CYBER SAFETY FOR STUDENTS

The Department of Computer Science (SSS), as a part of its Extension Activity (SLCS – Samaaj Seva), organized a program “Cyber Safety for Students” on 25.02.2022 at Amudham Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai. Five students from II B.Sc CS (SSS) participated and created awareness on the following topics such as mobile security, social media security, e-commerce security, online game security. They have interacted with the school students and have shown a demo on phishing attack. Finally they explained the “SafeDot” mobile application for the smart phone safety. Mrs.V.Gayathri, Assistant Professor, Dept. of CS (SSS) accompanied the students. Overall 137 students from the school got benefitted by involving themselves in this activity.

SLCS-Smaaj Seva – Extension Activity on “Swatchh Bharat

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a one day cleaning activity at Nedumadurai temple, Madurai District on 24.02.2022 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.30pm. 23 Students and 2 faculty from Marine catering and hotel Management took part in this programme and   created awareness among the rural people by providing pamphlets to the people and suggested  them to create Green Environment in their surroundings under the guidance of Mrs. D.Vijaya ,President of Nedumadurai village. As a part of the program, they started walking along the street, collected plastic wastes, and cleaned the Nedu Madurai temples. When they returned they disposed the wastes in the trash cans. Students actively participated in the program by giving their full support and made this program a great success. The people in the village appreciated the efforts made by the students and the coordinator.

Confidence Building Program for Slow Learners.

 A confidence building program called vidhya vikas for slow learners was conducted on 24 February 2022 in the seminar hall from 1:35 to 3:15pm. The resource person was Dr.M.Karuppasamy, Special Educator, KRS School. He addressed the students mentioning real life examples of great achievers and said that confidence has to be built from within. He also spoke about the ways and means to concentrate on a given task. He said that only practice; we attain confidence and master the task. He insisted adapting to changes and said that it will solve problems. In total   60 students from various programmes benefitted from the Program.

CONSOLIDATED MENTOR MENTEE MEETING REPORT

As imparting education involves the holistic development and maturity of the students, we at Department of Networking follow a mentoring system that incorporates  a multidimensional approach. The mentoring  begins at the time the student is admitted to the department and goes until they reach the final semester .The individual teacher conducts meeting  with their mentees. Mentor Mentee  ratio of the department is 1:13

Every week the mentor mentee meetings are conducted in day order V and the minutes are recorded properly. In those meeting,  mentors   give information  about  the discipline and strict adherence to the time inside the college campus.The faculty members  share the importance of mentoring and encourage  the students to involve in Co-curricular and Extracurricular activities of our college.  The mentees have been advised to write their Class, Internal and End Semester Examinations Well. Likewise students’ grievances  had been resolved on time in most of the cases and in some cases it was forwarded to the authority  concerned and the principal .

On the whole,  the Department of  Networking  organized the Mentor Mentee Meetings in a smooth manner through out the semester

 

FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING – AN ADMINISTRATIVE TRAINING PROGRAM

                      Herbert William Henrich Association of Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized “Fire Fighting Training”, as an administrative training program for security officers in our college campus on 22/02/2022. Mr.V.Dhamotharan & Mr.R.Brameshwaran from the Fire & Industrial Safety department demonstrated the classes on fire fighting methods. They clearly explained the pass method of fire extinguishing and security officers had trained individually to put off the fire using fire extinguisher. Totally, 10 securities were benefited through this fire fighting training program.

Seminar on “Security Approaches in Database Management System”

On 22nd February, 2022, the Technofest Association, Department of Computer Science (Security System Specialization) organized a Seminar on “Security Approaches in Database Management System” for II year students (Batch: 2020 – 23) through video conferencing via google meet. Dr. E. Ramanujam, Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Engineering, Christ University was the resource person. Ms. A. Yuvashree of II CS welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal presided over the session through the presidential address. The Vice Principal, Dr. K. Archunan and Dr. S. Priya, Dean – Academics delivered the felicitation address. The special address was given by Mrs. N. Anuradha, Head of the Department. Mr. S. R. Aathithyan of II CS, introduced the resource person.The resource person, Dr. E. Ramanujam started the session with the brief explanation of the core concepts of Relational Database Management System. He insisted on the importance of Security and its implementation through his presentation. He also explained ten ways to implement security for database. The students were briefed with the career opportunities as Database Administrators and the future scope.This seminar is organized in relevance to the courses Relational Database Management System and Database Security by Mrs. K. P. Maheswari and Mrs. G. Lavanya, Assistant Professors of Computer Science department, Totally 51 students participated in the seminar and got benefitted.  Finally vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. B. Ajay Mathesh of II CS(SSS).

Extension Activity (SLCS-Samaaj-Seva) – Awareness program on Government Saving Schemes

              The Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) Cuentas Association organized an extension activity (SLCS-Samaaj-Seva), “Awareness Program on Government Insurance Schemes” on 22.02.2022 for the people in Eliyarpathy village. The students of the Department created awareness on various government schemes available for Cattle breeding and agricultural activities to the farmers in the village. Also elaborated central government saving scheme – Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Scheme. Totally 5 students of II B.Com (B & I) were involved in this program under the guidance of the Mr.R.Dhamotharan, Assistant Professor, Economics and nearly 30 people got benefitted by this program.

SEMINAR ON INTERNATIONAL MOTHERS’ LANGUAGE DAY

Department of Tamil, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science commemorated the International Mothers’ Language day through a seminar on 21.02.2022. Mr. A. Vinoth, Member, National Committee for Minorities Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India and Dr. M. G. Sethuraman, Professor, Department of Chemistry, The Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, were the Chief Guests for the celebration. Mrs. N. Selvi, Assistant Professor of Tamil, delivered the welcome address.  Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal presided the presidential address. Dr. K. Archunan, Vice Principal and Dr. S. Priya, Dean-Academics, delivered the felicitation address. Mrs. R. Suganthi Hepzibha, Assistant Coordinator (IQAC) cum Assistant Professor of English, introduced the Chief Guest. The Chief Guests insisted the importance of National & Spiritual devotion. The students were also motivated by the Guests to speak the mother language without the impact of the foreign language. Mrs. H. Geetha, Assistant Professor of Tamil, proposed the vote of thanks. Students dedicated various language songs such as, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Hindi. Totally, 274 students participated and enjoyed the session.

SLCS- Smaaj Seva – an Extension Activity on “International Mother Language Day – “Ancient Tamil Food Habits”

The International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on February 21st to raise the awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as to promote multilingualism. On the occasion of this celebration, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an “Ancient Tamil Food Habits” on 21.2.22 to create awareness among the Nedumadurai school students as a part of an extension activity 5 faculty members and 10 students from the second MC&HM actively participated in it. They educated the school students on Tamil literature linked with ancient cooking methods, traditional spices and herbs used in traditional food which are simple, tasty, and inherently nutritious. They shared the knowledge about the benefits of ethnic foods and its importance of eating such foods among the present generation through this extension activity.

Report on “ Management Day Celebration “

 “Management day” was organised by the “Lakshya” the Department Association of MBA Program on 21st Feb 2022, from 2.15pm to 3.15 pm through Google Meet in F-32 hall. The event was organised to make them learn about Business analytics. Mr. Ananthapalli Gowtham Shankar – Certified Java Professional from WileyNXT- India (P) Ltd was the Guest Speaker of this program. Dr. S. Pugalanthi was the program Co-ordinator. Totally 31 I- MBA students got benefited out of this program.
