PARENTS- TEACHERS MEETING

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized Parents- Teachers Meeting for the first and second year students (70 students) on 28.4.2022 at 3.00 P.M.  It was held on a digital platform through Google meet. The meeting was organized under the guidance of Mr.C.Suresh Kumar, Head and Mr. K.Perumal Kannan, PTA coordinator. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss student’s performance and devise ways to enrich their learning experience. The class in charge announced the first year student’s attendance percentage and I semester Mark , II Year  II internal mark details and also discussed on the preparation for semester examination. The PTA meeting ended with the conclusion that the progress and development of the students depend on the joint effort of both the parents and teachers together.

VAC – Accounts Pro-Computerised Financial Accounting – Tally.ERP9

The Department of  B.Com (Banking and Insurance) conducted a Value Added Course on ‘Accounts Pro-Computerised Financial Accounting – Tally.ERP9’ to the III Year students. The training was conducted by SSI Institutes, Madurai from 23.04.2022 to 28.04.2022 in our computer lab. The experts covered topics related to computerised accounting, E-taxation and GST. The entire session was very interactive and effective. 65 students of III B.Com got benefitted from this Course.

Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj seva) on “Importance of value added products

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj seva) at Kavanur entitled Importance of value added products” to the farmers on 28.04.2022.  Thirteen students of I Year FSPM educated the farmers by interacting with them on the use and benefits of value added products.  They insisted on exploring the current farming practices followed by the farmers involved in paddy seed production, their reason for the adoption of seed production and the constraints faced by them. Totally 13 students of FSPM  participated in this outreach program.

Campus Placement Drive

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management  conducted Campus recruitment drive on 26th and 27th April, 2022. Panel of five members, Mr. AJEETHKUMAR, [HR Manager ], Mr. Khannan CKM [Food and Beverage Manager] from Amika Hotel , Madurai  Mr. Mahendiran [HR Manager] ,Mr. Sundram  [HR manager] and Mr. Arul Karthik [Executive House Keeper Manager]  from Hotel Somerset, Chennai,  came for searching suitable talents by conducting  interview. Totally 50 students from MC&HM Department actively participated. After that, Group Discussion was conducted. Students who qualified  in the group discussion were then interviewed personally by the Interview Panel team Members. Finally 14 students got the placement confirmation from the recruiter’s team.

Students are happy because they know that working with Hotel Somer Set, Chennai and Hotel Amika, Madurai will be  the right environment to grow and achieve their career goals. Panel members are very keen in conducting Campus recruitment drive next year also.

Our Principal, Dr. R.Sujatha , motivated and supported in every aspect for the successful conduct of this campus drive and quoted how such programs were essential for boosting the confidence of students. Mr.C.Suresh Kumar, Head of the Department and Mr.E.Jacob Jebaraj , In charge of Placement   have taken efforts for the successful completion  of the program.

Library Managing Cell

The World Book Copyright Day is celebrated every year on April 23. This day coincides with the death anniversary of well – known English playwright William Shakespeare. The day is proudly celebrated by UNESCO to promote reading books, publishing and copyright awareness. The Library Managing Cell along with Readers’ Hub organized a seminar to commemorate World Book and Copyright Day on 27/4/2022. The first and second year students of all the UG programmes attended the session. Prof.Mahendra Pandiyan, Principal in charge of Maragatham Arts and Science College, Nilakottai acted as the resource person. In his address to the students, he said that Books play a quintessential role in every student’s life by introducing them to a world of imagination, providing knowledge of the outside world, improving their reading, writing and speaking skills as well as boosting memory and intelligence. He also focused the following points in his speech.

  • Books are our lifelong friends.
  • Reading books help us in sharpening our memory.
  • They enlighten us about our past events.
  • Reading books helps us to get relieved from stress.

He also guided the students regarding the choice of books and authors and advised everyone to buy books for reading instead of using the photocopy version of the books.

Administrative Training on “Geotag Photography”

The department of Visual Communication conducted Administrative Training on “Geotag Photography”for all the Non-Teaching and Administrative staff members on 26th, April 2022 at 03.30p.m in S-56(Editing lab). A total of 7 members participated in this event.

The technical session was handled by Mr. S. Gokula Krishnan,Assistant Professor, Dept. of Visual Communication.He explained about the uses and benefits of Geo-Tag photography and its need in an educational institution.Android and iOS apps to capture geotag photographs.

The Nettings Association of the Department of Networking organized an Administrative Training Program for the non teaching staff members of SLCS on 25/04/2022 at Seminar hall. Mr.M.Athigopa1,HoD/Networking explained the steps to be followed to delete web history and chrome browsing history in the mobile phones. Through this session ,non teaching staff members gained a basic knowledge on how to secure mail account by adding or updating account recovery options ,how to manage passwords, protect their password from hackers and how one can limit the storage space by deleting google web-browser history and google search history.They also learnt how to handle phishing emails and avoid gratuitous situation. Totally 13 members were benefitted by this program.

Outreach program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Health and hygienic practises among the Street vendors”

FAGAS, an Association of the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an Outreach program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) through “Health and hygiene practices among the Street vendorson 24.04.2022 at Thirumangalam. Thirteen students of I Year FSPM gave a brief explanation about the health and hygienic practices including environmental causes around the stall, personal hygiene, and food storage facilities at the stall, utensil maintenance, and licensing among the street vendors. Finally the students counselled the street vendor’s that street food not only provides convenience for many people but also the livelihood for millions of low income people, making a great contribution to the economy of many developing countries.
