Field Visit to Thirumalai Naiyakkar Mahal

D. P. Roy Choudhury Association, Department of Animation, organized a Field Visit to Thirumalai Naiyakkar Mahal on 23.11.2022 for students of I B.Sc. Animation & P.G. Diploma in Animation Techniques.

The main objective of this trip is to understand the artistic blend of Dravidian and Islamic style of Art &Architecture. Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace is a place worth admiring and exploring. It was built in 1635, by the King Thirumalai Nayak who had the vision of creating a masterpiece for royal stay. It was designed as a residence for the king by an Italian architect. The interior of this palace mesmerizes everyone with its intricate paintings, design and sculptures. Paintings on the roof of the palace are worth noticing. Along with courtyard, the dancing hall of the palace is also worth exploring. This palace is one of the must visit places of history and those who love to explore architectural fineness of bygone eras. The sound and light shows conducted every evening at the palace, makes the visit to this palace even more exciting. Now under the protection of Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department, this palace was declared as a national monument immediately after independence.

Students visited the Exhibition of royal lifestyle of the Palace, organized by the Tamilnadu Archaeological Department. The students sketched the Palace from their perspective and made use of this trip as an outdoor study.

The Visit ended fruitfully and totally 36 students were benefitted through this visit.

Professional Training Programme on “VFX Industry-Academia Collaboration”

Department of Animation organized a Professional Training Programme on“VFX Industry-Academia Collaboration”on 16.11.2022 through Google Meet for Animation faculty members.

The programme started with the welcome address by Mr. P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Asst. Prof., Dept. of Animation. Mr. Rajan, Vice President – HR, Phantom FX Studio, Chennai,was the resource personof the event.

The objective of the event is to catalyze industry academia partnerships to prepare work ready workforce, reduce the job training cost, and make learners more employable.

He addressed that the Institution should encourage thestudents to develop &cultivate talents that meet local industry needs in the industry-academia collaboration programs. Thesekinds of program incorporate a large amount of practical training (including industry internship) through which businessmen train their future employees and international students develop their practical skills. The students will also learn more about working in a local company. After they graduate or acquire their certificate, they will be employed either by a company (most likely a local one) or in the company, at which they had their internship, making great contributions. This makes the students to develop their personality and responsibility together.

The Programme ended fruitfully and totally 5faculty members werebenefited through this program.

Career Guidance Programme on “Expectations from the Fresher in the Advertising Sector”

D.P. Roy Choudhury Association, Department of Animation, organized a Career Guidance Programme on “Expectations from the Fresher in the Advertising Sector” on 02.11.2022 at 12.00p.m. in the Animation Academic Lab– III of our college premises.

Mr.S.Saravanan, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Animation, welcomed the gathering.  Ms. Dhivya, Human Resource Manager, Menorah Stationaries – Madurai,was the chair person of the day. She explained, “Employment opportunities for a fresher in India have increased in manifold over the last few years. The only way to have an edge over others in the job market is to assess yourself and hone your employable skills accordingly. Employers look for certain basic qualities and if you can groom yourself to meet their expectation, you can secure your dream job in no time”. She also insisted, “Talk to seniors who are already in the job or use the internet to develop the relevant skills in the Advertising Sector. Whatever skills you mention as your strengths, to impress your employer, should be kept ready with ideas to support to achieve clarity. Basically, you should be strong in fundamentalsof the designing software and be good in analytical & communication skills”. She concluded her speech by saying, “Sound communication will help you to grab the attention of all and you can easily carve a place for yourself in the organization.”

The programme concluded effectively and received a positive feedback from the students. Totally,28 students were benefitted through this event.

Career Guidance Programme cum Alumni Interaction on “Recent Trends in Gaming Industry”

D.P.Roy Choudhury Association, Department of Animation, organized a Career Guidance programme cum Alumni Interaction on “Recent Trends in Gaming Industry” on 29.10.2022 at 11.30 a.m. in the Animation Academic Lab – I of our college premises.

Mr.M. Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Animation, welcomed the gathering.  Mr.SanthanaBharathy (2011-14), Lead Game Developer, Sports Tech Pvt. Ltd., acted as the alumni and guide.

He addressed that the COVID-19 pandemic inadvertently led to a tremendous growth in the gaming industry, as people had to stay home to be safe. Movies and online gaming became major sources of entertainment and the implementation of newer technologies in game production led to radical transformations, making online gaming even more outstanding and interactive than ever before. He also explained the concepts of AR Gaming, Gaming with Crypto-currency, Gaming and 5G, Cloud-based Gaming, Competitive Gaming and e-Sports. With the increasing use of smart-phones globally, the mobile gaming industry is expected to continue its upward growth and cross over 1.5 billion users by 2022. He concluded that the gaming industry is expected to latch onto this trend of invest and profit from the segment of players.

The programendedsuccessfully and received a positive feedback from the students. Totally,28 students were benefitted throughthis program.

Field Visit to Archaeological Sites of Southern Tamilnadu

D.P. Roy Choudhury Association, Department of Animation, organized “A One Day Field Visit to Archaeological Sites of Southern Tamilnadu” on 15.10.2022.

The main objective of this field trip is to observe the ancient history and culture. The students of I Year B.Sc.& P.G. Diploma in Animation visited Thirumayam Fort, Kudimiyan Malai, Chithanavasal etc. They admired the fantabulous architecture of the ancient kings of the Chozha Kingdom. The students were instructed to observe the art & architecture of the Places visited. The Majestic Kings of those times built their forts and palaces with foresight. They began to imprint their history and valour through art on the walls of the forts and temples. Later, when people tried to study the history, they were guided based on the art they created. Students cherished and enjoyed the trip.

Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Asst. Prof, Ms.S. Glory, Asst. Prof., & Mr. N. Naveendra Kumar, Instructor, Department of Animation made all the arrangements for the visit.

The Field visit turned out to be productive and totally 40 students were benefitted through this visit.

Campus to Corporate Connect with Tata Elxsi-Bangalore Professional Training Programme on “Recent Trends in Digital Technologies”

Department of Animation organized a Professional Training Programme on “Recent Trends in Digital Technologies” (A Campus to Corporate Connect with Tata Elxsi) on 07.10.2022 at 10.00a.m in theBoard Room of our college premises.

Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Asst. Prof, Dept. of Animation, welcomed the gathering. Mr.Venkatrakrishnan, Head of Production and Mr. SaravananRangaswamy, Producer from Tata Elxsi, Bangalore,acted as the chief guestsfor the event.

They explained the faculty members that the advancements of digital technologies in recent trends have opened doors to thevarious possibilities for the tech-immigrant generation to inculcate the latest trends in the market, among young minds that are tech-native (born in the digital era).The taste and preference of audience keep changing in the modern, fast-paced world. As a result, there is an immense competition among business to develop innovative ideas and strategies to lure customers to their product/service.The tremendous changes in the world today also lead to innovation in the world of animation. One cannot expect to get desired results by publishing the same old style of animated videos repeatedly. To give what the market wantsone need to be aware of the latest trends& techniques.Cisco predicts that the internet will surpass 1 million minutes of video each second by 2022.Media digitalization began several decades earlier and over the past 2 decades, when internetaccess has entered, every home and every palm has a very quick and efficient forum. The animation trends are always changing, which is the reason one need to be aware of the market, so that the academicians can prepare the students for the industrial needs.

The programme concluded fruitfully and totally 6 faculty members were benefitted through this event.

Career Guidance Program on “Opportunities in Gaming Industry”

D.P. Roy ChoudhuryAssociation, Department of Animation, organized a Career Guidance Program on “Opportunities in Gaming Industry” on 23.09.2022 at11.00am in Seminar Hall of our college premises.

The Program started with the prayer song and the welcome address was delivered by Mr. P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Asst. Prof., Dept. of Animation. Mr. Rajesh, Technical Head, Scopik Edutech Pvt. Ltd., acted as the resource person for the day. The main objective of the event is to create an awareness on the Opportunities in the Gaming Industry of recent times. He insisted that Gaming is not only one of the India’s fastest growing markets but also a popular career path for a large team of youth of varied educational backgrounds. Specialists of game art are in high demand all over the world.One needs to be skilled and insightful to make it a full-time lucrative career. However, the gaming industry is vast and has lot of offers in terms of stable career opportunities. He concluded that the students should look for the best career options that suits them and make use of the gaming industry which is full of opportunities.

The Program ended fruitfully and totally 81 students were benefitted through this program.

“Workshop on Advanced 3D Character Modeling”

Department of Animation organized a two day “workshop on Advanced 3D Character Modeling” for III Year Animation Students on 17th & 18th September, 2021 from 09:00 A.M. to 04.20 P.M. to improve the students’ skill for placement. Mr.D.Prabhu, our Alumni (2014-17 Batch), who is currently working as CG and Rigging Artist, TATA Elxsi, Bangalore was the Chief Guest. Mr.M.Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Assistant Professor, Welcomed the gathering. Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head (i/c) cum Assistant Professor delivered the Key note address. The students were taught on modeling techniques and rigging process. Totally 46 students were benefited.

Workshop on “Effective Tips & Tricks in the VFX Industry”

D.P. Roy Choudhury Association, Department of Animation, organized a “Workshop on Effective Tips & Tricks in the VFX Industry”on 03.09.2022 in Animation Academic Lab– I of our college premises.

The programme started with the prayer song and the welcome address was given by Mr. P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Asst. Prof., Dept. of Animation.
Mr. Mathan, VFX Team Lead, B2H Studio, Chennai,was invited as the chief guestof the day.The demand for skilled VFX Artists is constantly on the raise.

This workshop gave an advanced training on the latest VFX software and plug-ins in which the students can develop their skills required for the topmost recruiters. The session facilitatedthe students with themeaningful tips & tricksthat honethe VFX skills further. He stressed on the idea, “Junior Artists are like sponges. Your higher-ups are not expecting you to know everything. In fact, companies are most likely hiring you based on your simple skills being done exceptionally well. Remember that technical skills are significant but not everything – your social skills will really enable you to set off in this industry.  Above all, remembering to really get a firm grasp on yourself prior entering these industries will help you immensely!”

The Programme ended fruitfully and totally 28 students were benefitted through this program.

Department of Animation organized a Professional Training Programme on“Training of Teachers for the Visual Effects Industry”on 03.09.2022 atChroma Studio of Animation Department, SLCS.

The programme started with the prayer song and the welcome address was proposed by Mr. P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Asst. Prof., Dept. of Animation.
Mr. Mathan, VFX Team Lead, B2H Studio, Chennai,was the chair personof the event. He stated that the VFX industry has been growing by leaps and bounds over the years, with technology playing a major role in its growth. The VFX industry have been growing rapidly due to a sustained demand ensuring a promising future for those who are specialized in them. He insisted that the academicians should always help the artists and technologists in the industryto reach their full potential by empowering them with the tools and workflows needed to adapt to the global pipeline. He also discussed some advanced plug-ins which is an essential part to be known by the students when they are appearing for the recruitment process.

The Programme ended fruitfully and totally 5faculty membersbenefitted through this program.
