SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Out Reach Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA– Cleanliness is service”

India’s National Tourism Day is celebrated on 25.01.2023. It was established by the Indian government to raise awareness of the importance of tourism for the country’s economy, which is immense on the occasion of this celebration. Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management and Yuva Club (Ministry of Tourism) organized a SLCS-Samaaj Seva—Outreach Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA—Cleanliness is Service” as a one-day cleaning activity at Sirumalai, Dindigul Dist, on 23.1.2023. As part of the program, students collected waste materials from popular tourist spots in Sirumalai and disposed it in an environment friendly manner. A short rally was also organized to create swachhta awareness for the passers-by and on-lookers in the vicinity. The people in the village appreciated the efforts made by the students. In total, 32 students and 3 faculty members from MCHM took part in this program.

SLCS- Samaaj Seva – an Extension Activity on “National Youth Day”

National Youth Day is celebrated every year on 12th January, to remark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and his contribution to India’s freedom movement and regeneration of nationalism, which is immense on the occasion of this celebration. The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an extension activity to create awareness among the school students on “Consuming Alcohol and Smoke Free Environment” on 12.1.23. As a part of the extension activity, 3 faculty members and 10 students from II MC&HM actively participated and created awareness for school students. They got an insight into how the young generation of today’s world can lead a fulfilling life by following Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts. They were also taught to meditate in order to experience peace and happiness in their day-to-day life. The main objective behind the celebration is to create a better future for the country by motivating the youth and spreading the ideas of the Swami Vivekananda. The activity of the students is appreciated by the school Principal and teachers.

Inter-departmental Competition on “National Youth Day”

Hospitality Education Network (HEN) Association of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management and the Ministry of Tourism (Yuva Tourism Club) together conducted an Inter-departmental competition as part of the celebration for “National Youth Day” on 11.01.2023. Students from various departments (148 students) actively participated in the competitions like Rangoli, Connections, Pencil Art, and Tongue Twister. K. R. Bhavadharshini and S. Kavya,III ACCA, took first place, and  R. Sophiya and   T. Aksara, I FSPM, took second place in the Rangoli Competition. R. Ishwarya Prabha, III B.Com (Hons) took first place, and K. R. Trishika, II B.Com. (B&I) took second place for Pencil Art Competition. B. Bhargavi, I CS(SSS)  took first place, and M. Bala Meenakshi, I CS (SSS) took second place in the Tongue-Twister Competition. A. Lishalini and K S Tharani, I CS (SSS) took first place, and B. Bhargavi and V. S. Darsita, I CS (SSS) took second place in the Connections Competition.

Orientation Program

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Orientation Program for I and II year students (46 students) on 03.01.2023. Mr. C. Suresh Kumar, HoD—MC&HM, presented a power point presentation on campus culture, discipline, anti-ragging, grooming standard, vision and mission, POs, PSOs, COs of our department. Mr. N. Ramesh, Assistant Professor, explained the OBE pattern, attendance percentage for examination, and calculation of the continuous assessment marks, both in theory and in practical. Mr. P. Anand, Assistant Professor, explained the curriculum, course plan, lesson plan, and class time table. Mr. Gangadharan, Assistant Professor, described the activities and extra-curricular activities of the department. Mr. E. Jacob Jebaraj, Assistant Professor, gave a detailed information on part-time job; ODC program of the students, value-added course, preparation of competitive examinations and campus placements. Mr. R. Ganesh, Assistant Professor, briefed on the online course enrollment (Moocs, Swayam), clubs and forums, communication and soft skills, career planning. Finally, the lesson plan, class schedule, and attendance log sheet was given to the class representative.

Christmas Eve & New Year Celebration

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management celebrated “Christmas Eve & New Year Celebration- 2023” on 22.12.2022 at the Training Restaurant.  The restaurant was decorated with Christmas theme and the event was celebrated with Christmas carols, pomp and grandeur arranged by MCHM students (68 students).  The Principal along with 70 faculty members participated in this event.

SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Extension Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA– Cleanliness is service”

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a SLCS-Samaaj Seva—Extension Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA—Cleanliness is Service”, as a one-day cleaning activity at Alagar Kovil, Madurai, on 16.12.2022. Students created awareness among the rural people by providing pamphlets and suggesting them to create a green environment in their surroundings. As a part of the program, they walked along the street, collected plastic waste, and cleaned the temple area. Students actively participated in the program by giving in their full support, which made it a great success. The people in the village appreciated the efforts made by the students and the co-ordinator. Totally, 15 students and 6 faculty members from MCHM took part in this program.

Educational Tour to Vagamon and Cochin

HEN Association of Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Industrial Visit to Vagamon and Cochin for two days from13.12.2022 to 14.12.2022. The Students visited various places in Vagamon such as Kurisumala, Fine forest, Barren Hills, Mundakayam Ghat on 13.12.2022. On 14.12.2022, the Students visited Wonderla Theme Park in Cochin. The students gained experiential learning which helped them to understand the History, Art and Culture of the people, food habits, and social background of the local people in Kerala. In this trip, students built good relationship with their classmates, experienced new environments and enjoyed the day away from the classroom. Totally, 45 students from II and III year MC&HM and 3 faculty members participated in this visit.

Basic awareness on Right to Information Act through Rally – Observing Human Rights Day on 12.12.2022

Consumer Awareness Club & Department of BBA conducted an activity on Basic awareness on Right to Information Act through Rally – Observing Human Rights Day on 12.12.2022. The students of Consumer Club Members and BBA conducted a rally in the nearby village Eliyarpathi.  They promoted the 6 Fundamental Rights available to all Indian Citizens. They explained about the 1. Right to Equality 2. Right to Freedom 3. Right against Exploitation 4. Right to Freedom of Religion 5. Right to culture and Education and 6. Right to Constitutional Remedies. The people from the Eliyarpathi village appreciated the students for their promotional work. This activity was lead by    Dr. B. Meenakshi Sundaram, Consumer Club Coordinator. Totally, 9 students of consumer Club Members and 14 students of I BBA and 4 Students of II BBA eagerly participated in the activity.

Intra Departmental Competition “Human Rights Day”

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management (YUVA Tourism Club) conducted an Intra-Departmental Competition, as a celebration for “Human Rights Day,” on December 12, 2022. The participants prepared their posters and PPT presentations related to Human Rights Day and tourism topics like- Dark Tourism, Agri Tourism, Wine Tourism, Coffee Tourism, etc. Mr. Alan Maries Raj from the MC&HM Department won first prize; Mr. V. Sudharshan won second prize and Mr. R. Karthikeyan won third place in this competition. This competition provided a platform for the students to foster their creativity and decision-making skills. It also helped them to explore their hidden talents and discover new areas of interest. Totally, 9 students from the MC&HM department actively participated.

SLCS-Samaaj Seva – Outreach Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA”– Cleanliness is Service”

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a SLCS-Samaaj Seva—outreach Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA- Cleanliness is Service”, as a cleaning activity at Valandur Temple, Madurai, on 08.12.2022. The students created awareness among the rural people by providing pamphlets to them and suggesting them to create a green environment in their surroundings. As a part of the program, they collected plastic waste, and cleaned the temple. Students actively participated in the program by giving in their full support, which made it a great success. The people in the village appreciated the efforts made by the students and the co-ordinator. Totally, 38 students and 3 faculty took part in this program.
