The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management conducted Board of Studies Meeting via online mode on 17.03.2022 at 2.00 p.m. Dr. R.Kannan, Ph.D, Professor & Research Guide, Centre for Tourism and Hotel Management, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, has chaired the session as the University Nominee, Mr.V. Ramachandran. Teaching Assistant, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Alagappa University karaikudi, has been invited as the Academic Expert, Mr. Mr. Jabaseelan Moses. Human Resource Manager, Taj Tirupati, as the Industrial Expert and Mr. N. Sarandass, participated as an Alumnus. Mr. C. Sureshkumar, Head of the Department represented the department as the Chairperson along with his faculty members. Besides, a Parent and a Student have been invited to share their valid feedback and recommendations for framing the syllabus for the academic year 2022-23 Odd Semester.
AWARENESS PROGRAM ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES
The Internet club and Techie Quest club jointly celebrated the WORLD TELECOMMUNICATION DAY on 17th May, 2022 and organized a AWARENESS PROGRAM ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES. Mr.S.Sugumar, II B.Sc FSPM., Student member of Internet club, delivered the welcome address. The students of Internet club and Techie quest club participated in the session. Mr.V.Deepan Chakkaravarthy, Instructor, Department of Networking addressed the gathering. In his speech, he explained the use of information technologies and their importance to stay healthy, connected, and independent on a physical, emotional, and financial level. Further, he elaborated on FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) which helps knowledge enrichment of the student’s .The session helped the students to get aware of technologies such as Network Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Data Analytics which are used in real time environment. Totally 25 students (12 students of Internet club and 13 students of Techie quest club) were benefitted by attending the session. Ms.K.Rekshambigai of I B.Com (Hons), Student member of Techie quest club, delivered the vote of thanks. This interactive session was useful to the students.
27th Annual Day Celebration
Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science (SLCS) organized 27th Annual Day celebration on 16th March,2022 at our college auditorium at 2 pm.The programme commenced with a prayer song .This was followed by a welcome address given by Dr.S.Priya,Dean-Academics. During the address she elaborately introduced all the Heads of the Departments highlighting their personal traits and their contribution for the development of the department.Dr. R.Sujatha, Principal delivered the felicitation address. She dwelt upon the aspirations and overwhelming expectations of the students who made a mark in the competitions and got covetous positions and prizes in various competitions. Next Dr.K.Archunan gave a special address elucidating upon the importance of discipline and regard for the elders and teachers among the students who are going to be the pillars of our nation. The Annual Day report was read out by the principal. The Heads of the Departments were also requested to distribute the prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted through clubs.The competitionssuchasDrawing,Photography,FacePainting,TamilTranslation,VaarthaiVilayattu,Aringarai Arivom,Tongue Twister,Poster Making, Brain Games, Mime, Singing (solo), Rangoli Mehandi were organized through various clubs of our college. Apart from this, the best outgoing students, Proficiency in academics from various departments and best volunteers representing NSS,RRC and Eco club students were given away prizes for their contributions. The students were honored for clearing their International Certifications organized by various departments. Vote of thanks was given by Shahithya.K, II B.Sc CS (SSS). The programme came to an end with the national anthem.

Apart from this, the best outgoing students, Proficiency in academics from various departments and best volunteers representing NSS, RRC and Eco club students’ received prizes for their contributions. The students were honored for clearing their International Certifications through value added courses, organized by various departments. The vote of thanks was given by Shahithya.K, II B.Sc CS (SSS) Chairman of students’ forum. The program came to an end with the National Anthem.
NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON“NEW TRANSFORMATION IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION”
The Department of Commerce (HONOURS & ACCA) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted a National level workshop on “NEW TRANSFORMATION IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION” on the eve of celebrating Indian Accounting Association Foundation Day on 15.03.2022 (Tuesday). The workshop was started with the welcome address given by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head of the Department, Commerce (ACCA) and the Presidential address was given by the Principal Dr. R. Sujatha.
Dr.A.Mayil Murugan, Professor of The Madhura College, Dr.Rosy Godwin, Professor of Lady Doak College and Dr.Harjit Singh, Professor of The Amity University were the key speakers of the program. They shared information on recent trends and transformation in Accounting Practice. They also shared information on market expectation from the current accounting graduates.
