The Department of Commerce organized an Industrial Visit to Dinamalar and Parle-G factory on 27.01.2020 for the B.Com (B&I) I Year students. They visited the Dinamalar daily Factory and observed the processes involved in publishing newspapers. They also visited Parle-G factory and saw first-hand the processes involved in manufacturing biscuits. They were accompanied by faculty members Dr.S.Gurupriya, Asst.Prof of Commerce and Ms.Shanmugapriya.B, Asst.Prof of Commerce.
Career counseling
The Department of B.Com(B&I) organized a Career counseling programme for the III B.Com(B&I) students on January 12, 2020. Dr.S.Pugalenthi, Head, MBA, RLIMS and Dr.K.Navarathnam – Associate Professor, RLIMS had an interactive session with the students regarding the opportunities available after completing MBA. They also created awareness about CAT, MAT and TANCET Exams, which is a pre-requisite for admission in ‘B’ Schools. All the Students of III B.Com(B&I) participated and were thankful for this beneficial session.

Faculty Development Programme
Department of Commerce (Honours) organized a one day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)” in collaboration with International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC) for the Commerce faculty members working in the college on 03.01.2020. Resource Person, Mr. Madesh Kuppusamy, ACCA-UK Certified Faculty & a registered Faculty with Institute of Chartered Accountants of India delivered a talk on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for an effective student centric teaching and learning. The FDP is designed so as to upgrade the teaching, training, and research skills of commerce faculty members in the field of Accounting.
Extensional activity
As part of the extensional program the students of the Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) went to the Govt. School, Nedumadurai. Through this program the students of B.Com (B&I) created awareness on ‘Road Safety’ to the VIII students, who in turn, were asked to educate their parents on road safety. The awareness was created through Skits, Charts and interaction. Nearly 50 students benefited through this program. Prof.R.Damotharan coordinated the program. The Head master of the school appreciated the students of B.Com (B&I) for their tremendous effort.
Career Enrichment Meeting
On behalf of the Department of Commerce B.Com(B&I) a meeting was held on 30.11.2019 with Mrs.M.Mural Satam, Assistant Secretary , Insurance Institute of India (III) , Mrs.Manisha Shinde of Insurance Institute of India (III) and Mr.G.Srinivasan, Secretary, Madurai Insurance Institute in order to sign an MoU with Indian Institute of Insurance to provide Licentiate as a value added program for the B.Com(B&I) students. The program started with the welcome address by Dr.S.Pugalanthi, Head of the Department, RLIMS. Dr.B.Ramamoorthy, Principal, SLCS, delivered a speech about the college and the specialization of the courses, it offers. Mrs.V.Padmavathy, Head, Department of Commerce, informed that a requisition was sent by the B.Com Department to Insurance Institute of India (III) for approval of an MoU. Mr.G.Srinivasan, Secretary, Madurai Insurance Institute, detailed the efforts taken by the Department and Mrs.M.Mural Satam, Assistant Secretary assured that the MoU will be signed at the earliest. The program ended with the vote of thanks given by Mr.P.Selvam, Assistant Professor, and MBA.
Diploma in Banking and Finance
Diploma in Banking and Finance (DBF) Examination conducted by INDIAN INSTITUTE OF BANKING AND FINANCE (IIBF) is a desirable qualification along with other prescribed entry level qualifications for recruitment in the officer cadre. As part of their curriculum, the Students of III B.Com B&I are prepared to appear for this examination every year. This year our students appeared for the examination in Trichy Engineering College, Konali, Trichy. The examination was held for three days 13.11.2019, 17.11.2019 and 24.11.2019. On all exam days the students commuted from Madurai to Trichy in our College Bus. Students and Parents felt happy and thanked the Management for their support. We are very happy to inform that Mr.Alfred Wesley Pinku of III B.Com has cleared all the papers successfully. It is also heartening to note that Many of our students were able to clear one or two papers.
Independence Day Celebration
As part of their extensional activity the students of B.Com(B&I) celebrated the 73rd Independence Day in our college campus on 14.08.2019 by conducting various competitions inducing patriotism to the students. The program started with the prayer song, Mrs.V.Padmavathy, Head of the Department welcomed the gathering, Dr.B.Ramamurthy, Principal and Dr.R.L.Ramnath, NAAC advisor delivered keynote addresses. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Ms.Selvameena of III B.Com(B&I)
Viva-Voce Examination
As part of academic enhancement, Final year B.Com students are presented their Internship training report through Powerpoint presentation in seminar Hall, the panel members are Mrs. V.Padmavathy, HOD, Mrs.S.Gurupriya, Ms.B.Shanmugapriya and Mr.R.Damotharan.
Extensional Activity
Students of B.Com B&I – Mr.S.Gokulnath , Mr.M.Hariharan , Ms.E.Selvameena and Ms.K.Anjana of III year and Mr.Krishanakumar of I year gave a speech on Budget 2019 in our Community radio Shyamalavani, they explained the pros and cons of Budget 2019. They also briefed about the priority sector lending especially to the agricultural sector and MSME which would be useful for the listeners . Through this program peoples in and around our College gained more insight into it.
