OUT DOOR CATERING (ODC) AT DHUVATHASANTHAM CONVENTION HALL, MADURAI

The second- and first-year students (34 students) from the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management were given an opportunity to participate in the BNI Mega Members’ Day Dinner at Dhuvathasantham Convention Hall, Madurai, on 14.12.2024. The event was organized by NRK Catering, Madurai. Through this event, the students were able to gain knowledge about outlet operation procedures and enhance their skills in production, service, and presentation. They also practiced mise en place work and learned many modern techniques. This hands-on experience motivated the students and provided valuable practical exposure.

 

CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON “CYBER SECURITY AND PENETRATION TESTING”

Department of Computer Science (SSS & DSA) organized a Career Development Program for the I year and II year students on 02.01.2025. Mr. PrasanthIlangovan enlightened the students towards cyber security. He gave clear idea about choosing higher education courses related to Cyber Security field. He created awareness on network and cybercrime security and also the opportunities available in the Industries. Totally, 129 students got benefited by this Career Development Program. The points discussed are given below.

Encouraged to maintain discipline and to do self-learning. He advised to use bug bounty and make the google as mentor. He encouraged to rebuild the knowledge. And spoke about E&Y Company, OSCP certification course. He explained about how we are consistent and getting knowledge from teaching. He advised to concentrate the students to know about what the companies wanted from us.

“Industrial Visit to Kerala” from 24/01/2025 to 26/01/2025

The Department of Commerce (Honours) organized an Industrial Visit to Kerala from 24/01/2025 to 26/01/2025. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the tourism, hospitality, and business environment in Kerala.During the visit, students had the opportunity to observe the functioning of tourism-related businesses and understand how the hospitality sector operates. They were introduced to various aspects of tourism management, customer service practices, and the role of tourism in regional economic development. The visit also helped students gain insights into local business activities and service sector operations.The trip enabled students to connect their classroom learning with real-world business practices and enhanced their understanding of management and service industry operations. The visit also provided an opportunity for students to interact with professionals and learn about the importance of teamwork, organization, and customer satisfaction in the tourism industry.A total of 41 students and 2 faculty members participated in the industrial visit. The trip was highly informative and offered students valuable exposure and learning experience outside the classroom.The visit concluded successfully, leaving the students with memorable experiences and improved practical knowledge related to their field of study.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO NAGA FOODS, DINDIGUL

Department of B.Com. (Honours) organized an industrial visit to Naga foods, Dindigul on 26.08.2023 ( Saturday). Totally, 40 students and 2 faculties participated in the event. The industrial visit was planned to explore the production activity, management process, technology in a manufacturing unit. Naga is one of the reputed companies that provide a wide range of wheat Flour/Maida all around Tamil Nadu. The industrial personnel interacted with students and they taught about varieties of products in Naga foods and its manufacturing process.

The visit helped the students to become more aware of industrial practice and regulations and also provides opportunity for experiential learning outside the classroom environment.

ALUMNI INTERACTION MEET

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of SubbalakshmiLakshmipathy College of Science organised“Alumni Interaction Meet” focusing on clearing CA Exam.Our prominent Alumni and CA Finalist T.Gayathri Shree of 2018-2024 batch addressed the session on 01/03/2024. She shared her experience of clearing CA Intermediate exams. She focused on opportunities associated with the field of commerce. The session was organized to nurture the educational thought among the students. She educated the participants with the essential tips and techniques to be developed by CA Aspirants. Totally, 44students participated and got benefitted through the session. The participants felt the session a much needed and fruitful for their career.

 

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM FOR CA ASPIRANTS – SELF PREPARATIVE APPROACH

The Department of Commerce (Honours) of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science organised a “Career Guidance program for CA Aspirants – Self preparative approach” on 31.07.2023 focusing on clearing CA competitive exams.  CA Niranjankumar,practicing Chartered Accountant at Madurai& CA Finalist Mr. P.Karuppasamyaddressed the session. The programme focused on tools and techniques applied in CA competitive exams (CA foundation, intermediate, CMA). During the session the participants were educated on choosing an appropriate career path (both professional and higher studies) related to field of commerce.Totally, 44 students participated and got benefitted through the session. The participants felt the session a much needed and fruitful for their career.At the end of the session the  students  individually interacted with the resource person and cleared their queries.

PARENTS TEACHERS MEET

As a part of academic process, the department organized the Parents Teachers Meet for I, II and III year students on 28.02.2024 from 2.30pm to  4.45 pm with the presence of the Head of the Department and Program Coordinators. There was a discussion regarding Continuous Internal test I marks and CA Foundation Course Results. The schedule for preparing For the next attempt, which is to be held on December 2024 was shared with the parents.

In this meeting with the consent of all parents, it was decided to give remedial classes for students in major subjects. Parents requested to conduct mock test for students on periodical basis.  This decision was unanimously accepted by the Head of the Department.

All the queries raised by the parents were clarified. Totally, 69 Students participated in the session.  The session ended with the feedback of the parents collected through structured feedback form.

 

“Extension Activity on SLCS – SAAMAJ SEVA – Prevention of Dengue Spread in the Nedumadurai Village”

       The Department of Commerce (Honours) organised an “Extension Activity on SLCS – SAAMAJ SEVA – Prevention of Dengue Spread at one of our adopted villages Nedumadurai”, Madurai, Tamilnadu on 30.09.2023 (Saturday). During this event, our III year students actively participated in the extension activity at Nedumadurai Village. During the program, students were exposed to the importance of social responsibility. The village people were educated about environmental values. They created an awareness of dengue spread. The extension activities were conducted in a motive to create societal well – being among village people. Totally, 30 students participated in the event and got benefitted.

“World Consumer Right Day Celebration – Consumer Protection in Digital Era”

The Department of Commerce (Honours) organised the “World Consumer Right Day Celebration – Consumer Protection in Digital Era” (Wednesday). Students were learned to raise awareness of the rights and obligations of consumers as outlined in the Indian Constitution, the Consumer Protection Act, and other Indian legislation during the program. They learned about actual circumstances and also developed the ability to deal with customer concerns. This program helps in knowing about consumer rights and how the consumer commission handles consumer issues is very beneficial to the people. Totally, 69 students and 2 faculty members participated in the program and got benefitted.

PEER TEACHING SESSION ON AMALGAMATION

On November 29, 2024, the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) hosted a peer teaching session on the topic Amalgamation, which was conducted by Ms. Lakhmipriya from the III B.Com (Banking and Insurance) class. She provided an opportunity for students to learn about the concept of amalgamation, its procedures, and its importance in the context of banking and insurance.

The session was designed to enhance the understanding of students regarding this complex subject through peer-to-peer teaching, making the learning process more engaging and interactive. Ms. Lakhmipriya, with her expertise in the area, shared detailed insights on how amalgamation works, particularly in the business and financial sectors.

The session not only provided academic knowledge but also encouraged peer collaboration and learning, helping students gain a deeper understanding of the topic.
