GAME DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE – 11.10.2025

The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies, SLCS, successfully organized the game event “Game Development Initiative” on 11th October 2025 at Animation Academic Lab – 2 from 12:40 PM to 1:30 PM. A total of 18 students from B.Sc., Animation (Game Design & Development Specialization) has actively participated in the event. The program was conducted with the objective of providing a platform for students to develop and implement game ideas, enhance their technical and creative skills, and gain practical experience in game development.

The event involved hands-on activities where students worked collaboratively to design and develop game concepts. Participants demonstrated creativity, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork throughout the session.

The event was well-organized and received positive feedback from the participants. Overall, the program was a successful initiative that contributed to the practical exposure and skill development of the students.

Board of Studies Meeting 2025-26 Even Semester

The Board of Studies meeting for the even semester of the Academic Year 2025-26 was conducted on 10.09.2025 (Wednesday) between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM through blended mode. The meeting was conducted for the programmes: III Year B.Sc. Animation, B.Sc. Visual Communication (Film & Television Production Specialization), I & II Year B.Sc. Animation (Game Design and Development Specialization), and B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film Production Specialization). Dr. Karpaga Sundaram, HoD & Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Communication, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Srivilliputhur, and Dr. Orusol Vasagan, Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Communication, Bishop Heber College (Autonomous), Trichy, participated as the Academic Experts. Mr. Bala Seyameshwaran, Managing Director, Seyamesh Solutions, Madurai, participated as the Industry Expert. Mr. Dhanabalan, our alumnus of the 2012-15 batch of B.Sc. Animation, currently working as Senior 3D Generalist AR/VR at Tech Mahindra, Bengaluru, participated as the Alumni Member. Mr. Lenin Pisone Raj and Mr. Venu Madhavan from II Year, along with their parents, participated as Student & Parent Members. Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head (i/c) cum Assistant Professor, Chairman of the Board of Studies meeting, presented the syllabus and placed the resolutions for approval. The faculty members of the School of Animation and Media Studies actively participated by making all the necessary arrangements. The external members took part in the discussions, gave their valuable suggestions, and the same were incorporated into the syllabi.

“Parent Teachers Meeting September 2025”

School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) have conducted “Parent Teachers Meetingfor the Odd Semester of Academic Year 2025-26 on 6.9.25, Saturday between 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM. The parents and students of I, II Year of B.Sc., Animation (Game Design and Development Specialization), B.Sc., Animation (Visual Effects and Film Production Specialization), III Year of B.Sc., Animation and B.Sc., Visual Communication (Film and Television Production Specialization) have participated. The following key matters are discussed in the meeting, Student’s Academic Performances, Course wise attendance, Assignment and Project submission status, student’s participation and achievements in the co-curricular activities, Details of Add on Courses offered for the students, Internship process for final year students and any other points brought forward by the parents. Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head (i/c) cum Assistant Professor, welcomed all the parents and shared the importance of conducting Parent Teachers Meeting. The first year class mentors Mr.S.Naveen Kumar and Mr.R.Arul Yogaraj, AP-SAMS, Second year class mentors Mr.B.Venkatesh and Mr.A.K.Branesh, AP-SAMS, III Year Class mentors Mr.A.R.R.Arul Prince Raaj and Mrs.K.Jansi Rani, AP-SAMS have presented the ward details to their parents individually. Totally 68 students and their parents have actively participated in the meeting and shared their feedbacks.

FILM SCREENING – 30.08.2025

The Medius Coronet Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies organised an “film screening” session of the film “Rango” on 11.10.2025 from 12.40 PM to 2.00 PM for the students of First and Second year of B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film production Specialization) and Final year students of B.Sc. Visual Communication (Film and Television Production Specialization) at Animation Academic Lab – 2 (S47). Mr.S.Naveen Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Animation and Media Studies decode the movie and help the students to do analysis.

