Value Added Course on “Institution of Occupational Safety and Health –Managing Safely (IOSH-MS)

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety  organized a training program on IOSH – Managing Safely V 5.0 Certified by UK based Institution ( Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) for the students of B.Sc(F&IS) Fire & Industrial Safety (2018 batch). Mr.M.Krishna Moorthy and Mr R. Loganathan of Green World Group, a famous training Institute were the Resource persons. Mr.R.Loganathan B.Tech, MS (Sweden), MBA explained the importance of IOSH and gave training on 7 Modules of IOSH.  He demonstrated hazard controlling methods, risk assessment and the procedures for investigating and reporting accidents at work. Students understood the importance of proactive & reactive health and safety monitoring measures. The students were given hands-on training in Risk Assessment data. He, also, gave career guidance and detailed the Job opportunities available in the field of Safety.

32nd Road Safety Training Programme

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, NRP Safety Solutions & the Rotary Club of Madurai Central jointly organized a Road Safety Training programme at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science on 29.1.2021 for the benefit of teaching and non teaching staff at SLCS members, as part of the 32nd Road Safety Month.

Mr.P.Navaneetha Krishnan, Assistant Professor, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety welcomed the Guest Speaker, Mr.Vanthe Matharam Madhavan to conduct the Training programme. The Guest Speaker explained   Road Safety rules and regulations and shared video footages of various types of road accidents. He instructed Safe driving techniques for two wheelers and four wheelers. Mr. R Prabhu, Director & Lead Safety Consultant, NRP Industrial Safety Equipments & Services and Rtn. Ashok (President – Rotary Club of Madurai Central) thanked the college management and appreciated Mr. Vanthe Matharam Madhavan for  his wonderful lecture about Road Safety. Mr. V.Dhamotharan, Assistant Professor, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety proposed the vote of thanks.

Disaster Emergency Response Training

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a Disaster Management Emergency Response Training for the Teaching and Non- teaching Staff members and B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) 72 members at Alagarkovil, Madurai on 23/01/2021. The principal, Dr.R.Sujatha welcomed the staff members. The Department HoD, Mr .I. Vivek Ramkumar inaugurated the training programme. Mr R.Brameshwaran, Assistant Professor gave an overview about Disaster Management and compered the program. Mr B.Satheeshprabhu, Mr P.Navaneethakrishnan, Mr V.Dhamotharan and Mr A.Jaiveer Kumar, Assistant Professors spoke about Life saving skills during Biological Disasters, Landslides, Forest fires and Floods. The II year Students demonstrated Emergency Carrying Techniques and the III year students demonstrated about the CPR Technique and First Aid for Fracture, Choking and Poisoning.

The HoD spoke about the importance of trekking and the Teaching and Non- teaching Staff members went for a trek in the Alagarkovil Hills.

The program was conducted to create awareness during Emergency situations  and  the  Preventive measures to be adopted during  Disasters .

Totally 72 Members [Teaching staff-46, Non Teaching staff-17, Students-9] Participated in this program.

TRAINING PROGRAM ON EMERGENCY EVACUATION AND MOCK DRILL

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety Collaborated with NSS unit conducted Emergency Evacuation and Fire demo for teaching and non teaching staff members on 31/10/2020. Our Department HOD and faculty members gave the warning signal for emergency evacuation program then teaching and non teaching staff’s members are asked to assemble in the North gate area. Time taken for Evacuation procedure is 5.25minutes.Total number of staff participated in the program is 35 .Fire and Industrial Safety department staff members Instructed other  staff members at the time of hearing the siren all should assemble at the emergency access point less than 2.30 minutes. Department staff explained clearly about the needs of emergency evacuation program .After that B.Sc(F&IS) final year student.V.Saravanapandi and A. Abdul Azeez demonstrated the operation of fire extinguisher and how to operate the extinguisher and they explained the class of fire and types of  Extingusher.Finally staff members are voluntarily came forward and operate the fire extinguisher.

Our program was successful in creating Safety awareness and offering the training to the teaching and non teaching staff members. We received a very good appreciation and feedback from them.

EXTENSION ACTIVITY ON BASIC FIRE SAFETY

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety has organized an extension activity at Fatima College on 29/01/2020. Our Department HOD and II year Students have presented the PPT, delivered the speech about Basic Fire Safety and Domestic Safety and gives a demonstrate how to operate the Fire Extinguishers while emergency time to the students, teachers and non-teaching staffs.

We have conducted the program in terms of the strategies they wanted to adopt and to create awareness on the day – to – day activities related to Safety issues. Our program was successful in creating awareness to the students and staffs on Basic Fire Safety and Domestic Safety as well as we received a very good appreciation feedback from them.

Totally 24 students got benefited through this program.

SARDAR VALLABHBHAI PATEL DEATH ANNIVERSARY (20:12:2019)

 The Department of Fire & Industrial Safety has organized Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel death anniversary (20:12:19) at seminar hall. Welcome speech given by second year student Vishweshwaran. Our principal

Dr. Ramamurthy has spoken about the history of Indian independence and explained clearly about how the India was united by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Second year student Anand Raman, Venkadesh spoke about life history and achievements of Sardar Vallbhbhai Patel. Finally first year student Dhanush gave vote of thanks and we conclude the program with Quiz interaction to student. The students felt that the program was very useful to them.

CAREER COUNSELING PROGRAMME

The Department of Fire & Industrial Safety has organized a Career Counseling cum workshop on 30.11.2019 for KR School Students , Mr.I.Vivek Ramkumar HOD, Department of Fire & Industrial Safety clearly explained the future growth of safety and the demand for safety professionals in various fields. He also gave useful tips for the Students regarding the job opportunities for safety in various sectors. Fire Demo was conducted in RLINS ground by the HOD of Fire & Industrial Safety to create awareness among the participants on handling of Safety Equipments. At the end of the program an Interactive session was conducted and the feedback from the Students who participated in the program was good and the program ended with Vote of Thanks.  The School Students Visit is successfully completed with a great positive impact in the minds of the students and the faculty members of the school. We have received an overwhelming Response from the school Students. Totally 15 students participated in this program.

Guest Lecture Program

Department of Fire & Industrial Safety organized one day guest Lecture Programme on the topic of ‘Quality Concepts’. Dr.A.Palpandi Prof & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, BNEC was a resource person. He gave the valuable lecture about the Quality Management Concepts, ISO, TPM, TQM, 5S, Quality Tools. Students  interacted with him and clarified their doubts clearly & efficiently.

Totally 64 students participated in this program.
