Service to Kuruvithurai Perumal Temple” – Cholavanthan, Madurai

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Outreach program Activity at Kuruvithurai Perumal Temple” – Cholavanthan, Madurai under “SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA” on 16.02.2022. We were extended warm greetings for the contribution of our all ACCA Students to the “Sri Chitraradha Vallaba Perumal Temple”, Kuruvithurai. The coordinator Mr. Nagarajan of kuruvithurai temple took the initiative and assigned them with task. Our ACCA students cleaned and did the chores of the work within the temple and created awareness regarding covid-19 to the visitors of the temple. All the students were doing their assigned work fervently. Guru Bhagwan-Jupiter constructed a place for his son on Vaigai River and performed penance on Lord Narayana. Hence, the place is called Guruvithurai-Kuruvithurai. Lord Narayana, pleased with his penance appeared before Guru on a Rath of aesthetic beauty and rescued his son Kasa. Hence, the lord is known as Chithiraradha Perumal – Perumal with a Rath of aesthetic beauty. The students were happy to spend that day at the temple. Though the time spent in the temple was just a few hours, however, they experienced peace of mind and spiritual awakening. The temple authorities expressed gratitude to college management for taking the initiative and helping the students in keeping the temple clean. 50 students of I, II and III year ACCA visited and rendered service in the temple precincts’.

“Service to Gandhi Memorial Museum”, Madurai

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Outreach program Activity at “Gandhi Memorial Museum”, Madurai under “SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA” on 14.02.2022. We were extended warm greetings by the members of National Museum. The coordinator of the Gandhi museum Mr. Nanda Rao took the charge and the assigned some tasks. The students were divided into a team. Some of them were asked to write the certificates, the others were told to arrange the books, newspapers and clean the library area and the rest were told to count the sculptures. Everyone was doing their work enthusiastically and had completed the task by 12.50pm. The coordinator briefed the history of Gandhi museum. The exhibits & artifacts are on Gandhi & India’s independent movement, with many photos depicting his life. At the end of the session they took some photos.

The incharge of the museum was overwhelmed by our presence and our service. They were happy to spend that day in the museum. Though the time spent with them was just a few hours, however, it taught us the lesson for a lifetime. At, last Mr. A.Raja, Assistant Professor thanked the Museum Coordinator and in charges for having given the wonderful opportunity to visit the museum. 50 students of I, II and III year ACCA visited and served them.

Service to Old Age Home”, Rojavanam Madurai

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Outreach program Activity at Rojavanam Old Age Home”, Uthangudi, Madurai under “SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA” on 09.02.2022. We were extended warm greetings. We were able to provide some grains and grocery items to the inmates of old age home. We observed that there were two types of people, one who were abandoned and the others were suffering from some sort of disabilities. No matter what the cause was, what made us to think most was their age. They were longing for love and affection. The old age people were very compassionate and friendly. They were happy throughout the day with their beautiful smiles and didn’t reflect their problems even for a second. To break their monotony, our students rendered very good service. Later our Students addressed the inmates as “Thaatha/Paati”, and had a long happy conversations with them. The day turned out to be fruitful with real enjoyment. The head of the home was overwhelmed by our presence and our small contribution. They were happy to spend that day with us. Though the time spent with them was just a few hours, however, it taught us the lesson for a lifetime. 13 students of our I, II and III year ACCA visited and served them.

VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “MONEY MANAGEMENT SERVICES”

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “MONEY MANAGEMENT SERVICES” from 03.01.2022 to 07.02.2022 through online. The course was resourced by Mr. Utkarsh Upadhyay, ISDC, BangaloreA lecture was delivered on the role and importance of the finance function, basic finance management knowledge and effectively using standard business terminology. All the III Year ACCA students (15 students) participated in this course.

