Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an alumni interaction session for the 2020-23 & 2021-24 batch students on 21.10.22. Our alumni Ms. Amirthavarshini and Ms.Aparna (2019-22 Batch), who got placed in RRSK & Associates, Bangalore addressed the session. The session focused on current market expectation from fresh commerce graduates. They shared their start to end placement experience and work experience in RRSK & Associates. They also motivated the students by giving tips on preparing for interviews in Auditing firms. It was an interactive session among the students and the alumni. The students eagerly participated and gathered information from the alumni. Totally, 48 students participated in the session and got benefitted. The session ended up with a vote of thanks by the students.
AWARENESS ON FIRE CRACKERS & FIRST AID
Department of Fire and Industrial Safety & Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized an OUTREACH ACTIVITY on “AWARENESS ON FIRE CRACKERS AND FIRST AID” at KovilangulamVillage, Viruthunagar on 20/10/2022. Totally, III year students (8 Nos) and PG diploma students (5 Nos) along with Mr. R Brameshwaran, Assistant professor, FIS conducted the activity. They created awareness on safe handling of fire crackers and first aid, safer cracker holding techniques, basic first aids, etc. This activity created the awareness among the children to maintain their health and safety and to know about the precautions to be followed. The volunteers insisted the school students to follow the do’s and don’ts in handling crackers. During this activity students explained the causes and effects of the fire crackers among the children.
The aim of this campaign is to emphasize and highlight about the need of following the safety measures during the festival. The children rendered their cooperation & ensured us that they will follow the safety measures. Nearly, 60 children got benefited through this activity.
Outreach Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) – Awareness Programme on “Safe Handling of Fireworks During Festive Season”
Lakshaya Association, Department of MBA, organized an Outreach Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Safe Handling of Fireworks During Festive Season” on 20th October 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at CDS Middle School, Kovilangulam Village, Virudhunagar. The event was organzsed to create awareness on safe handling of crackers. Mr. R. Brameshwaran, Fire & Industrial Safety expert, briefed the preventive measures to be taken while handling fireworks. The students made poster presentation. Totally, 20 MBA students participated in the activity. Dr. R. Sivajothi and Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep were the coordinators.
Outreach Program (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on “Step Up For Bone Health”
To commemorate “World Osteoporosis Day – 12th October 2022” FAGAS association and Health and Nutrition Club of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management celebrated World Osteoporosis Day on the theme of ““Step Up For Bone Health”, organized an outreach program (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on World Day on 20.10.2022”, Our students explain the importance of calcium to prevent osteoporosis and also slow down the bone density loss associated with osteoporosis. Totally thirteen students of II year FSPM students participated in this outreach program and 10 members got benefited from this activity.
TECHIE QUEST CLUB
The Techie Quest Club of Computer science department conducted Practical Sessions on Google Docs and Google Sheetson (19.10.2022) at Academics Lab I.The students of various department attended this session. Mrs.S.Ponmalar, Club Coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Students from various departments participated and practised at lab on creation of document, work sheet and PowerPoint Presentation. Finally, the session ended with the vote of thanks by Kishore Kiruthik,I BBA. Totally, 19 students participatedin this event.
Board of Studies Meeting
Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management conducted Board of Studies Meeting via online on 19.10.2022 at 2.30 p.m. Dr. R. Kannan, Ph. D, Professor & Research Guide, Centre for Tourism and Hotel Management, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, chaired the session as the University Nominee, Mr. M. K. Murugesh, Asst. Professor, Department of Hotel Management, Koneru Lakshmaiah University, Vijayawada, was invited as the Course Expert, Mrs. V. Tina Lalwani, HR Executive. Courtyard by Marriott, Madurai, as the Industrial Expert and Mr. S. Sanmuga Perumal, Head – Dept of HM&CS, Mary Matha College of Arts and Science, Periyakulam, participated as an Alumnus. Mr. C. Sureshkumar, Head of the Department represented the department as the Chairperson along with his faculty members. A student and his parent were invited to share their valid feedback and recommendations for finalizing the syllabi for the academic year 2022-23 Even Semester.
Intra College competition on “Traditional Fireless Cooking”
The Culinary Club from the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Intra college “Traditional Fireless Cooking” competition on 18.10.22, as a part of World Food Day celebration. Totally, 22 students from various departments have actively participated. All the Participants prepared and presented our traditional foods which were prepared with Millet, sprout sandwich, Milkshakes, Fruit Juices, and many more. The dishes were judged by Mr. V. Gangadharan, Assistant Professor- MC&HM and Mr. N. Ramesh, Assistant Professor-MC&HM.
WORLD FOOD DAY CELEBRATION
To commemorate “WORLD FOOD DAY” , FAGAS Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Health and Nutrition Club, jointly organized an event on the theme- “Leave No One Behind” on 18.10.22 at 9.30 am in our college. Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal, inaugurated the program. Various competitions like, Grain Carpet, Poster Making, and Regard before You Discard were conducted for students to showcase their talents. The winners were encouraged by distributing prizes. Dr. K. U. Pavitra Krishna, Head of the Department, delivered a valedictory speech on the ‘Importance of food for all’. Totally, 37 students actively participated and benefited through this program.
SLCS- Samaaj Seva – an Outreach Program on- “Share the Meal” .
Department Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized (SLCS- Samaaj Seva), an outreach Activity on “Share the Meal” -Donate Food to needy people at Thiruparankundram Temple, Madurai on 17.10.22. Totally, 10 students from II year have taken part in the program. They prepared and distributed variety rice (around 70 packets) to the deserted people in the area.
Through this outreach program, we were able to sensitize our students to gain social values, widen their responsibility and receive a wide spectrum of knowledge in environmental issues by making them to work with community. Students were immensely satisfied after witnessing the smile on the faces of the homeless people on receiving the food packets.
Career counseling on “Hospitality Job Opportunities in Merchant Shipping”
Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Alumni Interaction for the first time (for 39 students) on 17.10.2022. Mr. Vino Christwin C, an alumni of the department, presently working as general steward, Fleet Shipping Management, Mumbai. He created awareness among the students about the “Hospitality Job Opportunities in Merchant Shipping”. He spoke of how a career in shipping is perfect for individuals who are fascinated by the sea, love travelling to foreign ports and want to experience different cultures. International trade and commerce rely heavily on shipping and maritime transport. Almost 90% of trade is done through sea routes, which increases the need for professionals in this area. After completing your degree, you can join government or private shipping companies or various port agencies in India or abroad. The shipping industry is one of the best sectors to build your career in. Marine catering students can also join the merchant ship as general stewards and learn about the duties and responsibilities of a general steward, the importance of hygiene, safety measures, the selection process, and the documents required for joining the shipping company. This program boosted the confidence of the students.
