WEBINAR ON NEW TECH CAMERAS

The Department of Visual Communication conducted a webinar on New Tech Cameras for the students on 22.06.2020. A total number of 79 students participated in this event.  Mr. Rajavardhan, Instructor, inaugurated the session at 10.30 am and spoke about the College and the Department of Visual Communication. Mr. Senthil Kumar and Prabhu Mohan, Chief Guests of the day gave lectures on camera and provided career counseling about the job opportunities available. Mr. Babu Shajan Kevin, Assistant Professor delivered the key note address. Mr. Sivarajan, proposed the vote of thanks and the function concluded with the National Anthem.

The Eyes Never Sleep in the Camera World was the topic for the session. Mr. Senthil Kumar gave an elaborate lecture about the camera industry and on the new technology. Mr. Prabhu Mohan gave hands – on practice in operating the camera to the students, who eagerly participated. They were enthusiastically focused and asked many technical questions. The program was a grand success with the students, emphasizing for many more such webinars.

WEBINAR ON BASICS OF DIGITAL MEDIA

The Department of Visual Communication conducted a four day webinar on BASICS OF DIGITAL MEDIA from 3rd June to 6th June 2020. Alumna of Visual Communication, Ms. K.S. Subasree spoke on Digital Media and its basic functions. Some of the points covered by the expert were, Videos or Entertainment content streaming directly to the viewer (via) Internet, Main Indian OTT Platforms according to their ranks, Netflix, Amazon, Disney Hotstar, Viu, Zee and MX Player. She briefed students on Series Making, Steps in Series Making and Script writing, which is a major component in the OTT Platforms and also provided career guidance to the students. The session was attended by students of 2nd and 3rd year B.Sc (Viscom) and 2nd year M.Sc. (Viscom). A total numbers of 59 students were benefitted through this webinar.

The webinar was welcomed and appreciated by the students. Feedback taken from the students reflected the same. The event was headed by Mr. C. Rajavardhan.

WEBINAR ON ETHICS OF NEWS PRESENTATION

The Department of Visual Communication conducted a webinar on Ethics of News Reading for the students of 2nd and 3rd B.Sc Viscom and 2nd M.Sc Viscom from 26.05.2020 to 31.05.2020.A total number of 59 students participated in the webinar. The expert, Ms. Priyadarshini, an alumna of the department, went all out of her way in covering all important aspects of News Reading, with the sole purpose of enabling students in joining News channels and taking up anchoring jobs. She elaborated on various topics such as screen face, acting skills, etc. The students got due exposure on the topics mentioned earlier.

Ms. Priyadarshini also spoke of her time as a student in the department of Visual Communication, SLCS and said that she had complete focus on her career even when she was studying. Presently she is working in renowned television channels as an actor.

The webinar was a 5-day package given to the students.  The webinar was welcomed by the students of the department, especially during the Corona pandemic period. The students requested to conduct a number of similar events.

Career counseling – PG

Mr. Thirumalaisamy, Mentor of 2nd M.Sc Viscom encouraged the students to choose the field of Journalism and press media. Students actively participated in the programme. The staff who took the workshop were immensely experienced and professional. The interactions made sure that there was no low point in the session. It gave everyone a clear perspective for the long run. All the factors affecting the choice of the students were addressed and the myths and superstitions regarding the choices were removed to a large extent. They showed presentations and various forms which were and organized and broken down into particular streams. It was very informative and interactive and even quite fun. They quite well managed to persuade the parents to attend their sessions being conducted separately too.

Leaders Birthday Celebration

Bharati was born on 11 December 1882 in the village of Ettayapuram, to Chinnaswami Subramania Iyer and Lakshmi Ammal. Subbaiah, as he was named, went to the M.D.T. Hindu College in Tirunelveli.

This Day was celebrated as his Birthday on 11/12/2019 at the department of Visual Communication, SLCS. The event started at 3.00 pm at the PCR studio of the Department. The session took off by the speech given by Ms. Abirami of 2nd year; she lit up the spot light on the history of the famous freedom fighter. In continue to this the student Ms. N. Naramada, MSc. 1st year discussed the various unforgettable works given to mankind by the eminent personality.

The head of the department started his speech on some important aspects Bharati’s best-known works include Kaṇṇan pāṭṭu (1917; Songs to Krishna), Panchali sapatham (1912; Panchali’s Vow), and Kuyil pāṭṭu (1912; Kuyil’s Song). Many of his English works were collected in Agni and Other Poems and Translations and Essays and Other Prose Fragments.

With this, the session had ended at 4.00 pm on high note remembering his great achievements and which was explained to the students of Visual Communication. The feedback from students was that they loved these types of sessions and know the things which they are unaware.

Career counseling – UG

Department of Visual communication conducted a Career counseling session on 20/10/2019, for the 2nd & 3rd year B.Sc Viscom.

Mr. M.Raghukalidasan is the mentor of 3rd year Viscom students. He counseled the 3rd year students about career opportunities in current media industry.

Mr.Thirumalaisamy, Mentor of 2nd B.Sc Viscom advised the students on choosing their career in the film industry.

Mr.Anbusathiyan, Mentor of 2nd year viscom guided the students on the Job opportunities in the Television industry.

Mr. Arun mozhi varman, Mentor of 2nd M.Sc Viscom encouraged the students to choose the field of Journalism and press media.

Along with six students assistant professors Mr Pradeep kumar K and Mr S Arun Mozhi Varman have gone to the school to take the session. They have presented a lecture and Power point presentation on social media and mobile phone usage. The students from school have found the session was very useful.

Multi cam production workshop

The department of Visual Communication organized a one day workshop on Multi cam Production on 1st Augest 2019 for III B.Sc VISCOM students. The Executive Producer of Sun TV and alumnus of VISCOM – SLCS MR M. Venkatraman was the Resource person for the Workshop. He gave inputs on the three stages of TV productions. He also demonstrated to student about Multi cam Switching.

student’s Forum “Media’s Cornet”

On 31 July 2019, The Department of Visual Communication installed its student’s forum for the academic year 2019 – 2020.  Mr R. Shanmugapriyan founder MRKR communications and our alumnus was the chief guest of the event.  Dr B.Ramamoorthy Principal, Dr M. Raghukalidasan HOD Viscom and other staff members from viscom department and students participated in the event.  Students are selected for following post. The Head of the department Dr.Raghukalidasan explained the various responsibilities of the members of the Forum.