 

 

Student Achievement in CMA Exam

Ms. K.Sneha, Second year student of B.Com., (Hons’) ACCA, successfully passed the Foundation level examination conducted by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (CMA) on 28.01.2022. She is also appearing for ACCA papers and CMA intermediate papers. Her academic performance is highly appreciable and career guidance is given by our Professors and Principal. The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA appreciated the remarkable performance of Ms. K.Sneha in the CMA Courses.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT SAMANAR HILLS AND DINAMALAR

Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Industrial Visit to the Dinamalar daily newspaper printing unit and Office on 07th January 2022. The day was begun with trekking to Samanar hills at Kilakuyilkudi, Madurai. The most famous Madurai writer Chithirai Veethikaran alias Mr. Kumar gave his valuable speech about Samanar hills by throwing lights on the historical background of Samanar hills, its ancient trade routes and its traditional link with old Madurai societies. Then the students were taken to the printing unit of Dinamalar at Kappalur, Madurai and the program came to an end at the Dinamalar Office at DSP Nagar, By-pass Road, Madurai. This industrial visit helped the students to understand the process involved in editing the news, its process to final printing form. Our students were aware of the newspaper production and the importance of news reading. 26 students of our I, II and III year ACCA visited these places.

Singing Competition for Pongal Celebration – 2022

Solo Singing Competition was organized by the department of MBA and Commerce (Honours) ACCA as a part of Pongal Celebration on 07.01.2022 at F32 of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai.  16 students from various departments took part in the competition. Welcome address was given by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Asst. Prof. & Head (i/c.,) of Commerce (Honours) ACCA. The event was started with a beautiful song “Sri Chakkara Raja Rajeswari….(Lalithambigai Song)” by the Judge Mrs. G.Lavanya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science. Then, the participants sang various Tamil songs such as “Tamizhukum Amuthendru Per, Madu Meikum Kanne, Prapo Ganapathy, Puthu Vellai Mazhai, etc.,” based on the theme தமிழர் பண்பாடு. At the end the judge announced the name list of the winners of this singing competition. The first prize was awarded to Ms. C.Aarthy of II Year MBA, the second prize was awarded to Ms. D.U.Janani of II Year FSPM and the Third prize was awarded to Ms. S.Madhu Bala of II Year Animation. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. S.Pugalanthi, Associate Professor, MBA.

 

SEMINAR ON “FUTURE PLAN FOR INVESTMENT”

Department of B.Com (Honours) ACCA and Trade Club jointly organized a Seminar on “Future Plan for Investment” on 05th January 2022 at Audio Visual Hall of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai. The program was commenced with prayer song. Special address was given by our Respected Vice Principal Dr. K. Archunan. Key note address was delivered by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head Incharge / B.Com. (Honours) ACCA. The Resource Person Mr. M. Kumar Rajaraman, Financial Advisor, Mutual Funds and General Insurance, Madurai shared his experience to the students and motivated them to think about various investment plans for their future. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr. A.Raja, Assistant Professor / B.Com. (Honours) ACCA and Trade Club Co-ordinator. 74 students participated and got benefitted by attending this program.

CULFEST 2021

Royal Chartered Association of B.Com (Honours) ACCA organised CULFEST 2021 on 28th December at Audio Video hall, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai. The program started with a prayer. After the prayer we had many events such as Paper presentation, Storytelling, Elocution, Debate, Quiz and Musical Chair. We also had a few cultural events like Dancing, Singing, Antakshari and Dumb Charades. Paper presentation was held on various topics like Crypto Currency, Addiction, Depression, Social Media etc. The storytelling competition was held on various topics like Honesty, Patience, Equality and Hard Work. In the elocution competition topics of problems related to Empowerment of Indian Economy, Brain Drain and Migration of Skilled Labours, etc. were discussed, which helped our students to understand the significance of education and responsibities of its citizens. Students exhibited their talents in the above mentioned events. At the end, Prizes and certificates were given to the winners by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head Incharge of the Department and Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. A.Raja, Assistant Professor. A total of 45 students participated in this association program.

Student Achievement in Sports

Ms. S.Sivasri, first year student of B.Com., (Hons’) ACCA, was successfully Selected for South Zone Inter University Chess Tournament. She got over all second place by competing 77 players from 25 various colleges from 09.12.2021 to 10.12.2021 at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. She had already got 30th place in Common wealth competitions in all over the world. Her sports activity and also academic performance are highly appreciable and career guidance is continuously given by our Professors, Physical Education Director, Principal and Management of our esteemed Institution of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science. The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA appreciated her and extended best wishes for the remarkable performance of Ms. S.Sivasri in the sports activities and also for her career growth.
