Educational Tour to Cochin, Kerala

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised an Educational Tour to “Cochin, Kerala” on 08.04.2022 (Friday) to explore the places, culture and food of our neighboring state. The students got an opportunity to visit the tourist places in and around Cochin and gain commercial knowledge through this visit by interacting with the local people. This way of experiential learning motivated the students in initiating startups at tourist places.

Totally, 59 students and 3 faculty members participated in the event and got benefitted. The visit gave us a memorable experience on tourism to Kerala.

Seminar on “Transforming Young Entrepreneurial Minds”

The “Pinnacle Association” of The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science in association with Entrepreneurship Development Cell organised a Seminar on Transforming Young Entrepreneurial Minds on 01.04.2022 (Friday). Mr. Pa Durai, a young entrepreneur and founder of Pa Durai Media, addressed the whole session. The resource person shared his entrepreneurial journey from the commencement to the present during the session. The session focused on opportunities and challenges to young entrepreneurs post pandemic era.

 

Totally 55 students and 2 faculty members participated in the program and got benefitted. The session ended with the energetic and inducing note of the resource person, which hopefully seeded a transformation thought among the participants.

SLCS-SAMAAJ SEVA – OUTREACH PROGRAME ON EDVANTAGE A COMPUTER BASED EDUCATION

  The “Pinnacle Association” of The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an SLCS – Samaaj Seva – Outreach programme “EDvantage – A Computer Based Education”, on 21.03.2022 (Monday) at the Government Middle School, Kaluvanachery village, Viruthunagar dist. During the programme, students were exposed to various educational tools used in educational sector in the current Scenario. Totally, 15 students’ participated in the event and 120 students got benefitted by the program. The Head Master and teachers appreciated our students for their initiative of educating their students with new trend.

Career Guidance Program on “Demand for new generation auditors”

                 The “Pinnacle Association” of The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised a Career Guidance program on 17.03.2022 (Thursday).  R Siva Kumar, Certified Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), RRSK Associates, addressed the session. He guided the students on various opportunities and demand for new generation auditors across the globe. He also supported the students for the articleship training after the completion of their graduation.

Totally, 18 students participated and got benefitted through the session. The participants felt the session a much needed and fruitful for their career.

NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON “NEW TRANSFORMATION IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION”

                          The Department of Commerce (HONOURS & ACCA) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted a National level workshop on “NEW TRANSFORMATION IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION” on the eve of celebrating Indian accounting association foundation day on 15.03.2022 (Tuesday). The workshop was started with the welcome address given by Dr. D.Selvaraj, Head of the Department, Commerce (ACCA) and the Presidential address was given by the Principal Dr. R. Sujatha.

                  Dr.A.Mayil Murugan, Professor of The Madhura College, Dr.Rosy Godwin, Professor of Lady Doak College and Dr.Harjit Singh, Professor of The Amity University were the key speakers of the program.  They shared information on recent trends and transformation in Accounting Practice. They also shared information on market expectation from the current accounting graduates.

Totally, 248 students and 12 Faculty members participated and got benefitted through the session.

Industrial visit to The Bell Match Company, Sivakasi

            Industrial visit is a vital part of the curriculum. It helps to bridge the gap between classroom and the world. The visit also provides first-hand knowledge about the organizational structures and modes of operation in different industries.

              The “Pinnacle Association” of The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised an Industrial visit to “THE BELL MATCH COMPANY”, SIVAKASI on 14.03.2022 (Monday). This Indian company exports match sticks to many countries throughout the world. During this visit the students were explored to the various functions and complete process of manufacturing match sticks. The students got the opportunity to interact with the company staff of various departments and acquire practical business knowledge. The company staff provided good support and cooperation throughout the day.

               Totally, 41 students participated in the event and got benefitted. The programme was ended with the Motivational address by the company Manager on “New Entrepreneurial Opportunities to young minds” and he also assured for internship and placement opportunities for the students of SLCS.

Career Guidance Program on Entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in the field of auditing.

                 The “Pinnacle Association” of The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised a Career Guidance programe on 12.03.2022 (Saturday).  ACCA Madesh K, Management Consultant, MSME, Coimbatore and Senior Financial Analyst in Management Reporting, Standard Chartered Bank, addressed the session. He provided inputs on various entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in the field of auditing both in India and abroad. He also provided some easy tricks to crack various competitive exams.

Totally, 18 students participated and got benefitted through the session. The participants felt the session was a much needed one and fruitful for their career.

 

 

DIGITAL LITERACY AWARENESS

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science association with “Pinnacle Association” conducted an SLCS – Samaaj Seva – Extension Activity on “Digital Literacy Awareness”, on 18/02/2022 (Friday) at the Government Middle School, Arittapatti village, Madurai. During the session, the students were given awareness on access to digital education and hands-on training was given on educational tools. Totally, 24 students participated in the event and 150 students got benefitted by the program. Our college students were appreciated by the Head Master of the school for their valuable contribution to educate their students.

ASSOCIATION MEETING REPORT

                              The PINNACLE, Association of Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an Association Meeting to facilitate, consolidate and coordinate the activities of the department at SLCS Annexure building on 12.02.2022 (Saturday). The chief guest of association meeting was Dr. K. Rajeshkumar, Head of the Department of BBA. The association meet started with the prayer song followed by welcome address given by R.Thiyagesh (II Honours).

The Chief Guest introduction was given by Mr. Ravi Shankar, Head of the Department of Commerce (Honours). The following activities were conducted in the session:

  • Paper presentation
    • Mind games
    • Cultural events

The paper presentation was judged by the Chief Guest Dr K.Rajeshkumar. The session ended with the Vote of thanks given by S. Sri Vigneshwari (II Honours). Totally, 63 students participated in the program.

SLCS Samaaj seva – EXTENSION ACTIVITY “SHIELD” – 2021

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science conducted an Extension Activity “SHIELD” on 24.01.2022 at Thiruparakundram, Madurai.  As a part of the activity, the public were reiterated regarding the spread of Omicron virus. They were advised to adhere to the precautionary measures strictly to prevent themselves from the spread of COVID. Mask and sanitizers were issued to them. The entire program was organized and implemented by the students under the guidance of the Head of the Department. Totally 50 people got benefitted by this extension activity. This activity made the public realize the importance of wearing mask and using sanitizers.
