The Department of CS, as a part of their Extension Activity recorded and aired a progreamme “புத்தகம் எனது நண்பன்” through SLCS’s Community Radio Shyamalavani on 06.03.2021 at 02.30 PM. Six students from II B.Sc CS (SSS) performed a skit “Puthaham Enathu Nanban”, a play about the importance of books. This play disseminated the message to read books instead of wasting time using mobile phones.
MENTOR MEETING
On behalf of the department of CS, the second mentor meeting for the even semester 2020 – 2021 was conducted on 05.03.2021 from 3.00 PM-3.50 PM in the class rooms S48, S50 and in the shade of trees. All mentors of the department met their mentees separately. Due to social distancing, only the first year students participated in the meeting. They shared their grievances and personal problems faced by them to their mentors.
50th National Safety Day celebration
The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety celebrated the 50th National Safety Day on (4.3.21). On behalf of the department 50th National Safety badges were distributed to the students .All the students from Fire and Industrial Safety department,Second year students from the departments of Food science, MC& HM, Animation, Viscom, Networking, Computer Science and BBA participated in the program . It started with Mr. I .Vivek Ramkumar, HoD giving the welcome address. In his address he stressed that Safety is common to all and also very important to all professional courses in our college. The Principal, Dr.R.Sujatha, in her presidential address, emphasized that wearing of masks is mandatory during the covid-19 pandemic but many are not following the rules. She insisted to follow the safety rules and regulations in every aspect of our individual life for sustained development. The Principal took the pledge for the 50th National Safety Day along with the students and staff members. The Dr.R.Priya, Dean –Academics, gave the felicitation address.Mr.P.Navaneetha Krishnan, gave a brief introduction about the chief guest, Mr.T.Sargunam B.E., D.I.S., who has more than 30 years of experience in the Safety field as Safety Engineer, Safety Consultant and Safety Adviser in various concerns such as NLC, ITC,Sterlite Industries of Vedanta Group and Dalmia Cements. He is a life time member of the National Safety Council. The Chief Guest spoke about the history of National Safety Council and the reasons for celebrating National Safety Day. He underscored the theme of the National Safety Day 2021, that is, “Sadak Suraksha (Road Safety).”
He shared his experience on behaviour based accidents in Industries.He, finally shared videos of the various types of road accidents.The program concluded with Mr A.Jaiveer Kumar, Assistant Professor proposing the vote of thanks.

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM ON “HOW TO FACE INTERVIEWS”
The Department of CS & Career Counselling cell jointly organized a Career Guidance program on “HOW TO FACE INTERVIEWS” to help the III year students to prepare themselves to face the Interview on 04.03.2021 through Google Meet. Mrs.N.Anuradha, HoD advised the students to be strong in aptitude and reasoning skills, programming languages such as java, Python & PHP. She encouraged the students to attend the interviews with self confidence. This event was very useful for the students for attending the interview conducted by Perficient India Private Ltd. Mrs.V.Gayathri, Assistant Professor of CS advised the students to be aware of current technical requirements of the company before attending the interview. 18 students from III CS participated in the event.
CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME ON “AWARENESS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN THE PACKAGING INDUSTRY”
A Career Guidance Programme on “Awareness and Opportunities in the Packaging Industry” was organized for the first year students of batch 2020-23 on 03.03.2021 in the Animation Lab-I. The Guests of Honor for this event were Mr. Aswin, Managing Director & Mr. Purushoth, Design Expert from Shapers Studios, The Yellowbag Foundation, Madurai. Mr. Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Animation welcomed the guests and thanked them for spending time with the students of the college. They emphasized the fact that career decision is one of the significant decisions in one’s life and therefore it must not be taken under the compulsion of parents or peer pressure. They motivated the students to always follow their passion.They spoke about the path of entrepreneurship, the qualities of an entrepreneur and how they cannot be learnt but cultivated over time. The programme helped the students acquired a better understanding of the opportunities in the Packaging Industry.
Totally 30 students benefitted from this programme.
Awareness Programme on Eating Disorder
The Health & Nutrition Club in association with NSS organized an awareness programme as part of the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week on 01.03.2021in order to disseminate the problems arising due to eating disorders. The main objective of this programme was to categorize the first year students of our college as per their BMI. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. R. Sujatha. The special invitee Mr.R.Antony, Health Inspector, gave a memorable speech about the importance of health and Body Mass Index (BMI). After the inauguration, 300 members (I year students and few faculties of SLCS) BMI were determined. Among these 85 participants were underweight, 127 were normal, 67 were overweight and 21 were obese. After the assessment, suggestions were given depending on their BMI.
National Level Seminar on Dairying in India
Food Science and Process Management students and Faculty Members participated in the National Level Seminar on Dairying in India jointly organized by the Dairy Association of India (IDA) and the Department of Food and Dairy Technology at Mannar College, Madurai on 26/02/2021 and 27/02/2021. The Conference started with registration. On first day Session were started with inauguration function and this session was completed by Mr .S. Malarkannan . And day two session started by Mr.K.S.Kannan Vice Chairman of IDA ,and this session ended by Vote of thanks and National anthem.
MENTOR MEETING REPORT
On behalf of the department of CS, the first mentor meeting for the even semester 2020 – 2021 was conducted on 26.02.2021 from 3.00 PM-3.50 PM in the shades of different trees. All mentors of the department met their mentees separately. Due to social distancing, only the first year students participated in the meeting. This is the first direct contact meeting after the outbreak of the pandemic. Hence, the mentors explained the college rules and regulations and also stressed the need for social distancing and wearing of masks. Students introduced themselves to their mentors and shared their objectives, areas of interest and hobbies with their mentors. They, also, shared their grievances and personal problems.
OUT DOOR CATERING (ODC) at COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT MADURAI
Around 10,Second year students from the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management were given an opportunity at Courtyard by Marriott Madurai, to be part of outdoor catering (ODC) on 26.2.21. They were able to gather knowledge about outlet operation procedures, Mise en Place work. Buffet arrangement, Table setting for Banquet Hall and many modern techniques. This opportunity motivated and gave hands- on practice to the students.
TECHIE QUEST CLUB ACTIVITY
The department of Computer Science conducted the activity of the Techie Quest club for the academic year 2020-2021 Even semester on 24th, February 2021 at the Academic Lab-II from 3.00 PM to 3.50 PM. First year students from various departments participated in the club activity.
The session started with the welcome address given by Mrs.J.Varalakshmi, Assistant Professor and Event Coordinator, Dept. of CS. She, also, delivered the felicitation address and shared many concepts regarding the importance of innovations and the latest technology in the field of Computer science. She encouraged the students to actively participate in club activities and develop their skills in their domain of interest.
Mrs.V.Gayathri, Assistant Professor of CS, addressed the students on “Cyber Security Fundamentals”. This session was an eye-opening session for the students to understand the fundamentals of Cyber Security. They also learned how to provide Mobile security, Google account security and Whatsapp Web Security. The session ended with Mrs.J.Varalakshmi, AP of CS proposing the vote of thanks.
