Field Visit

A Field visit to Tuticorin VOC Port Trust was organized for students of B.Com (Banking and Insurance) on 03.11.2021. The students had the great opportunity to learn the operations of Tuticorin VOC Port Trust . Students got the experience of witnessing a Cargo Ship, thereby observing its functions. The authorities at Tuticorin VOC Port Trust were kind enough to elaborately explain the day to day activities at the port. Students felt the visit to be very useful and funfilled. Totally, 125 students from II year and III year B.Com (B&I) were involved in this field visit.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Extensional Activity

Student of B.Com B&I  Mr. Nagarjun   of  II year  gave a  speech on  Health Insurance  on 01.11.21  in our Community radio “Shyamalavani.”  He gave a detailed explanation about Claim procedures in Health Insurance and   its benefits. It would be very useful for the listeners.

SLCS Samaaj seva – Extensional Activity

 Student of B.Com (B&I) Ms. Abinaya of II year gave a speech on Crop Insurance on  01.11.21 in our Community radio “Shyamalavani”,.She explained Types, Coverage, Function, Claim Process, Renewal Process and Advantage of Crop insurance. It would be useful for the listeners. Through this program people in and around our College gained more insight into it.

PARENT TEACHERS’ MEETING – II

The Department of B.Com (B&I) conducted an online   PTA (Parents Teachers Association) Meeting II for the students of II & III B.Com ( B&I) on 29.10.21. Ms. V.Padmavathy, Head,B&I conducted for III Year, Ms. Nithya Kalyani, Assistant Professor, B&I conducted for II Year. The faculty members  explained to the parents about their wards’ attendance and II internal mark details and also informed them about the upcoming summative examination.

Fresher’s Day Programme

      Fresher’s Day Programme for I B.Com(B&I)  Students was organized by the Department of Commerce (B&I) on 27.10.2021.The programme commenced with a Prayer followed by Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Vidhya of III B.Com(B&I) .   The presidential address was delivered by Dr.R. Sujatha, Principal, and felicitation address was given by Dr.K.Archunan, Vice-principal and Dr.S.Priya Dean- Academics. Ms.V.Padmavathy – Head of The Department.Mr R.Damotharan, Mrs.R.Nithya Kalyani, and Mrs.G.Karthika conducted the Ice Breaking Session.  Second and Final year Students of B.Com(B&I) organized  the programme. The programme ended with a Vote of Thanks.

Cuentas Association Inauguration

       Cuentas, an Association of  the Department of Commerce  was inaugurated for the academic year 2021-2022 on 27.10.2021.The programme commenced with a Prayer followed by a  Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Vidhya of III B.Com(B&I) . The presidential address was delivered by Dr.R. Sujatha, Principal, and felicitation address was given by Dr.K.Archunan. Ms. V. Padmavathy ,Head of The Department announced the office bearers of the association.

webinar on “Function and Role of World Bank”

         The Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I)  organized a webinar on  “Function and Role of World Bank” on 23.10. 2021. Shri.Shanthakumar Sundaram, operations officer, World Bank , New Delhi was the resource person.  He explained in detail the history  and   role   of the world bank and   also offered technical ,economic and monetary advice to member countries for the specific projects by world bank .This webinar would help students to get an idea about  the function  and  role of  the world bank . A total of 150  students participated and got benefited in this program.

Alumni interaction

The Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I)  organized  an Interactive session with our alumni, Ms.K.ANJANA  (2017 – 2020) batch, working as HRA, CONDUENT SOLUTIONS, interacted with  the students (80) of I B.Com (B& I)   and the students of  III B.Com (65)( B& I) on 20.10.2021  by sharing her work experience. She explained job opportunities available in MNC’s and also gave guidelines for attending the interview.  All the students thanked her for sharing her experience.

Alumni interaction

Our Alumni   (2014-17 batch) Mr.Anand Rajah, Relationship  Manager, City Union Bank and Mr.Vignesh kumar   Manager, Axis Bank  interacted with  the students (80) of   I B.Com (B& I)  on    15.10.2021 . They spoke on the importance of licentiate and associate exam  and  other career opportunities in  Banking and Insurance companies . All the students  actively participated and gained more knowledge about career opportunities in Banking and insurance companies.

Seminar on Managing Claims in Insurance Industry

The Department of Commerce (B&I) & MBA in Association with Career Counseling Cell of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science and Madurai Insurance Institute jointly organized a Seminar on “Managing Claims in Insurance Industry” on 12.10.2021 in Auditorium

The inaugural session started with a Prayer and lighting of Kuthuvizhakku. Dr. M. Subramanian, Head of the Department of MBA welcomed the gathering. Respected Principal – Dr. R. Sujatha delivered the inaugural address. Honourable President Dr. R. Lakshmipathy Sir delivered the presidential address and Shri. L. Chendurnathan, Chairman of Madurai Insurance Institute delivered the felicitation address.

In the technical session, the Most Valued Chief Guests – Shri.K. Muralidharan (Rtd. Deputy Manager – Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd.) and  Shri. K.B. Vijay Srinivas  (Rtd. General Manager & Director – United India Insurance Co. Ltd.) shared their experience on claims management in both life insurance and non-life insurance business. More than three hundred and ten participants were benefited through this seminar.

Learned Dean – Academics – Dr. S. Priya  delivered the Valedictory Address.

Mr. N.R. Kaushik – II. B.Com (B&I) proposed Vote of Thanks. The session was graced by the presence of Dignitaries from Madurai Insurance Institute. Seminar arrangements were done by Mrs. V. Padmavathy, HOD – B.Com (B&I) and Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep, Assistant Professor – MBA Programme.

The program ended with a National Anthem.
