FAGAS an association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Industrial visit to Parle-G – Madurai on 7/1/2022. The students of I and II year FSPM and two faculty members participated in the visit. It was very useful and the students learnt about the processing steps involved in biscuit making. Mr.KhadarHussain (Co-ordinator) explained various methods of processing, sensory evaluation, packing and safety practices and at the end of the session all the students interacted with Mr.KhadarHussain and clarified their doubts. The visit was mainly focused to understand the practical knowledge involved during the processing. Totally 26 students participated and all the students got benefited from this visit.
Extension Activity SLCS(samajseva )through “Nutritional Survey on Food habits during pandemic among the Industrial Labourers”
FAGAS an Association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity at Kappalur through “Nutritional Survey on Food habits during pandemic among the Industrial Labourers” on 07.01.2022. The students of I and II Year FSPM conducted a survey among the industrial labourers especially for women between the age group 35-45 years. To create awareness among the workers to overcome this pandemic period our students briefed the importance Immune rich foods and the importance of breakfast intake in their diet. Totally 26 students of FSPM participated in this extension activity.
Extension activity( SLCS Samajseva)through “Nutritional survey on Iron Deficiency Anaemia for Adolescent Girls”
FAGAS an association from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai organized an extension activity ( SLCS Samajseva) at Kappalur through “Nutritional Survey on Iron Deficiency Anaemia for Adolescent Girls” on 07.01.2022. The students of I and II Year FSPM students conducted a survey among the adolescent girls and concluded that there is a minimum intake of iron rich foods in their daily dietary pattern. Finally to create awareness we provided pearl millet incorporated laddu to all the adolescents girls. Totally 26 students of FSPM participated in this extension activity.
Intra College competition on “Traditional Fireless Cooking”
The Culinary Club of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Intra college “Traditional Fireless Cooking” competition on 6.1.22 as a part of pongal celebration. 22 students from various departments have actively participated. All the Participants prepared and presented our traditional food prepared with Millet, sprout sandwich, Milkshakes, Fruit Juices, Tender coconut Payasam, Millets & Dates laddu, and many more. The dishes were judged by Chef.Gajendran.M, Executive chef, from Amika Hotel, Madurai and Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal of our college. They interacted with our students to find out the ingredients of the recipes, nutritional values and the significance of the dishes prepared by them. The event not only provided a platform for the students to foster their creativity and decision making skills but also helped them explore their hidden talents and discover new areas of interest.
Seminar on “Fundamental Elements of Hospitality in Luxury Hotels”
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a Seminar on “Fundamental Elements of Hospitality in Luxury Hotels” on 6.1.2022. We have invited chef.M. Gajendran., Executive chef, Amika Hotel, Madurai as a resource person. 40 students of first year MC&HM actively participated. The resource person addressed the students about Luxury hotels which will try to offer to their visitors with the first-class services and cozy accommodation. In reality the luxury hotels offer an exceptional service that exceeds customer expectations. This seminar motivated and encouraged the students to understand the fundamental elements of hospitality in the Luxury hotels besides it made a memorable experience for all the participants.
Extension Activity – Awareness on Cattle Insurance
The Department of B.Com (B&I) organized an extension activity (SLCS-Samaj-Seva), “Awareness Program on Cattle insurance” on 06.01.22 to farmers in Valayankulam. The students of the department created awareness on Cattle insurance among the farmers regarding the features and importance of insurances. They also elaborated the details regarding types, coverage and claiming Cattle insurance. Our faculty Mr.R.Dhamotharan along with 15 students of II B.Com ( B & I ) participated in this program and nearly 25 farmers got benefitted by this program .

As a part of extension activity (SLCS-Samaj-Seva), “Awareness Program on Crop insurance ” was organized by the department of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) on 06.01.22 to farmers in Valayankulam .The students were involved in creating awareness to the people about needs ,advantages and importance of insurances. Further, they elaborated the details regarding types, coverage, claim of Crop insurance . Our faculty Mr.R.Dhamotharan along with 15 students of II B.Com ( B & I ) participated in this program and nearly 25 farmers got benefitted by this program.
CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL BIRD DAY
The Department of Animation & D. P. Roy Choudhury Association jointly celebrated the “National Bird Day 2022” on 05.01.2022 (Wednesday) between 02.00pm and 03.30 pm. Ms. Madhubala and Ms.Thrisheetha from II year Animation created an Awareness Poster on “Save Birds” and they distributed it to every department of the college. They created awareness among the faculty members about the importance of protecting the interest of birds and the key role played by the birds in protecting the environment. They also stated that about 12 per cent of world’s 9,800 bird species may face extinction within the next century. They requested the members they met to keep away a small amount of water in their home which may be a reason for the Life of a single bird. The Faculty members congratulated the students and also encouraged them to take more initiatives in the future.
SEMINAR ON “FUTURE PLAN FOR INVESTMENT”
Department of B.Com (Honours) ACCA and Trade Club jointly organized a Seminar on “Future Plan for Investment” on 05th January 2022 at Audio Visual Hall of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai. The program was commenced with prayer song. Special address was given by our Respected Vice Principal Dr. K. Archunan. Key note address was delivered by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head Incharge / B.Com. (Honours) ACCA. The Resource Person Mr. M. Kumar Rajaraman, Financial Advisor, Mutual Funds and General Insurance, Madurai shared his experience to the students and motivated them to think about various investment plans for their future. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr. A.Raja, Assistant Professor / B.Com. (Honours) ACCA and Trade Club Co-ordinator. 74 students participated and got benefitted by attending this program.
Birthday Celebration of Savitribai Phule
D.P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation Department organized Birthday Celebration of Savitribai Phule on 03.01.2022 at Academic Lab-I between 02.30 pm and 03.15 pm. The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms.Madhubala from II Year Animation. Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor of the department shared the importance of the event and he stated that she was the first female teacher and ardent champion of ending caste discrimination and illiteracy. She played an important role in improving women’s rights in India. Her sacrifices and struggles as a social reformer will be remembered for a long time. The Chief Guest for this function was Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal, SLCS. She made the students realize the importance of education, especially girl children, by giving examples of her own experiences. She inspired many students to take the challenges of life and how one can be successful in uplifting the downtrodden and the marginalized. The event was followed by Screening of the biography film of Savitribai Phule. Ms. Harini from I year Animation proposed the vote of thanks.
Totally 52 students participated in this programme from I & II year Animation.
