Virtual Seminar on “Celebration of 125th Birth Years of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose”

National Service Scheme of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised virtual seminar as commemorative events for celebrating 125th birth year of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on 23rd January 2021. Students actively participated and shared their view points. 43 students voluntarily participated in this extensive Program. The NSS Program Officer Mr.R.Dhamotharan reliably delivered the key note address on the Nethaji’s Life.

Disaster Emergency Response Training

The Department of Fire and Industrial Safety organized a Disaster Management Emergency Response Training for the Teaching and Non- teaching Staff members and B.Sc (Fire and Industrial Safety) 72 members at Alagarkovil, Madurai on 23/01/2021. The principal, Dr.R.Sujatha welcomed the staff members. The Department HoD, Mr .I. Vivek Ramkumar inaugurated the training programme. Mr R.Brameshwaran, Assistant Professor gave an overview about Disaster Management and compered the program. Mr B.Satheeshprabhu, Mr P.Navaneethakrishnan, Mr V.Dhamotharan and Mr A.Jaiveer Kumar, Assistant Professors spoke about Life saving skills during Biological Disasters, Landslides, Forest fires and Floods. The II year Students demonstrated Emergency Carrying Techniques and the III year students demonstrated about the CPR Technique and First Aid for Fracture, Choking and Poisoning.

The HoD spoke about the importance of trekking and the Teaching and Non- teaching Staff members went for a trek in the Alagarkovil Hills.

The program was conducted to create awareness during Emergency situations  and  the  Preventive measures to be adopted during  Disasters .

Totally 72 Members [Teaching staff-46, Non Teaching staff-17, Students-9] Participated in this program.

ARMED FORCES FLAG DAY

The Electoral Literacy Club of Subbalakshmi College of Science, Madurai organized the Armed forces Flag Day to commemorate the soldiers who had sacrificed their life to defend country in times of danger and external threat.  It is a rare opportunity for us to create awareness among the students about the Armed forces Flag Day.  On behalf Electoral Literacy club, the student Secretary Jeayanthan of I B.Sc Animation  and Asst. Secretary Ashwika of I B.Com Hons (ACCA) had gone to  all the classes to create awareness about the day and they collected the fund amount worth Rs. 8110/- as the contribution for armed forces flag day. The amount was sent to the respective Defence account of our Indian Government.

Celebration of The Yuva Diwas in Shyamalavani

The National Youth Day or The Yuva Diwas was celebrated at Subblakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science on 12 January to commemorate the 158th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Dr.S.Priya, Dean Academics and Ms. Neela, an adhoc faculty of Hindi department addressed the community youth on behalf of SLCS through Shyamalavani 90.4 FM Community Radio. In their address the theme of the year “YUVAAH – Utsah Naye Bharat Ka” was instigated. Swami Vivekananda’s message, “Whatever you think, that you will be. If you think yourselves weak, weak you will be; if you think yourselves strong, strong you will be.” was asked to be felt by the youth of the community.

They also said that Swami Vivekananda believed in youth power and the youth must show their power and strength in bringing about awareness on protecting people and teaching them how to confront themselves from Covid-19 pandemic. Their actions must cross the religious, social and political barriers. Unity and innovation must be the aim of today’s youth and they must have in them a sense to Awake, Arise and stop not till their goal is reached. Totally 2 members participated. People in and around the community got benefitted through the program.

PONGAL VIZHA VERSE WRITING COMPETITION

The Department of Tamil Celebrated the Pongal Vizha on 12.01.2021. Verse Writing  competition was conducted through Google Meet.The students were asked to write the Verses on their own topics and were informed to Post it through google meet link. For the Verse writing competition, the students were asked to record a video and were informed to post it in the link. The assesment was done by the members of the Tamil Department. 5 Students Participated in Verse writing.The first prize was won by K.Jaiviswa,II BBA. R.Rukumani,III B.com(B&I) got the II prize.

PONGAL VIZHA ELOCUTION COMPETITION

The Department of Tamil celebrated the Pongal Vizha on 12.01.2021. Elocution Competitions was conducted through Google Meet.The students were asked to record a video and were informed to Post it in the link. The students were able expose their speaking talents through the competition. The assessment was done by the members of the Tamil Department. Totally 6 students participated in the Elocution competition. First prize was won by K.Jai Vishwa,II BBA, I.Swetha,II Animation got II prize and K.Ragavi,II B.Com(Honours) got III prize.

Tamil Essay Competition on National Youth Day

National Service Scheme of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science properly conducted tamil local Essay competition to justly celebrate “National Youth Day” for local SLCS students. Tamil essay on “Swami Vivekanandha’s Dream on youth” was written by the students .The students were allowed to submit their work on or before 11th January 2021. The E certificates were provided to 12 students and the best 3 contributions selected to efficiently deliver their independent thoughts in local Shyamlavani Community radio. The student names are as follows.

Awareness on Banking Schemes

Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) organized a lecture on “Awareness on Banking Schemes” for the non-teaching staff of SLCS. Mr.Veerasamy, Senior Associate, CUB delivered the lecture. He explained the banking schemes with real life examples and interacted with the staff members. He also clarified their queries. 14 members participated and they felt that it was very useful for them.

Alumni interaction

The Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) organized an Interactive session with Mr.Ashwin Kumar, Alumni (Batch 2013-2016) for the I B.Com (B&I) students. He explained how to clear the DBF & Licentiate exams in a single attempt and stressed the importance of Value Added Courses in Placements. He also shared his experience as a Banker. Around 56 students participated in the session. The students were able to clarify their doubts and were  of the opinion that the session was greatly beneficial and confidence providing.

SLCS SamaajSeva -“Digital Literacy”

SLCS SamaajSeva – an extension activity on “Digital Literacy” was organised by the “Lakshya” the Department Association of MBA Program on 8th Jan 2022, at 9.30 am in the Govt School, Arittapatti, Near Melur, Madurai. The event was organised to facilitate the awareness in learning and comprehending various aspects of Social responsibility among the school students. Dr. S. Pugalanthi, Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep were the program Co-ordinators and our 9 MBA students (I MBA-2 Nos & II- MBA 7 Nos.) organised this program. Totally 44 students from the Arittapatti Govt. School got benefited out of this program.