Desperate to fit in, he reinvents himself as “Rango,” a tough, fearless gunslinger. Through exaggerated storytelling and luck, he convinces the townspeople—and even himself—that he’s a hero. The town, suffering from a severe water shortage, appoints him as sheriff.

As Rango tries to live up to his own legend, he uncovers a conspiracy involving the town’s missing water, controlled by the powerful mayor, a tortoise named Mayor Tortoise John. Along the way, he befriends a desert iguana named Beans and faces dangerous outlaws.

Eventually, Rango is forced to confront the truth: he’s not the brave hero he pretends to be. After losing confidence and leaving town, he has a moment of self-discovery and realizes that being a hero isn’t about pretending—it’s about doing the right thing despite fear.

Rango’s desire for education and play, and his journey to escape his bonded labor. It also encourages critical thinking about societal issues by showcasing how cultural differences and awareness can challenge dominant narratives of oppression.

SHORT FILM SCREENING – 30.08.2025

The Medius Coronet Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies organised an “film screening” session of the short film “kavi” on 30.08.2025 from 12.40 PM to 1.30 PM for the students of First and Second year of B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film production Specialization) and Final year students of B.Sc. Visual Communication (Film and Television Production Specialization) at Animation Academic Lab – 2 (S47).

The short film is about the story of a young boy who attempts to escape from the brick kiln where he is forced to work as a bonded labor slave in India.Gregg Helvey, in 19 minutes of the running movie, vividly display Kavi’s desire to live like other kids, to hold a pen and play cricket on the field grounds with other children his age. His desires aren’t luxurious. They are basic human rights that every child, man and woman is entitled to. While his parents have given up on their dreams, in Kavi, there is a fire burning in his heart. He wants to be free, to be alive.

The film taught the students the importance of fighting for fundamental rights and freedom, as seen in the protagonist kavi’s desire for education and play, and his journey to escape his bonded labor. It also encourages critical thinking about societal issues by showcasing how cultural differences and awareness can challenge dominant narratives of oppression.

LEVEL UP: GAME DESIGN CHALLENGE- 02.08.2025

The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies, SLCS, successfully organized the game event “Level Up: Game Design Challenge” on 30th August 2025 at Animation Academic Lab – 2 from 12:40 PM to 1:30 PM. A total of 20 students from B.Sc. Animation (Game Design and Development Specialization) actively participated in the event. The program was conducted with the objective of encouraging students to design innovative game concepts while enhancing their problem-solving, creativity, and technical skills.

The event included interactive challenges where students applied game design principles, demonstrated teamwork, and showcased their creativity. Participants actively engaged in the activities and exhibited strong interest and enthusiasm throughout the session. The event was well-organized and received positive feedback from the participants. Overall, the program was a successful initiative that contributed to the practical learning and skill development of the students.

PIXEL POWER: GAMING EXPERIENCE DAY- 02.08.2025

The D. P. Roy Choudhury Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies, SLCS, successfully organized the game-based event “Pixel Power: Gaming Experience Day” on 02nd August 2025 at Animation Academic Lab – 3 (S64) from 12:40 PM to 1:30 PM. A total of 21 students from B.Sc. Animation (Game Design and Development Specialization) actively participated in the event. The program was conducted with the objective of providing an interactive platform for students to explore game design concepts, enhance creativity, and develop technical skills through engaging gaming activities.

The session commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Mr. Venu Madhavan K, setting a positive tone for the program. The event was smoothly hosted by Ms. Darshinii P who efficiently coordinated the flow of activities. The program concluded with a vote of thanks (valedictory address) given by Ms. Hemalatha expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers.

The event included interactive sessions and hands-on experiences that encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking among participants. Students enthusiastically engaged in the activities and showcased their interest in game design and development. The event was well-organized and received positive feedback from the participants. Overall, “Pixel Power: Gaming Experience Day” was a successful initiative that contributed to the academic enrichment and practical exposure of the students.

