Filed Trip-Keezhadi, Sivaganga District

On 25.2.23, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management went on a field visit to Keezhadi, Sivaganga District, with the second and first-year students (40 students). The students are aware of the Keezhadi excavation, which was carried out by a team of archaeologists from Tamil Nadu and Kerala and discovered a Neolithic burial site dating back to 4900 BC. The excavations were carried out in Keezhadi village near Madurai in Tamil Nadu between 2013 and 2015. The excavation also revealed human habitation during the Sangam period (Sangam-age settlement). There is evidence of burial under mounds or cairns containing pottery vessels and other objects made from stone slabs or clay, and they found several cemeteries with human remains and animal bones, besides other artifacts such as beads, pottery, and stone tools. Students will gain a better understanding of Tamil civilization and have a memorable experience as a result of this field trip.

: SLCS- Samaaj Seva – an outreach Program on – “Share the Meal” – Donate the Food to the School children, Surabhi Trust, Kariapatti.

 HEN Association, Marine Catering and Hotel Management and Yuva Club (Ministry of Tourism)  organized SLCS-Samaaj Seva: an outreach activity- “Share the Meal” – Donate Food to the School children, at Surabhi Trust, Kariyapatti on 25.02.2023. Faculty members of the MCHM department and 13 students prepared around 100 packs of food and served it to the school children. Trust managers conveyed their sincere thanks to the college management, faculty members and students who contributed food items for the school children.

Intra Institutional Innovation Competition “SLCS Sandhai – 2023 -Mega Sales Day”

On 24.02.2023, Marine Catering and Hotel Management and EDC cell jointly organized an Intra Institutional Innovation Competition “SLCS Sandhai – 2023 -Mega Sales Day” at our college premises. The resource person, Mr. P. Jeya Selvam, Asst. director, Br. MSME Development Institute and Facilitation Office, Madurai, spoke to the students on the fundamentals of marketing, provided some recommendations for entrepreneurship skill development, and advised the students to be familiar with the product, financial viability and Break Event Point analysis. He discussed his own experience and the benefits of starting own business. He continued by outlining how to become well-versed in supply chain management and adviced on how to foster future start-up entrepreneurship. On sales day, the students marketed and sold a variety of goods including stationery, consumer foods, mobile accessories and were able to make profit.

VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “ACCOUNTING ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES”

Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “Accounting Assessment Techniques from 14.02.2023 to 23.02.2023 at 114 of Annexure Block. Prof. Nandini Balaji ACCA, Faculty, International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), Bangalore, acted as the course expert. The purpose of this value added course is to assist the students to discharge their responsibilities effectively to ensure that suitable assessment procedures and check whether the candidates admitted to the membership are appropriately qualified. This assessment course considers the key concepts, summarized evaluation, non – prescriptive fashion, relevant assessment to test different capabilities and competencies, on all aspects. Totally, 13 students of III ACCA participated and got benefitted through this course.

Career Counselling session on “Occupational Prospects in Food Technology”

Department of Food Science and Processing Management and the Alumni Cell jointly organized a Career Counselling session on “Occupational Prospects in Food Technology” for the students of I & II year FSPM on 20.02.2023 at 9:00 a.m. in G12 hall of our college premises. Ms. R. Gunalini (Batch: 2019-22) acted as the speaker for the session.  The alumni briefed on the current trends in food processing industries. She discussed the overview of Food processing and career growth as Food Scientist, Technologist, Nutritional Therapist and Quality Assurance Manager. The alumni also interacted with the students and gave career guidance regarding higher studies and placements. Finally, valuable guidance is given personally to the students who interacted after the discussion.  Totally, 19 students participated in this interactive session.

Chhatrapati Sivaji Birthday Celebration

The TechnoFest Association and  Department of Computer Science (SSS) jointly celebrated the birth day of  Chhatrapati Sivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Kingdom on 20.02.2023 at the  Seminar Hall. The celebration started with the welcome address delivered by S. Gokulakannan of II B.Sc CS (SSS), Mrs.D.Padmapriya, Head of the Department, delivered a speech to commemorate the life of Sivaji Maharaj.  Dr. R.Bagavathi Lakshmi, AP of CS delivered a felicitation address and insisted the importance of student’s participation in the association activities.

In order to celebrate Chhatrapati Sivaji’s birth day, the department organized various competitions such as Elocution, Drawing and Debate for the students of I & II B.Sc CS (SSS).  Totally 88 students of I & II B.Sc CS (SSS) participated in their event.  Finally the session ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. B. Bhargavi  of I B.Sc CS  ‘ A’(SSS).

Out Door Catering

Department of MC&HM gave an opportunity for the students to do an outdoor catering program (ODC) on 18.02.2023 at Courtyard by Marriott, Madurai. They learnt various operation procedures, work place & mise-en place preparation, buffet arrangement, banquet table setting, conference hall operations, and many modern techniques. This opportunity motivated and gave hands-on practice to the students.  The students were able to discover their career interests and gain valuable experience. Totally, 7 students participated in this ODC program.

TOTEM 2023- A State level Cultural Meet

On 17.02.2023, students from Marine Catering and Hotel Management competed in the “TOTEM 2023- A State level Cultural Meet” Competition hosted by Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College and Theni-Anantham, Madurai. Mr. A. Kasinathan, II MCHM, actively participated in the Vegetable Carving competition. He received II Prize and a participation certificate. This competition motivated and encouraged the students and also made it a memorable experience.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY

Department of Fire and industrial safety organized a Demonstration session on “Fire Fighting Techniques Observing National Science day” to the KRS School Students and Staff members on 17.02.2023. The objective of the program is to create awareness to the students on how to control fire accidents and rescue operation and its procedure to reduce the intensity of future disasters. Mr. I. Vivek Ramkumar explained the fire hazards in the workplace and how to act safely in the event of an emergency fire situation; including selecting and using the correct fire extinguishers. He also insisted on ensuring whether the emergency assembly area is accessible and safe for the  school children and staff. Totally, 165 KRS School students benefited through this session.

Exposure Visit to Understand Innovative Strategies adopted at Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited

ZEAL Association of the Department of BBA along with the Institution’s Innovation Council – SLCS, conducted an Exposure Visit to Understand Innovative Strategies adopted at Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited, Kattur, Lalgudi Taluk, Trichirappalli District on 15.02.2023. Mr. V. Ramachandran, Senior Manager – Technical, Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited, acted as a guide. He explained the various steps including crushing, extraction of juice, clarification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation and refining involved in the processHe explained that through innovative double refining methods, they get clear crystals of sugar with premium quality.  In total, 2 Students from II BBA and 38 Students from I BBA eagerly participated in the program.
