BREAST FEEDING WEEK CELEBRATION

FAGAS Association from the  Department of Food Science and Processing Management and Health & Nutrition Club jointly organized a Breast Feeding Week Celebration on the theme “Protect breastfeeding: a shared responsibility“. Based on this, two competitions were conducted for the students of SLCS on 07.08.2021.

Online quiz Contest was held on the “Importance and benefits of Breast Feeding” through Google meet(https://forms.gle/6Snus5ZpggD8N89e7)& Drawing competition was also held on the theme entitled “Joy of Breast Feeding” through Google meet (https://forms.gle/1ZHjPNLTrxgfQkmM9). The main motto of these activities focus on how breastfeeding contributes to the survival, health and wellbeing of all.  Totally 26 students (22 student from FSPM & 4 from Health and Nutrition Club )participated in this program and got benefited.

DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management inaugurated the Department Association in the name of “FAGAS” on 31-07-2021 in F26 room through this link https://meet.google.com/lookup/eawvdj6hlc?authuser=1&hs=179 around 12.00 noon. The association was initiated by the Head of the Department Ms.A.Sona. She addressed the gathering and announced the nominated FAGAS Association members. Ms. U.Jegatheeswari final year student has been elected as President, Ms.S.B. Krishna Nivetha, Second year student is Vice president and Ms.M.Atchaya, second year student is secretary of this association. Mrs.P.Deeplakshmi Assistant Professor explained the role of each member and other committee members with regard to future plans for conducting the Department activities through this association.  Totally 27 students were participated in this program.

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY AWARENESS PROGRAMME

To commemorate “World Hepatitis day” the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Health and Nutrition Club jointly organized an Online quiz Contest on the theme of Hepatitis Can’t Wait for the students on 28.07.2021 in https://forms.gle/dSmihEXAv3GfxBSo8. To create awareness among students Ms.A.Sona, Head of the Department, high lightened the meaning of Hepatitis, Symptoms, foods to be included & excluded in our diet in F26 Classroom through this link https://meet.google.com/lookup/eawvdj6hlc?authuser=1&hs=179 at 3.30pm. Around 25 students of our Department participated and got benefited in this program.

WEBINAR ON “EFFECTIVE USE OF N-LIST FOR LITERATURE SURVEY TO DESIGN A NEW FOOD PRODUCT”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized a Webinar on “Effective use of N List for literature survey to design a new food product” on 21-07-2021 at3.30pminF26roomthroughthishttps://meet.google.com/lookup/fcfel7kuiq?authuser=0&hs=179 link around The resource person of this webinar is Mrs.M.Guna Sundari, the Asst. librarian of our college, explained about the steps involved in N-list link for downloading the e-books and e- journal. The resource person also enlightened the students about how to do a literature survey which is a part of Food design and its practical course. This webinar would definitely help students to get an idea about N-LIST for downloading E-journal and books which will be useful for the students to identify the problem and to develop a new food product. The session was interactive and the resource persons answered the participants queries. Totally 25 students of FSPM I&II year got benefited from this webinar. The feedback of this webinar was collected from the students and the feedback showed that the students were highly satisfied with this webinar.

Career Counselling on Requisite Skills to become a successful person

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Career Counselling cell jointly organized a Career counselling session on requisite skill to become a successful person for the II&III B.Sc Food Science students on 16.07.2021 in F26 room through https://meet.google.com/vmh-mpza-smc around 12.30pm Miss.S.Abinaya (Batch2018-21) Production Data Analyst, Ruby Food Products Pvt.Ltd, Madurai spoke about the requisite skills to become a successful person in this field. She said that the line of action should be initiated right from today for those with passion in this field. She also mentioned various opportunities available and the rewarding experiences that one can attain in this field. Totally 25 students of both the years participated in this interaction session. The topics of interaction were:

Webinar on “CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRY”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Career Counselling cell jointly organized an Webinar  on Career opportunities in Food Processing Industry”  on 16.07.2021 through https://meet.google.com/vmh-mpzaround11.30pm. at F26 room Mr.Singaravadivel, Independent Director Tamilnadu food grains yard, Madurai was the resource person. He explained in detail about the various career opportunities skills and competencies needed for food processing industry. The Government schemes and technological developments related to food processing were also narrated in detail. This webinar would definitely help students to get an idea about start – ups through effective knowledge transfer. The session was interactive and the resource persons answered the participants queries related to the course. He also highlighted numerous opportunities and scope in the field of Food science and processing management. Totally 36 students of our department participated and got benefited in this program.

ALUMINI INTERACTION

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Alumni cell jointly organized an Alumni interaction on job seeking in food science for the II&III B.Sc Food Science students on 16.07.2021 in F26 room through https://meet.google.com/vmh-mpza-smc around 12.30pm. Mini Project

The department of B.Sc., Food Science and Processing Management had conducted  mini project training for the students, to give them hands-on practice, at various food industries. All the students of the III Year completed their training , which is a part of their curriculum during the month of July (01-07-2021 to 08.07.2021) with the duration of 60 hours.

The students have  undergone internship at

  • Naga Limited Consumer Division Unit-1
  • Thirumurugan Company
  • Perrys Biscuit
  • KMS Confectioneries

The students gained practical experience through participative learning on processing various foods like Milk; Cereals & Pulses incorporated Cookies and Confectionery items in the Food Industries.

Guest lecture on “FSSAI Regulation for Fish and Seafood Processing’’

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management conducted an online Guest lecture on “FSSAI Regulation for Fish and Seafood Processing’’ on 12-04-2021 between 10.00 am and 11.30 am.

The virtual programme which was conducted through the link- http://meet.google.com/lookup/c35zvmbx5/authusr=O&hs=179, was inaugurated by Mrs.M.Venkatasubbulakshmi, Assistant Professor, Dept of FSPM. Ms. M. Velammal, Quality Assurance Executive, Rebel Food, Chennai delivered the lecture about the FSSAI regulation for fish and sea food products. Totally 24 students from our department participated. At the end of the session, students clarified their doubts with the expert. Feedback was collected from the students and the analysis showed that most of them were highly satisfied.

Guest lecture on “History and Theme of World Health Day’’

To commemorate “World Health Day – 7th April”, the Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an online  guest lecture on “ History and Theme of World Health Day’’ on 07-04-2021 between 10am and 11 am through the link –https://meet.google.com/lookup/c4xdoftw7s. The programme was inagurated by Mrs.M.Venkatasubbulakshmi, Assistant Professor, Dept of FSPM. 38 students belongs to our department participated in the program. A special lecture about the healthy food for all the people was given by Dr.A.Gowrimeenal, Assistant Professor, Dept. of FSPM. The main aim of this program was to enlighten the students about the spirit of the World Health Day. At the end of the session feedback was collected from the students and the analysis showed that most of them were highly satisfied with this programme.
