Educational Tour at Munnar and Kochin

The Department of Commerce (Hons) ACCA organized a study tour to Kerala from 7.04.2022 to 09.04.2022. 43 students and 3 faculty members participated in the tour. The first part of the tour was a visit to the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Pvt. Ltd., Mattupetty dam, Kundala dam and Eco point which are the most famous tourism destinations in Munnar. We had various fun & adventure activities such as horse riding, boat riding, shooting etc., Later, the tour group visited the Kanan Devan Tea factory. The students got an opportunity to observe the processing of tea leaves and they were explained about the history of tea plantation in the world, first tea plantation in India, importance of tea in our daily life, benefits of green tea, right procedure for preparing tea and its production process etc. Next day, the group travelled to Wonderla. The students enjoyed water slides, Dry rides, Games, Rain dance etc. Wonderla is very famous for India’s largest and tallest Ferris wheel- The Sky Wheel in its park. The tour concluded with the Kochin DJ Boating. The tour was an enriching and memorable experience for both the students and teachers alike.

Educational Tour to Cochin, Kerala

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised an Educational Tour to “Cochin, Kerala” on 08.04.2022 (Friday) to explore the places, culture and food of our neighboring state. The students got an opportunity to visit the tourist places in and around Cochin and gain commercial knowledge through this visit by interacting with the local people. This way of experiential learning motivated the students in initiating startups at tourist places.

Totally, 59 students and 3 faculty members participated in the event and got benefitted. The visit gave us a memorable experience on tourism to Kerala.

ALUMNI INTERACTION ON “GOING ANY WHERE STARTS HERE”

An alumni interaction session on “Going Any where starts here” was organized by FAGAS, an association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Alumni Cell for I&II year students on 08.04.2022 in G14 Classroom at 10.00-10.30am. Ms. M. Yuvareka (Batch 2018-21) studying in M.Sc Food and Nutrition Mother Teresa Women’s University Madurai spoke about possibilities of new domains after completion of Food Science and Processing Management course and also emphasized the importance of communication, leadership and team building skills, career opportunities,  and competencies needed for food processing industry both in public and private. She also focused on participative learning in techno cultural activities like quiz, debates, music etc. Totally 26 students (13 students from I Year &13 students II Year) of our department participated in this interaction session.

Career Counselling session on “Placement opprtunities in medical coding ”

A Career Counselling session on Placement opportunities in Medical coding was organized by FAGAS, an association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Career Counselling cell for 40 students of I, II and III year FSPM students on 08.04.2022 in seminar hall Ms. Regina Elizabeth, coordinator in IDA medical coding was the trainer of this session and spoke about the Medical coding is an upcoming in-demand field in the stream of Healthcare Administration. Among the various upcoming career opportunities; Medical Coding is also a very good career option for the youth of our country. With the growth of the various sectors, healthcare sector is also witnessing a sudden growth in our country. The session mainly focus and enhance the student skill regarding  how to focus on the chosen career and what are the efforts to be put in to make that dream true. The students actively participated and interacted with the expert.

Outreach Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) – “Mudra Scheme Awareness”

Lakshaya an Association of the Department of MBA, organised an Outreach Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) “Mudra Scheme Awareness” on 8th April 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at AlampattiVillage in Maduri District. The event was organised to create awareness about Mudra Scheme. The students briefed the procedure for applying loan under the scheme. 33 first year MBA students participated in the activity. Dr. S. Sekar and Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep were the coordinators.

Farewell Day Programme

            II & I year B.Com (B&I) students organized a  Farewell meet for the III B.Com (B&I) Students on 07.04.2022 at our Auditorium. The programme commenced with a Prayer song followed by  the Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Vinothini of I B.Com(B&I), The presidential  address was delivered by Dr.R. Sujatha, Principal, and felicitation address was given by Dr.K.Archunan, Vice-principal and Dr.S.Priya Dean- Academics . Ms. V. Padmavathy Head of The Department. Mr R.Damotharan, Mrs.R.Nithya Kalyani, and Mrs.G.Karthika conducted  this Session.  Mrs.V.Padmavathy, Head of the Department conveyed the best wishes to all the outgoing students. Many games were conducted by I & II year B.Com (B&I) students to entertain the  III year students.  The programme ended with a  national anthem.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Extension Activity on Planting saplings

The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation Department conducted an Extension Activity at Eliyarpathi on 07.04.2022, Thursday, between 09:30 A.M. and 12:30 P.M. Totally 30 students from I& II Year B.Sc., Animation and 2 Faculty members participated in this event.The students were informed about how trees and plants are linked to our basic needs for good food to eat and clean air to breathe. The following points were shared to the students

  1. Trees give us clean water to drink, air to breathe, shade and food to human beings, animals and plants.
  2. Tree provide habitats for numerous species of fauna and flora, firewood for cooking, materials for buildings and places of spiritual, cultural and recreational importance.

Each student was given with one sapling and asked to plant it. The students enjoyed and eagerly participated. Mr.N.Naveendra Kumar, Asst. Prof., and Mr.S.Saravanan, Asst. Prof., accommpanied the students. Totally 30 different varieties of saplings were planted by the students.

Seminar on “Evaluation of Nutraceutical foods in active packaging”

         To commemorate “World Health Day – 7th April”, FAGAS  Association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management& Health and Nutrition Club jointly  organized an seminar  on “Evaluation of Nutraceutical foods in active packaging “on  07.04.2022 between 11 am  and 12 pm at SLCS Seminar hall .Ms.Shivpoornima Freelance Nutritionist was the resource person of this session briefly explained  the spirit of world health day and our students  gathered the information about the importance of nutraceuticals food in relation to health .Twenty six students (13 students from I year & 13 students from II year) of  our department  actively participated  interacted with the expert.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Outreach Programmeon “Feed the kids”

The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation Departmentconducted an outreach programme “Feed the kids” on 06.04.2022, Wednesday at vision school (schools for differently abled students) at Perungudi, Madurai. The students of I & II Year B.Sc., Animation and PG Diploma in Animation Techniques students came forward to provide the lunch for 30 students studying in the school. Mr. N. Naveendra Kumar and Mr. S. Praveen kumar Asst. Professors of the department accompanied the students.Students were provided with nutritious food.
