Alumnus Interaction – Database Management

The Department of Networking organized an Online Alumnus interaction session for the I year Networking students on 23th September, 2020. Mr.R.Nandhakumar explained about the concepts of Database Management and skills required to become a Database administrator. He enlightened students about the various security measures to be implemented over a Network. Also insisted about the requisite skills to become a successful entrepreneur. He said that the line of action should be initiated right from the present day for those with passion in this field. He, also, mentioned the various opportunities available and the rewarding experiences that one can attain in this field. 16 students got benefited by this webinar.

  3. Current Trends in IT and Networking
  4. Job opportunities and Placements
  5. Steps to be initiated to become an Entrepreneur

ALUMNI INTERACTION

On 23.09.2020, Alumnus of Computer Science Department, Mr.T.Vigneswaran (Batch: 2016–19), pursuing Post Graduate Programme in Game Technology, interacted with 48 students of I year CS (SSS) (Batch: 2020-23), through Google Meet. He shared his learning experience at SLCS. He also motivated the students to concentrate on Programming Languages from the first year itself to develop their knowledge in Gaming Technology. The students clarified their queries through this interactive session.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

On 23.09.2020, Alumnus of Computer Science Department, Mr.S.Rajamanickam (Batch: 2016–19), Developer, MAVEL Technologies Pvt. Ltd. interacted with 48 students of I year CS (SSS) students (Batch: 2020-23), through Google Meet. He highlighted the Earn While Learn Program offered by the department and emphasized the technical experience he received through this program. He urged the students to enhance their technical skills by utilizing such opportunities provided by SLCS. The students clarified their queries through this interactive session.

MENTOR MEETING REPORT

On behalf of the Department of CS, the third Mentor Meeting for the odd semester 2020 – 2021 was conducted online on 18.09.2020 in the Academic Lab-1 and Academic Lab-II at 1.30 PM. All mentors in the department met their mentees separately through Google Meet and Google Classrooms. The mentees were informed that the mentor meeting will be conducted every Friday at 11.50am. The students were informed of the new mentor mentee list.Students shared their grievances and various personal problems faced by them with their mentors.

Webinar on Creative Lighting Techniques “Mr. J. Pandiaraj”

The Department of Visual Communication conducted a webinar on Creative Lighting Techniques for our Students on 18.09.2020. The inaugural session started at 02.00 pm. Mr. Babu Shajan Kevin, Assistant Professor, gave a brief introduction about the college and the department. Mr. J. Pandiaraj, Assistant Cinematographer, Chennai was the guest of honor. He has worked with Mr. Rajiv Menon, renowned cinematographer, for various advertisements as lighting supervisor and camera operator. Mr. Sivarajan, Assistant Professor delivered the key note address.

During the session the guest presented on various types of lights used in films and he also demonstrated by playing the subsequent clip. The students were asked to identify where the lights were placed. They actively responded. He covered seven major areas of lighting used in films. He used references from classical movies to commercial films. He also shared his experience working as a lighting supervisor with various leading cinematographers in the film industry. The session went on well with a total number of 42 students participating actively. He gave the students exercises relating to lighting. Later, the students asked their queries. He responded to each and every students query and also provided career guidance. Students enjoyed the session very much and thanked the management for providing such a wonderful opportunity and expecting more such events in near future.   Mr. C. Rajavardhan, Instructor proposed the vote of thanks. The event was a grand success.

Test Your Skills – Creative Arts & Literary Activity

Art and Media Club & SIP Cell of SLCS organized an Activity session on “Test Your Skills – Creative Arts & Literary Activities”.

Mr.P.Kishorekumar, Assistant Professor of Animation cum SIP Coordinator, conducted an activity oriented session on the topic “Test Your Skills – Creative Arts & Literary Activity” on 17.09.2020. The following were the activities posted during the session.

  • Drawing                              –        Topic         :  Current Affairs
  • Tamil Verse Writing        –        Topics       : நம்நாடு, தாய்மை, நட்பு
  • English Verse Writing     –        Topics       : Success, Failure, Beauty.
  • Art from Waste                 –        Topics       : Waste from home
  • Literary Activity                –        Platform  : Read Theory

The SIP Coordinator explained about the activity by creating an interest towards the students. The students showed their eagerness towards this session by their active participation. The students were again informed about this participative learning and experiential learning through these activities. They were also asked to post the articles in the given mail id. Totally 250 students Participated and got benefitted.

Online Refreshing and Rejuvenating Workshop on Sound Therapy

ZEAL, BBA Association of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an Online Refreshing and Rejuvenating Workshop on Sound Therapy on 16.09.2020. Ms.Sunithi S.Ramesh, Sound Therapist and Gong Master, Satvat Holistics was the resource person. Students actively participated in the workshop and experienced a complete relaxation and rejuvenation by listening to different sounds arising out of various bowls using gongs. The connection between sound and body was explained in detail and demonstrated. Students were able to receive a positive vibration through the workshop. No. of Students Participated: 114(36+47+31)

Guest Lecture on “How to read and validate NEWS? (Virtual Tour)”

Art and Media Club & SIP Cell of SLCS organized a webinar on “How to read and validate NEWS? (Virtual Tour)”. NEWS – North East West South, the expansion of this acronym. Dr.R.Jeyakrishnan, Special Correspondence, Win TV, Chennai, shared his views on the topic “How to read and validate NEWS?” on 16.09.2020. He initiated the session by the virtual tour in the Win TV Channel, Chennai. He also explained the students that all the TV Stations’ gates will be opened always to receive the news from the public 24/7. He shared the students about the difficulties in collecting news. He then explained about the freedom given to each and every reporter while collecting news. A news reporter can even enter into a whole where the air cannot be entered. He answered the query raised by the students regarding the TRP rating. Finally he insisted the students to hear and read newspapers regularly for updating themselves about the current scenario. Totally 240 students attended and got benefitted.

Board of Studies Meeting

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management conducted an Online Board of Studies Meeting on 15.9.2020 between 2.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. Dr. R.Kannan, Ph.D, Professor & Research Guide, Centre for Tourism and Hotel Management, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, represented as the University Nominee , Prof.RameshRaj.S ,Associate Professor, Dept of  HM&CS , MKU  College, Madurai  represented the  Subject Expert, Prof. Jayanthi, Assistant Professor, Dept of French, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was the university nominee for Language, Mr. P. Balasubramaniam, Director – Operations, Hotel Amika, Madurai represented as the Industrial Expert , Mr. Karthikeyan.R,  participated as an Alumni,  Mr. C. Sureshkumar, Head of the Department  represented as the Chairperson. The Department Faculty members, a Parent and a Student participated as members in the Board of Studies Meeting and gave their valid feedback and recommendations for framing the syllabus.
