The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai, recently hosted an Alumni Interaction cum Career Guidance Program titled “Anitalk on Advanced Approaches in Modeling and Texturing” on 9th September 2024. The session featured Mr. Karthikeyan, a 3D Generalist at Technicolor in Bangalore and an alumnus from the 2017-2020 batch, who served as the resource person for the event.  He shared his professional insights into advanced modeling and texturing techniques, utilizing industry-standard software such as Autodesk Maya and Blender. His presentation covered essential tools and workflows, emphasizing how these software platforms are used in professional studios to create high-quality visual content. The event also provided a comprehensive overview of career opportunities in 3D modeling, offering students valuable guidance on the skills and industry expectations necessary to succeed. Mr. Karthikeyan’s hands-on approach and real-world examples inspired students to further develop their abilities and explore the creative possibilities within Autodesk Maya and Blender.

Totally 31 Students from III B.Sc. Animation were benefitted through this event.

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) successfully organized an Alumni Interaction cum Career Guidance Program, titled “Anitalk on Exploring Cutting-Edge Innovations in VFX: Trends and Techniques Shaping the Future” on 15th July 2024.  This insightful session featured Mr. Mathan Kumar, an accomplished alumnus from the 2020-23 Batch who is currently working as a Visual Effects Artist at Mango Post Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. The program was specifically designed for I-year B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film Production) students, aiming to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the latest trends and emerging techniques in the field of Visual Effects.

The guest emphasized the significance of staying updated with current trends, such as real-time rendering, AI-driven visual effects, and virtual production, and how these are shaping the future of media production, offered valuable career advice, encouraging students to develop practical skills and adapt to the rapidly evolving demands of the VFX industry. This session was instrumental in providing the students with actionable insights and inspiration to pursue successful careers in the animation and visual effects field. Totally 32 Students benefitted through this event.

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) successfully conducted an Alumni Interaction cum Career Guidance Program on 15th July 2024, titled “Anitalk on Mastering the Art of 3D Lighting: Techniques for Realistic Renders.” The event featured Ms. Jeyadharani, a proud alumnus from the 2020-23 Batch, who currently works as a Lighting Artist at Tata Elxsi Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. Aimed at II-year B.Sc. Animation students, the program was designed to offer in-depth insights into the field of 3D lighting.

The session began with Mr. B. Venkatesh, Assistant Professor – SAMS, introducing  the guest to the participants. Ms. Jeyadharani then shared her extensive knowledge and experience, discussing the latest trends in the 3D industry and the future potential of 3D lighting as a career. She also provided personal anecdotes from her professional journey, highlighting key skills and industry demands. The workshop was highly engaging and informative, with 23 students actively participating, gaining valuable knowledge on mastering lighting techniques to create realistic renders. This event further reinforced the importance of alumni-led programs in helping students stay connected to evolving industry trends and preparing them for professional success.

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) proudly conducted an Alumni Interaction cum Career Guidance Program on 15th July 2024, titled “Anitalk on Immersive Futures: Exploring Gaming, AR, and VR Technologies.” This enriching session featured Mr. K. Sanjay, a distinguished alumnus from the 2020-23 Batch, who currently serves as a Game Designer & Developer at Atina Technology Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad. The event was curated specifically for I-year B.Sc. Animation (Game Design and Development) & III B.Sc. Animation students, with the objective of immersing them in the latest developments and techniques within the rapidly growing fields of Gaming, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR). The program began with an introductory address by Mr. B. Venkatesh, Assistant Professor at SAMS, who warmly welcomed Mr. Sanjay back to the institution and introduced him to the participants. During his presentation, Mr. Sanjay offered valuable insights into the transformative impact of immersive technologies on the entertainment and media industries. He explored a range of topics, including the evolution of gaming mechanics, the integration of AR and VR in interactive storytelling, and the various career opportunities available within these dynamic fields. Totally 37 Students benefitted through this event.

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) hosted a Alumni Interaction cum Career Guidance Program titled “Anitalk on 3D Revolution: Navigating the Latest Industry Trends” conducted by our distinguished alumnus Mr. D. Prabhu (2014-17 Batch), VFX Senior Rigging artist in PhantomFx Studios (Chennai). The event targeted I B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film Production), I B.Sc. Animation (Game Design and Development), III year B.Sc. Animation, III year B.Sc. Visual Communication and P.G.Diploma in Animation Techniques students and aimed to provide insights into career opportunities in the field of 3D.

Mr. A.R.R. Arul Prince Raaj, Assistant Professor – SAMS, introduced
Mr. D. Prabhu to the Participants. He discussed the current landscape and future opportunities within the 3D industry, sharing valuable insights and personal experiences from his professional journey. His comprehensive overview covered essential aspects of 3D, the skills required, and the potential career paths available to aspiring artists.

