SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Extension Activity – Awareness program on “Role of Teachers in School Education”

Teacher’s Day in India is celebrated every year on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. As part of this celebration, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management conducted SLCS-Samaaj Seva (Extension activity) and awareness program based on the role of teachers in school education” on 05.09.23 at Nedu Madurai School, Madurai. 13 students from the second and third years and three staff members actively participated in this program. They addressed the school students about how teachers play an essential role in everyone’s life. Towards the end of the program, the school students showed their love and respect for their teachers and gave them a lot of good wishes with sweet acts. This program has given them a memorable experience.

Teachers Day Celebration

Teaching is a profession that teaches all other professions. A day is set aside to remember all the teachers. This day is celebrated in commemoration of Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer in education and was a well-known diplomat, scholar, and above all, a teacher. To carry forward this tradition, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a Teacher’s Day celebration at the Training Restaurant on September 5, 2023. 65 teaching and non-teaching staff members took part in this celebration. Students expressed their gratitude and appreciation for their teachers on this day. Various gifts were given as a token of love to all the faculty members. Towards the end of the session, refreshment was provided by the department of MC&HM. The efforts of the students were appreciated by all the teachers.

Extension Activity -SLCS Samaj Seva “Awareness Programme on Recent Technologies

On September 14, 2023, Mrs. N.P. Rajeswari, from the Department of Networking, along with a team of twenty students from the Networking Department, conducted an Extension Activity (SLCS Samaj Seva) for the students of De-Nobile Matriculation Higher Secondary School in K. Pudhur. The objective of this activity was to provide valuable information to the school students on several relevant topics. The discussion revolved around IoT, describing how it represents the network of physical objects embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies. These objects connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet. Students were introduced to the concept of cloud computing, emphasizing how it enables businesses to harness the vast amount of data generated by IoT. The students were educated on ethical hacking, which involves using the same tools, tricks, and techniques that malicious hackers employ but with the permission of authorized individuals or organizations. A basic understanding of software piracy was provided. Software piracy was defined as the illegal use, copying, modification, distribution, sharing, or sale of computer software protected by copyright laws. The discussion clarified that anyone who intentionally or unintentionally commits these illegal acts can be considered a software pirate, and hacking skills are not required for such activities. This Extension Activity aimed to provide foundational knowledge to the school students in these areas, helping them to grasp essential concepts and principles. A total of 50 students from De-Nobile Matriculation Higher Secondary School benefited from this extension activity. It served as an opportunity for them to gain insights into emerging technologies and ethical considerations related to the digital world. The engagement and participation of both the organizing team from our college and the enthusiastic school students made this initiative a success.

National Teacher’s Day Celebration

The Department of Networking celebrated National Teacher’s Day on September 09, 2023. Mr. SUDHARSAN K K, II-B.Sc. Networking, delivered the welcome address. The students from the Networking department participated in the session, and Mr. G.Kumaran, HOD/Assistant Professor, Department of Networking, addressed the gathering. In this speech, he explained how to commemorate Teacher’s Day in 2023. We celebrate it on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Teachers’ Day celebrates teachers and teacher figures in our lives. It is an occasion to show your appreciation for the impact they have had in your life or their valuable contributions to a particular field or community. Each and Every II year Students eagerly participated in this celebration as well as everyone was share their memorable moments on their school life through this session. Finally, Mrs. N.P. Rajeswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Networking, proposed a vote of thanks and thanked the management for their support in organising the event.

INFOTAINMENT23

The Department of Networking along with the Netkings Association jointly organized an Infotainment Association Meet on 17.08.2023. The event was orchestrated by the II Year B.Sc. Networking students. The session commenced with a prayer song, followed by a warm welcome from the II B.Sc. Networking students. Our Principal, Dr. R. Sujatha, inaugurated the meet with an inspiring speech. Dr. S. Priya, Dean of Academics, also delivered a motivating address to the students. The Head of the Department, Mr. G. Kumaran, introduced the Guest of Honor, Ms. T. Swathi tamilarasan, Relationship Manager at City Union Bank, Madurai. Our Chief Guest shared her insights in an inspirational speech, focusing on the impact of technical work. She shared her experiences from various IT industries and engaged with the students about their career growth. During the interactive session, students had the opportunity to clarify their doubts. The II and III year B.Sc. Networking students organized games and events for the first-year students, showcasing their talents and distributing prizes to the winners. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Charshika M of II B.Sc. Networking, followed by the National Anthem.”

SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Outreach Activity – Rally on “Save Environment & Save Earth”

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management and Yuva Club organized SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Outreach Activity – Rally on “Save Environment & Save Earth” at Vaigai Dam, Theni on 22nd Aug, 2023. 54 students and 3 staff members from the department of MC&HM took part in this outreach program.  The program aimed at creating awareness among the masses to ‘Save Environment & Save Earth’ in the vicinity of Vaigai Dam surrounding area. The initiative of the program aimed at the conservation of tress and optimum utilization of natural resources which ultimately contributed towards the benefit of future generation.

Pastry Art & Hot Plate Presentation Work Shop 2023

The South Indian Chef Association organized a National workshop on “Pastry Art & Hot Plate Presentation” at the Marriott Hotel in Cochin, Kerala, on 14.08.2023. Final-year students Akash R, Gokul R, Kasinathan A, Chandran K, Divyadharsan A, Samuel M, Jeevanandham SP, along with faculty member Mr. E. Jacob Jebarai, participated in the workshop. Chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe, President of the Chefs Guild of Lanka, was invited as the chief guest. He spoke about plate presentation as the final step that showcases culinary creations. Often overlooked or treated as an afterthought, plate presentation should emphasize the food’s quality and preparation techniques while engaging the diner’s senses. Effective plating should be simple enough to execute on a busy night, while still being stylish and visually appealing to the guests. By the end of the session, students received hands-on instruction on how to present both plates and pastries. This workshop provided significant motivation and encouragement to the students, resulting in a memorable experience for all.

Alumni Interaction on “The Effect of Rewards and Motivation on Student Achievement”

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an alumni interaction on ‘The Effect of Rewards and Motivation on Student Achievement” on 09.08.23.Chef Raj Mohan M.S., a former student of the department, is currently working as the HoD in the Department of HM&CS at GTN Arts College, Dindigul. He raised awareness among the students about the role of culinary competitions in their careers. He explained why students should participate in culinary competitions, what they can learn from them, and how that knowledge can help them improve their skills. Finally, he quoted the statement of Swami Vivekananda, ‘You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.’ His message emphasizes the importance of discovering one’s talent, nurturing and motivating it, honing it to perfection, imbuing it with morals, and presenting it with love. He stressed that someday, amidst a crowd of people, the sound of applause, dance, whistles, and cheers will signify the magic of your performance and success. He encouraged students to envision their future, think ambitiously, and embrace it in the present, as one day, their future will manifest as their present. This program succeeded in motivating and encouraging the students. In total, 58 students from the second and third years actively participated.

SEMINAR ON “NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY”

The Department of Networking celebrated “National Girl Child Day 2023” on January 24, 2023. The session started with the prayer song. Mr.M.Athigopal, HOD/AP, Department of Networking, welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. Neela, HOD/AP, Department of Hindi, SLCS, and Madurai. Our Chief Guest gave an intellectual lecture on National World Child Day, which is observed to raise awareness about the rights of girls, support the nation’s girl children, eliminate gender biases, and emphasise the importance of education, health, and nutrition. Faculty came from various departments to celebrate the occasion. The Felicitation address was delivered by Dr. S. Priya, Dean Academics, SLCS. Totally, 47 students were benefited from this seminar. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. N. P. Rajeswari, AP/Department of Networking and the session ended with the National Anthem.

National Mother’s Day Celebration

The Department of Networking celebrated National Mother’s Day on May 13, 2023. Ms. Charshika, II-B.Sc. Networking, delivered the welcome address. The students from the Networking department participated in the session, and Mr. M. Athigopal, HOD/Assistant Professor, Department of Networking, addressed the gathering. In this speech, he explained how to commemorate Mother’s Day in 2023. The day holds a significant place in our hearts because it gives us a chance to express our gratitude, love, and appreciation for our mothers. It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Father’s Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents’ Day. Finally, Mrs. N.P. Rajeswari,Assistant Professor,Department of Networking, proposed a vote of thanks and thanked the management for their support in organising the event.