Totally, 248 students and 12 Faculty members from SLCS and other colleges participated and got benefited by this workshop. The resource person cited some real life examples of various skills related to new transformation in accounting education. Students were given ample opportunities to exhibit their accounting skills. The programme was ended with Vote of thanks given by Mr. S. Ravi Shankar, Head of Department, Commerce Honours.
SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA ON AWARENESS ON SCOURING OUT OF SYCAMORE OAK TREE (SEEMAI KARUVELA MARAM)
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety, Hebert William Henrich Association jointly organized SLCS SAMAAJ SEVA – an Extension Activity on “AWARENESS ON SCOURING OUT OF SYCAMORE OAK TREE (SEEMAI KARUVELA MARAM)” at Vidathakulam & Virusangulam on 15/03/2022. Our Department faculty members Mr. A. Jaiveer Kumar & Mr. V. Dhamotharan along with I & II year students have conducted the activity.They explained that the tree has deep roots that go several hundred feet deep and suck water from the ground, resulting in water level depletion. Seemai karuvelam does not have a definite height or root length. It varies based on where it grows. The students also explained that barren or land that has not been fertile for a long time is the ideal place for this species to grow. They guided to uproot the hardy species by three different ways of destroying seemai karuvelam. But the only lasting solution is to dig out the root, entirely using machines. There are biological as well as chemical methods to destroy the tree.
The aim of this campaign is to emphasize effects of Seemai karuvela maran and save the ground water. The Village people rendered their Cooperation & the involvement of the faculty and the students were commendable to reach out the maximum number of population in the society.
Totally 2 faculty members and 9 students participated in the event.
Pre-placement training for CUB & CMA CGM placement BBA
A Career counseling programme was organized and conducted by the Department of BBA, for the III Year students of BBA from 10.03.2022 to 15.03.2022. 23 students from BBA Third year participated in this programme
Mr. Balasundar, BSA Academy, Mr. P. Rengaraj, Administrative Officer – Sagar Sandesh and Dr. B. Meenakshi Sundaram, Faculty BBA., counseled the students on the following topics.

Outcome:
- This programme helped the students to appear for the selection process and subsequent interview conducted by the CMA CGM on 03.2022 to 15.03.2022
- This programme also helped the students in guiding them for preplanning training for recruitment.
- Students participated well and obtained the basic knowledge for attending the interview.
Professional Development Program on “Ethical issues in Accounting”
The Department of Commerce (Honours & ACCA) organized a Professional Development Program on “Ethical issues in Accounting” on 15.03.2022 at our Auditorium of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai. The program commenced with a prayer song. The felicitation address was given by our respected Principal, Dr. R.Sujatha. The key note address was delivered by our respected Vice Principal Dr. K.Archunan. The special address was given by our respected Dean Academics, Dr. S.Priya. The Resource Persons of the program was Dr. A.Mayil Murugan, Professor of The Madura College and Dr. Rosy Godwin, Professor of Lady Doak College. They shared their experience to the faculty members and pointed out that ethical improprieties by accountants will be ‘detrimental to society, resulting in distrust by the public and dysfunctions in the economy’. Plus, due to globalisation, the ethical practices of accounting professionals can have worldwide implications. 10 teaching faculty members participated and got benefitted by attending this program.
Industrial visit to Dinamalar
The Department of Commerce B.Com ( B& I) organized an Industrial Visit to Dinamalar on 15.03.2022 for the B.Com (B&I) I Year students. The students visited the Dinamalar daily Factory and observed the processes involved in publishing newspapers. They were accompanied by faculty members Mr. R.Dhamotharan, Asst.Prof of Commerce and Mrs. G. Karthika, Asst.Prof of Commerce. Totally 80 students got benefited through this visit.
Culinary Competitions
The Culinary Club conducted a Culinary Competition on 15.03.2022. The competition was held between 11.00 a.m. and 12.30p.m under the theme “Fireless Cooking”. It was open to all the students of various departments. Students have enrolled their names enthusiastically to the convener for the Culinary Competition. Totally 6 teams (12 students) have participated in this competition. The participants have prepared different delicious dishes and the judgment was given by Mrs.Deepalakshmi, Assistant Professor, FS&PM and Dr.H.Geetha , Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil.
