The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a Seminar on 27th December 2021 on the topic “Electrical Safety in Process Industries” for the students of B.Sc Fire and Industrial safety & PG Diploma Fire and Industrial Safety (29 students). Our Department faculty , Mr.B.Satheeshprabu welcomed the resource Person and gave an introduction about him. The resource person was Mr.G.P Parani kumar, Deputy Manager – Maintenance, from Sundaram Fasteners Limited,Madurai. He explained the importance of Electrical Safety and gave the information about Hazards due to Electrical faults. He also discussed the hazards happened in his experience and how he rectified it. The students actively interacted with the resource person and gained the knowledge on Electrical Hazards and Safety Measures to avoid it. Finally the session ended by giving Vote of thanks.
Value added course on “Basic safety audit and ISO 45001”
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety has organized a value added course on “Basic safety audit and ISO45001” for the students of IInd and IIIrd year Fire & Industrial Safety (29 Nos) from 22.12.2021 to 25.12.2021. Mr. Mr.K.Vengateshan, HSE, from Global Safety Solution was the trainer for the program. He explained clearly about the need for the safety audit and the auditing techniques. He also gave useful tips for the Final year students for their career and Higher education. The students of F&IS felt very happy for undergoing the Value Added Course which will really support their career enrichment.
TRAINING PROGRAM ON FIRST AID
The Department of Fire & Industrial Safety organized a Training program on the “Basics First Aid”. The training was conducted by Akksha training and consulting services from 13.12.2021 to 16.12.2021. Mr.S.Siva Kumar Trainer (First Aid) and Miss R. Birundha of Akksha training and consulting services was the resource person for the training program. Totally 21 III year students of Fire and Industrial safety Department eagerly participated in the training program. The resource person practically demonstrated the basics of First Aid practices to be followed during the emergencies on affected victim. The students felt that the program was very useful to them and at the end of training program an interactive session was arranged to clear the doubts of the Students.
VALUE ADDED COURSE ON IOSH-MS
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety conducted a Value Added Course on IOSH Managing Safely (MS) V 5.0 Certified by UK Institution (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) for 21students of III year B.Sc., (F&IS) Fire & Industrial Safety from 9.12.2021 to 12.12.2021. Mr. M. Krishna Moorthy and Mr. K. Senthil Nathan HSE from Green World group was the trainer for the VAC. He trained the students clearly about the Importance of IOSH by framing with 7 different Modules. He also explained about hazard controlling methods, risk Assessment and the procedures for investigating and reporting accidents at work. The Students understood about the importance of proactive and reactive health & safety monitoring measures. The students were also given hands-on training on the Risk Assessment data. He also gives the career guidance and Job opportunity in the safety field. At the end of the programme a Student successfully completed the Online Individual assessment. The students of B.Sc (F&IS) (2019 batch) shared their positive feedback for arranging such a useful Value added course which will help them to build their career.
Board of studies meeting
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety Conducted Even semester Board of Studies on 17.11.2021 for B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) and PG diploma in Fire and Industrial Safety for regular and weekend. The BoS meeting was chaired by Mr.I.Vivek Ramkumar Head of the department (Fire and Industrial Safety). Mr.A.Jaiveer Kumar Assistant professor jointly presented the drafted syllabus in the BoS Meeting. The University nominee, the Industrial expert, the academic expert, the Parent nominee, the Alumini, UG student and PG student shared their valuable suggestion regarding the syllabus. The main discussion by the University nominee, Industrial expert and the academic expert was about the recent fire case study, legal complaints and accident happened in the Industries. Finally the BoS meeting as completed in a successful manner for even semester.
CAREER COUNSELING ON CHEMICAL SAFETY
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety has organized a one day Career counseling program through the Alumnus for 40 students of UG F&IS on 17/11/2021. Our College Alumnus Mr.V.Saravana Pandiyan (2018-21 Batch) Coordinator QHSE, Hindustan Technical Services, Chennai was the resource persons for the program. He shared his Industrial experience, the future of Chemical safety field and its job opportunities Safety in India and abroad. He also gave assurance for the internship and placement assistance. He also gave useful suggestion and ideas to the B.Sc., Fire and Industrial Safety students for the bright future. At the end of the program an interactive session was arranged for the I,II,III Year UG F&IS students and PG students who participated in the program. The students of F&IS and engineering graduates felt very happy for arranging such a useful Career guidance program which helped them to build their Career for a bright future.
