CAREER COUNSELING PROGRAMME ON OIL & GAS INDUSTRIES

            Department of Fire and Industrial Safety has organized a one day online career counseling program for 18 students of UG F&IS on 03/03/2023 Mr.R.Vinoth Babu Asst manager  SABIC oil and gas sector Saudi Arabia were the resource  person of the program .They shared industrial Experience ,future of the safety field and job opportunities oil and gas industries in India and abroad .They also shared various safety norms followed in oil and gas sector and importance of certified courses, modern safety equipment ,Industry communication .At the end of the program an interactive session was arranged .The students of F&IS  felt very happy for arraigning such a useful career guidance program which helped them to build their career for a bright future

CAREER COUNSELLING PROGRAMME ON“SAFETY IN ENGINEERING INDUSTRIES”

        Herbert William Heinrich Association of the Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a one day online Career Counselling program for  25 students of UG F&IS  and PG Diploma FIS on 30.04.2023. Mr. R. Prabhu, Director & Lead EHS Consultant, NRP Industrial Safety Services, Madurai was the resource person of the program. He shared his industrial experience, future of the safety industry field and job opportunities in Engineering Industries in India and in abroad. He also explained the various safety norms in construction work and how it must be routinely inspected by the supervisor and by a competent person before starting the work. At the end of the program, the students actively participated in the interactive session. The students of F&IS felt very happy for arranging such a useful career guidance program which helped them to build their career for a bright future.

52ND NATIONAL SAFETY WEEK CELEBRATION

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety celebrated 52nd National Safety Week in the college campus on 06.03.2023 through the following events- Flag hosting, Safety equipment exhibition, seminar and planting of saplings. The President and Management Executive of the college hoisted the flag and   Dr. R Sujatha, Principal, inaugurated the safety equipment exhibition. Our department combined with  Vishnu industrial product showcased the various safety equipments used in industry and commercial places. The seminar was conducted on the topic- “Innovative Technology to Improve Safety in Construction”. The resource person, Mr. Prabhu, Director, NRP Industrial Safety Service, explained various hazards in construction. After the seminar, the planting of saplings activity was conducted.  Totally, 69 students got benefited through this event.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY

Department of Fire and industrial safety organized a Demonstration session on “Fire Fighting Techniques Observing National Science day” to the KRS School Students and Staff members on 17.02.2023. The objective of the program is to create awareness to the students on how to control fire accidents and rescue operation and its procedure to reduce the intensity of future disasters. Mr. I. Vivek Ramkumar explained the fire hazards in the workplace and how to act safely in the event of an emergency fire situation; including selecting and using the correct fire extinguishers. He also insisted on ensuring whether the emergency assembly area is accessible and safe for the  school children and staff. Totally, 165 KRS School students benefited through this session.

Administrative training program

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety and NRP Safety Solutions organized “Road Safety and Defensive Driving” training program for SLCS faculty, non teaching faculty, driving school staff and drivers at SLCS on 31.01.2023, as part of the 34th  Road Safety Month.

Mr. R Prabhu, Director & Lead Safety Consultant, NRP Industrial Safety Equipments & Services, conducted the training program. The guest speaker explained the road safety rules and regulations and also shared video footages of various types of accidents. He instructed defensive driving techniques for vehicles. The participants appreciated Mr. R Prabhu for the useful program. Totally, 105 participants benefited through this program.

Workshop on “French in/for Culinary, Hospitality & Tourism Industries”

        On 27.01.2023, 38 students from the Department of Hotel Management participated in the workshop on “French in/for Culinary, Hospitality and Tourism Industries” organized by Lady Doak College, Madurai. In the workshop, they were given grammar exercises related to French literature and an interactive session was given to the students based on hotel/restaurant/tour package and excursion deals. Students were given an opportunity to interact with the hotel staffs and guests (resolving guest complaints and issues). The students were asked to speak French and assess their communicative fluency.

AWARENESS PROGRAM ON INNOVATIVE ROAD SAFETY

Herbert William Heinrich Association, Department of Fire and Industrial Safety & Environmental Health and Safety club along with NSS organized an Awareness Program On “Innovative Road Safety” and Road safety awareness rally on 21.01.2023 (8.30 -12.30 PM). The F&IS students, Environmental Health & Safety club members and students from B.Com, BBA, B&I participated in this program. Mr. R. Shiva Prasad, IPS. Superintendent of police District police office Madurai & Mr. Mani, ASP, Madurai, delivered the guest lectures. He elaborately explained the importance of road safety in simple manner. He discussed the traffic rules, importance of seat belt, helmet and speed limit. He briefed on the motor vehicle act, rules and regulations and the systematic approach to help the people during accident. Totally, 101 participants and 14 Faculty members got benefitted through this program.

Basic First Aid

Department of Fire & Industrial Safety organized a training program on “Basic First Aid”. The training was conducted by Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Centre for Healthcare from 17.1.2023 to 19.1.2023. Dr. PRAVEEN JACOB and his trainers- Mr. BalaSubramani, Mr. Anand, Mr. Karthic, Mr. Jananayagan, were the resource person for the training program. The resource person practically demonstrated the basics of first aid practices that are to be followed during the emergency for an affected victim. The students felt that the program was very useful to them and at the end of training program an interactive session was arranged to clear the doubts of the students. Totally, 29 students from I, II & III year Fire and Industrial safety eagerly participated in the training program.

VALUE ADDED COURSE ON IOSH

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a Value Added Course on IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) for III F& IS. Mr. K. Senthil Nathan, HSE, Green World Group, acted as the trainer. He explained clearly the Risk Assessment and standards of IOSH. He also gave useful tips to the students for their career and higher education. At the end of the program, a mock interview was arranged for the final year students. The students of F& IS felt very happy for arranging such a course for their career enhancement.
