SAMS FUN FRIDAY

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) hosted its second “Fun Friday” event for the academic year on July 19, 2024. This monthly initiative serves as a dynamic platform for students to showcase their creative talents through various singing and instrumental performances, promoting artistic expression and community engagement within the student body.

The event took place in room S52 from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. A total number of  73 students participated in the event. The gathering commenced with a welcome address by Yogeshwaran S M, a student of III B.Sc. Visual Communication, who effectively set an enthusiastic tone for the proceedings. His remarks encouraged fellow students to take advantage of the opportunity to share their talents and connect with one another in a supportive environment.

Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head cum Assistant Professor of SAMS, addressed the audience, commending the students for their active involvement. He emphasized the importance of such activities in fostering a well-rounded educational experience and highlighted how participation in creative events enhances both personal growth and professional development.

The event featured a diverse array of performances, ranging from vocal solos to instrumental showcases. The encouragement and support demonstrated by the attendees exemplified the collaborative spirit that SAMS aims to cultivate within its community.

The presence of faculty members further contributed to the event’s success, as they engaged with students and provided valuable encouragement throughout the performances. Their involvement reinforced the institution’s commitment to nurturing a holistic educational environment where creativity and collaboration are prioritized.

Employment Opportunities for Cinematography in Film Industry

The School of Animation and Media Studies conducted a Career Counselling Session titled “Employment Opportunities for Cinematography in Film Industry” on 17.09.2024. The session aimed at providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the current trends, skill sets, and career opportunities in cinematography. A total of 13 students participated in the session.

The session was inaugurated by Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head and Assistant Professor of the School of Animation and Media Studies. In his opening remarks, Mr. Kishore Kumar highlighted the importance of such sessions in bridging the gap between academia and industry, emphasizing how vital it is for students to stay updated with evolving industry demands.

The keynote speaker for the session was Mr. A. Karthikeyan, an accomplished alumnus, Freelance Cinematographer and Assistant Professor at Cluster Media College, Coimbatore. With extensive experience in the field, Mr. Karthikeyan delivered an engaging and informative session. He discussed the Current Industry Trends, Required Skill Sets and Potential Career Paths.  He also spoke about freelancing opportunities and how students could explore independent projects to build their portfolios.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students actively engaged with the speaker, asking questions about the challenges and rewards of working in the cinematography field.

Overall, the session was highly informative and well-received by the students, offering them valuable insights into the professional world of cinematography. The event successfully fulfilled its objective of guiding aspiring cinematographers on how to navigate their career paths in the ever-evolving film industry

Beyond the Silver Screen: Exploring Diverse Careers in the Marketing Industry

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) organized a career counselling session titled “Beyond the Silver Screen: Exploring Diverse Careers in the Marketing Industry” on 23rd September 2024. The session was conducted by Mr. Vishnu Senthilprathaban, C.T.O and Creative Head, Vishaan Creators, a renowned creative and marketing agency from Madurai.

A total of 69 students from II B.Sc. Visual Communication (04), III B.Sc. Visual Communication (12), II B.Sc. Animation (23) and III B.Sc. Animation (26) actively took part in the event, which was designed to broaden their understanding of career opportunities within the marketing industry. The speakers from Vishaan Creators provided valuable insights into various sectors such as branding, digital marketing, content creation, social media management, and advertising. They highlighted how the creative skills to be developed in animation, visual storytelling, and multimedia production for crafting compelling marketing campaigns and driving brand narratives.

The session also explored current industry trends, including the rise of digital platforms, influencer marketing, and the integration of animation in online promotions. During the interactive Q&A session, students were able to gain insights into specific career paths, industry expectations, and internship opportunities.

The event equipped the students with the knowledge and skills required for diverse careers, encouraging them to think beyond traditional roles in the media and entertainment industries and explore new fields within marketing and brand development.

 

VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “MONEY MANAGEMENT SERVICES”

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “MONEY MANAGEMENT SERVICES” between 18.12.2023 to 27.12.2023 at Hall No. 116, SLCS Annexure Block. CA Rajiv Rabindran, International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), Bangalore has been invited as the resource person. A lecture was delivered on the role and importance of the finance function, basic finance management knowledge and effectively using standard business terminology. Totally, 45 students of ACCA participated and got benefitted through this course.

VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “FINANCIAL OPERATING STATEMENTS”

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai, organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “FINANCIAL OPERATING STATEMENTS” between 25.09.2023 to 06.10.2023 at Hall No. 116, SLCS Annexure Block. ACCA- Rahul, Faculty, International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), Bangalore has been invited as the course expert. A lecture was given on operating statement which is used to assess a company’s performance and financial position. He also explained financial statement, balance sheets and cash flow statements. Operating statements summarize a company’s revenues and expenses for a given accounting period. This value added course helped to complete the ACCA F7: Financial Reporting knowledge level paper. Totally, 42 students of ACCA participated and got benefitted through this course.

VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORK OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT”

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai and ISDC, Bangalore jointly organized a VALUE ADDED COURSE ON “ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORK OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT”  between 18.01.2024 to 25.01.2024 at Hall No. 116, SLCS Annexure Block. ACCA- Lakshmi Swetha, Faculty, International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), Bangalore, was the instructor of the program. Students were able to evaluate Investment and Financing Decisions; to manage and control the Working Capital and to identify and manage Financial Risk. Totally, 40 students from the department participated and benefitted through this value added course.

“International Accounting Day” Celebration – “Seminar on Challenges in ACCA”

   Royal Charter Association of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized a “Seminar on Challenges in ACCA” in commemoration of “International Accounting Day” on 10.11.2023 at Seminar Hall. The program commenced with a prayer song. The association members hosted the program. The Presidential address was delivered by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head of the Department, Commerce (Honours) ACCA. He informed that, every year on November 10, we celebrate International Accounting Day. The Day of Honour is declared in 1494 when Italian mathematician, Father of Accounting “Luca Bartolomeo de Pacioli” wrote a book with bookkeeping procedures. The Chief Guest, Mr. Punit Kothari ACCA, CEO of SOE Global, Approved learning partner of ACCA, Chennai, briefed on the significance of the celebration and the main objective of pursuing ACCA, and its challenges including: time management, self-discipline, syllabus, exam stress, keeping up with changes, and expenses. Moreover, he added on how to overcome these challenges which included creating a realistic study schedule, revising and practicing consistently, using available resources, such as ACCA-approved study materials and online resources and joining study groups and staying updated on changes in the syllabus and global accounting standards. Totally, 52 students motivated and benefitted through this program.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT DATTATREYA TEXTILES PVT. LTD.,

The Department of Commerce (Hons) ACCA visited Dattatreya Textiles Pvt. Ltd., Madurai on 09.11.2023. During the visit, the students learned about the production process & management, and human resource management practices. They understood the technical aspects of manufacturing yarn and its various designs and quality and the working of the machines used for production. The production planning and scheduling activities were found interesting by the students. They also collected information on the company’s efforts on product innovations, productivity improvement and cost reduction. Totally, 48 students from the first, second and third year along with 2 faculty members visited the factory.

 

ALUMNI INTERACTION

The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA organized an Alumni Interaction on “Strategies to Approach ACCA Exam” at Hall No. 116, SLCS Annexure Block on 05.03.2024 in Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai. Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head of the department delivered the key note address. Ms.Kothai Andal, an alumnus (Batch 2019-22) of the department of ACCA, has been invited as a distinguished alumnus for the program. The alumni interaction was designed to guide and motivate the students to take up the correct careers with full seriousness and in the right spirit. To create awareness about upcoming career opportunities, the students were motivated accordingly.

Around 45 students attended the program. Few of the questions from the audience were taken up by the speakers during the Q & A session. The variety and range of questions raised show that the participants took an active part in the program.

PARENTS TEACHERS MEET

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized Parents Teachers Meet for I and II year on 28.09.2024 at 9.00 A.M.  The main objective of the meeting is to create a common platform, where teachers and parents come together to discuss student’s performance and devise ways to enrich their learning experience. The class in-charge explained the student’s attendance, CIA- I marks and discussed the semester course implementation and progress. The progress report of I and II year students was intimated to the parents. The PTA meeting came to an end with the conclusion that the progress and development of the students depends on the joint effort of parents and teachers. Totally, 60 students came with their parents and attended the PTA meet.