FILM SCREENING – 02.08.2025

The Medius Coronet Association of the School of Animation and Media Studies organised a “film screening” session of the movie ” Grave of the Fireflies” on 02.08.2025 from 12.40 PM to 1.30 PM for the students of First and Second year of B.Sc. Animation (Visual Effects and Film production Specialization) and Final year students of B.Sc. Visual Communication (Film and Television Production Specialization)

The movie “Grave of the Fireflies” is based on a true story from the author Akiyuki Nosaka’s own life, specifically his experiences as a child during the firebombing of Kobe in World War II.

The story, and the subsequent animated film, depict the struggle for survival of an older brother and his younger sister after their mother dies, culminating in the younger sister’s death from malnutrition.

Students learnt profound lessons about the senselessness of war, the devastating impact on innocent civilians, the resilience of the human spirit, and the critical importance of empathy and humility. Students also learnt about a lot of new techniques used in the movie.

Overall, the session was highly informative and encouraged attendees to learn a lot about various ways and techniques of Animation. Mr.S.Naveen Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Animation and Media Studies decode the movie and help the students to do analysis.

Webinar on “ The First Step Towards Writing a Research Paper”

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS), in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Cell (CDC), successfully conducted a webinar titled “The First Step Towards Writing a Research Paper” on April 25, 2024, at 3:00 PM via Google Meet. This session was graced by two eminent speakers: Dr. R. Sujatha, Principal of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science (SLCS), Madurai, and Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Associate Professor & Placement Coordinator from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. Dr. S. Priya, Dean Academics, SLCS and Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor, SAMS – SLCS were the conveners of the event. A total of 102 students                  participated in the session.

Dr. R. Sujatha provided valuable insights into structuring research papers and highlighted the significance of academic integrity in scholarly work. Her presentation delved into the importance of adhering to ethical practices in research, including proper citation and plagiarism prevention.

Dr. M. Vijayakumar elaborated on effective research methodologies, emphasizing the need for a well-defined problem statement and a comprehensive literature review. He also addressed the nuances of drafting a compelling abstract, formulating hypotheses, and designing experiments or studies to support research objectives.

The webinar also covered significant topics that were particularly useful for NET (National Eligibility Test) aspirants. It also emphasized critical aspects of research writing, including selecting relevant and impactful topics, conducting systematic reviews, and ensuring clarity and coherence in writing. The webinar served as a foundational guide for budding researchers, inspiring them to approach academic writing.

The Art of Motion Emerging Trends and Career Paths

The School of Animation and Media Studies (SAMS) recently hosted a Career Guidance Program titled “The Art of Motion: Emerging Trends and Career Paths.” The event brought together an esteemed panel of resource persons, including Mr. Praveen Mahimainadhan, Founder – Mystic Media House, Ms. Maria Nancy, CEO – Mystic Media House, and Mr. Maran, Vice President – Mystic Media House, who shared their expertise and insights into the ever-evolving animation and media industry. A total of 58 students (III B.Sc. Animation – 23, II B.Sc. Animation – 32, PG Diploma in Animation Techniques – 3) participated in the session.

The program began with a welcome address delivered by Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head cum Assistant Professor of SAMS. In his address, he emphasized the importance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between academia and industry, encouraging students to leverage the knowledge shared by the resource persons.

The session explored various domains, highlighting emerging trends in animation, motion graphics, and visual storytelling. The speakers delved into the rapidly expanding opportunities in the field, ranging from entertainment and advertising to education and virtual reality. Mr. Praveen Mahimainadhan shared his journey as a founder, focusing on the entrepreneurial aspects and creative processes involved in motion design. Ms. Maria Nancy provided an in-depth perspective on leading an organization in the animation industry, discussing leadership, project management, and client relations. Mr. Maran, with his vast experience, shed light on the role of technology, innovation, and strategic planning in shaping successful careers in motion design. The speakers also emphasized the importance of continuous learning, networking, and staying updated with technological advancements.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. M. Abdul Aziz Hakkim, Assistant Professor of SAMS, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons for their time and insights, and to the organizing team for their efforts in making the program a success.
