and professionalism, highlighting their significance in the workplace. The code of ethics was thoroughly explained with a focus on its application in real life scenarios. The case studies and group discussions encouraged participants to think critically about ethics in the workplace. The Q&A Sessions allowed participants to clarify their doubts and seek guidance on the ethics –related issues. Mr. S. Vignesh from the third year ACCA Student delivered the vote of thanks

Alumni Interaction Meet 2024

The alumni interaction with the students was conducted on 01.07.2024 in NS-116. The alumni shared the valuable experiences, insights, and advice with the students. The interactive session was marked by active participation from the students, who posed thoughtful questions and sought guidance on various aspects of career development and ACCA papers. The alumni shared her experiences and provided tips and strategies to crack the ACCA papers, and she highly insisted the students practice more before appearing for an ACCA exam. The interactions were a resounding success, and the department looks forward to organizing more such events in the future to foster meaningful connections between its alumni and students.  In total 52 ACCA students were benefitted in this program.