 The workshop was highly beneficial, with a total of 88 students gaining valuable knowledge and inspiration from the event, underscoring the importance of such interactions in bridging academic learning with industry practices.

SAMS FUN FRIDAY

The School of Animation and Media Studies inaugurated its monthly event for this Academic Year, “Fun Friday,” on June 21, 2024, on the day of World Music Day. The event was a vibrant showcase of student talents, featuring both singing and instrumental performances. The gathering took place in room S52 from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. A total of 70 students participated in the event.

Yogeshwaran S M, student of III B.Sc. Visual Communication delivered the welcome address, setting a positive and enthusiastic tone for the event. The Head cum Assistant Professor of the School, Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, addressed the audience and appreciated the students for their participation and encouraged them to engage actively in future events, emphasizing the importance of such activities in fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed members of the institution’s administration. Principal Dr. R. Sujatha, Vice Principal Dr. Guru Baskar, and Dean of Academics Dr. S. Priya attended, showing their support for the students and the event. Additionally, Mrs. Suganthi Hepzibha, the IQAC Assistant Coordinator, was in attendance, along with the faculty members and students of the School of Animation and Media Studies.

“Fun Friday” promises to be a recurring highlight in the department, aimed at encouraging creativity, building community spirit, and providing a platform for students to express their artistic talents. The successful inauguration has set a promising precedent for the upcoming events, ensuring that the School of Animation and Media Studies remains a lively and dynamic place for both learning and creative expression.

“SAMS SCREEN SAGA” – “THE PRESTIGE”

“SAMS SCREEN SAGA”, a movie screening event was organized for the students of “School of Animation and Media Studies” on 08.06.2024 from 11.00 am to 01.30 pm.

The movie “THE PRESTIGE” was screened to the students which was a thriller film directed by Christopher Nolan, released in the year 2006.

The movie is about a Period thriller set in Edwardian London where two rival magicians, partners until the tragic death of an assistant during a show, feud bitterly after one of them performs the ultimate magic trick – teleportation. His rival tries desperately to uncover the secret of his routine, experimenting with dangerous new science as his quest takes him to the brink of insanity and jeopardizes the lives of everyone around the pair.

Students completely enjoyed the movie and learned new techniques from the movie.
Mr. S. Naveen Kumar, Assistant professor, School of Animation and Media Studies, have organized the screening event.

The students of II & III year B.Sc., Animation and Visual Communication (Film & Television production specialization) have attended the event. Totally 56 students have attended the screening.

Innovative Ideas for Entrepreneurship through Mega Sales (Demo) Day

The Department of Animation in association with IIC organized the Event entitled “Innovative Ideas for Entrepreneurship through Mega Sales (Demo) Day – SLCS Santhai 2022” on 26.11.2022 at the College Premises. Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal –SLCS and Dr.M. Subramanian, Head-MBA were the Chief Guests for the event. The main objectives of the event are to impart the passion towards entrepreneurship among the young generation through innovation practices, as well as to identify and expose the students’ promotional abilities through their participation. The Chief Guests addressed the students to learn the fundamental concepts of start-ups and innovative ideas for developing entrepreneurship skills and also to develop entrepreneurship skills while learning about the product, cost – effectiveness, and Management Skills. The Student participated actively and Demonstrated their presentation skill sets through banner & product displays, which created a basic idea of entrepreneurship through Innovative ideas and executed various strategies to sell their products. The Event ended productively and totally 179 students benefitted through this event.

ART FROM WASTE COMPETITION

Art & Media Club of Animation Department organized an “Art from Waste Competition” in the Animation Classroom – I held on 13.04.2023 from 08.00 am to 10.30 am. “REGARD BEFORE YOU DISCARD” is the main theme of the competition and it is one such craft which follows this environmental friendly principle and at the same time creates useful and attractive objects out of waste products. Young hands and imaginative minds came together in a creative burst of energy. Mind-blowing, beyond expectation, fantabulous ideas were demonstrated by students. They prepared very creative and innovative models and art items from different waste materials. They used reusable and recyclable materials like newspapers, shoe boxes, bangles, ice cream stick’s and much more. From these items, they created an amazing array of display items and useful everyday objects leaving everyone totally impressed. The values like preservation, recycling, conservation, reduce, reuse etc. are imbibed on the young heart and minds by demonstrating this noble act of caring our environment.

Totally 38 Students (19 Teams) from various departments participated in the competition.

From these items, they created an amazing array of display items and useful everyday objects leaving everyone totally impressed. The values like preservation, recycling, conservation, reduce, reuse etc. are imbibed on the young heart and minds by demonstrating this noble act of caring our environment.