Awareness Program on “Disaster management”
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety Collaborated with the Herbert William Heinrich Safety Association, Environmental Health and Safety club and Indian Red Cross Society jointly organized an awareness program on “Disaster management” and commemorated the International disaster risk reduction day on 27th October, 2021. Totally 296 students from SLCS and 16 students UVS electropathy medical college attended this awareness program. Third year B.Sc., (F&IS) student, Mr.M.Sakthi Periyasamy delivered the welcome address. Dr.R.Sujatha Principal gave her Presidential address and shared her own experience on reacting in the midst of the disaster management. She also insisted the students to response quickly by showing the humanity at the time of facing accidents. Vice Principal, Dr.K.Archunan and Dr.S.Priya Dean -Academics gave felicitation address.
Chief Guest Mr. P. M. Stalin (Indian Red Cross Society) Thiruparamkundram division, Program officer gave the introduction of Indian Red Cross Society Thiruparamkundram division. One of the SLCS students stated the History of Red Cross society along with the importance of humanity, human value and moral thinking and the way they work for the society. Mr. M. P. Jones (Indian Red Cross society) Program Officer explained the type of disaster and preventive measures for the disasters. Mr.R.Vengadesh, Fire officer (Fire and rescue station Periyar) demonstrated on how to extinguish the fire and he also indulged the students about the moral value followed in our life.

Viswanath, DGM-HSE, Adani Gas (Indian Oil-Adani Gas JV-IOAGPL) & M.Manivannan,Assistant Manager-Safety CAPLIN STERILES LIMITED (Subsidiary of Caplin Point Laboratories Ltd) were the resource persons for the program. They shared their Industrial experience, the future of safety field and its job opportunities hydrocarbon & process industry, in India and abroad. They also gave assurance for the internship and placement assistance. They also gave useful suggestion and ideas to the B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) students for a bright future. At the end of the program an interactive session was arranged for the I, II, III Year UG FIS students & PG students who participated in the program. The students of F&IS and engineering graduates felt very happy for arranging such a useful Career guidance program which helped them to build their Career for a bright future.
Value Added Course on “National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health”
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a training program on NEBOSH for the students of PG Diploma in Fire and Industrial Safety from 13/09/2021 to 30/09/2021. The Resource persons were Mr.M.Krishna Moorthy and Mr.K.Senthi Nathan from Green World Group, a leading training Institute. Mr.K.Senthil Nathan, HSE Trainer explained the importance of NEBOSH and gave training on element of NEBOSH IGC1and IGC2. He demonstrated various IGC1 and IGC1 elements with Industrial based scenario for the students to got training in writing the online examination. The students understood the proactive & reactive health and safety management system. He also gave career guidance and detailed Job opportunities available in the field of safety. The students were highly satisfied with the training program and requested for more such programs.

50th National Safety Day celebration
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety celebrated the 50th National Safety Day on (4.3.21). On behalf of the department 50th National Safety badges were distributed to the students .All the students from Fire and Industrial Safety department,Second year students from the departments of Food science, MC& HM, Animation, Viscom, Networking, Computer Science and BBA participated in the program . It started with Mr. I .Vivek Ramkumar, HoD giving the welcome address. In his address he stressed that Safety is common to all and also very important to all professional courses in our college. The Principal, Dr.R.Sujatha, in her presidential address, emphasized that wearing of masks is mandatory during the covid-19 pandemic but many are not following the rules. She insisted to follow the safety rules and regulations in every aspect of our individual life for sustained development. The Principal took the pledge for the 50th National Safety Day along with the students and staff members. The Dr.R.Priya, Dean –Academics, gave the felicitation address.Mr.P.Navaneetha Krishnan, gave a brief introduction about the chief guest, Mr.T.Sargunam B.E., D.I.S., who has more than 30 years of experience in the Safety field as Safety Engineer, Safety Consultant and Safety Adviser in various concerns such as NLC, ITC,Sterlite Industries of Vedanta Group and Dalmia Cements. He is a life time member of the National Safety Council. The Chief Guest spoke about the history of National Safety Council and the reasons for celebrating National Safety Day. He underscored the theme of the National Safety Day 2021, that is, “Sadak Suraksha (Road Safety).”
He shared his experience on behaviour based accidents in Industries.He, finally shared videos of the various types of road accidents.The program concluded with Mr A.Jaiveer Kumar, Assistant Professor proposing the vote of thanks.
