Seminar on Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Packaging Industry

D.P.Roy Choudhury Association of Animation department organized a Seminar on “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Packaging Industry” on 27.06.2023 at the Animation Academic Lab-I at 11.00 A.M.

Mr.Krishnan, Founder, Yellow bag Foundation, Madurai was the Chief Guest for the event. Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor, Dept. of Animation welcomed the guest and thanked him for spending time with the students of the college. The Guest addressed the students that, Packaging is important for various reasons. First and foremost, it protects the products when being handled and shipped to the various retail locations, making sure the customers don’t receive broken items that need to be returned or exchanged. As a marketing tool, packaging plays an important role too. He also insisted that Packaging allows for the product to reach the consumer in the most economical way possible and creates ease of storage. He concluded the speech with the points that Packaging innovation seeks to increase resource efficiency, eliminate waste and reduce environmental impact through improved design and the use of alternative materials. The Event ended fruitfully andtotally 55 students from II, III B.Sc. Animation were benefitted through this event.

 

Workshop on 2D Animation: Script to Screen

D.P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation department organized a Two days’ Workshop on “2D Animation: Script to Screen” on August 23 & 24, 2023 at the Animation Academic Lab – I. The Students from I, II, III B. Sc. Animation were participated in the workshop.

The Program started with the welcome address by Mr.P.Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum AssistantProfessor, Dept. of Animation and the presidential address was delivered by Dr.R.Sujatha, Principal-SLCS. Mr.Marimuthu, Freelance 2D Artist from Chennai was the Chief Guest for the Workshop.

He took the students through2D Foundation Art, drawing for animation, animation principles & techniques. He also taught the essentials of animation analysis as well as animation layout using traditional and digital techniques. He showed that how to create drawings between Key Frames and how to clean-up and prepare drawings for Colour Correction & Colour balance process & the techniques of creating Key drawings.

          He helped the students during the practice session and the doubts were wonderfully clarified by the resource person. The Workshop ended productively and totally
75 Students were benefitted through this event.

 

“FIRELESS COOKING COMPETITION”

The Culinary Club of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Intra-College Fireless Cooking Competition on December 9, 2024. A total of 20 students from various departments actively participated in the event. The participants prepared and presented a variety of traditional dishes, including millet-based dishes, sprout sandwiches, milkshakes, fruit juices, tender coconut payasam, millet and date laddus, and more. The dishes were judged by Mr. Gopi Virumandi, Executive Chef at Amika Hotel, Madurai. He engaged with the students, discussing the ingredients, nutritional values, and the cultural significance of the dishes they had prepared. S. Pooja and M. Bavanieswari from the Department of BBA won the first prize, and M. Gayathri and K. Mahalakshmi from the Department of FSPM won the second prize. The event not only provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity and decision-making skills but also helped them explore their hidden talents and discover new areas of interest.

SEMINAR ON “ENTREPRENEURIAL IDEAS IN HOTEL INDUSTRY”

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a seminar on “Entrepreneurial Ideas in the Hotel Industry” on 04.12 2024. A total of 72 first and second-year students from MC&HM actively participated. The resource person, Mr. N.G. Senthil Kumar, Business Consulting Director of Pro Elite Management Consultants Pvt. Ltd., Madurai, shared valuable insights into innovative entrepreneurship in the hotel and hospitality sector.He emphasized the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry, focusing on the role of technology and sustainability in shaping future businesses. He discussed the strategies such as identifying niche markets, leveraging digital tools, and enhancing customer experiences, along with examples of successful start-ups and established brands.The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where students and faculty discussed trends, challenges, and opportunities. The seminar was highly informative, inspiring students to explore innovation and entrepreneurship in the competitive hospitality industry.

SLCS-SAMAAJSEVA- OUTREACH ACTIVITY ON “SWACHHTA HI SEVA – CLEANLINESS IS SERVICE”

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized SLCS-SamaajSevaoutreach Activity on “SWACHHTA HI SEVA- Cleanliness is Service”, as a cleaning activity at Keeladi,Madurai, on 27.11.24.The students created awareness among the rural people by providing pamphlets to them and suggesting them to create a green environment in their surroundings. As a part of the program, they collected plastic waste; Students actively participated in the program by giving in their full support, which made it a great success. The people in the village appreciated the efforts made by the students and the coordinator. Totally, 43students took part in this program.

 Outcome of the Program

Towards the end of the program, the students learned a sense of civic responsibility among participants and strengthened community bonds through collaborative efforts towards a cleaner, greener future as well.

 

 

 

 

 

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TOREGIONAL COFFEE RESEARCH STATION, KODAIKANAL TALUK

The Department of Commerce (Banking & Insurance) organized an industrial visit to the Regional Coffee Research Station, Thandigudi on September 21, 2023. Totally, 78 III B. Com. (B&I) students, along with two faculty members, Mrs. V. Padmavathy (HOD) and Mr. N. Arunkumar, visited the factory. The students were briefed on the evolution, founder of the company, management team, and functional departments. The students were able to witness the production process of coffee powder. Students interacted well with employees of Regional Coffee to clarify their doubts. Students maintained discipline during the industrial visit.

INTER COLLEGIATE MEET

                                   Virudhunagar Hindu Nadars Senthikumara Nadar College, Virudhunagar organized an Inter Collegiate Meet on 09.02.2024.Totally, 42 Students from I & II Year of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) participated in the Inter Collegiate Meet. Mrs. R.Nithya Kalyani, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) accompanied the students. Mr. Abishek and Mr. Angeswaran of II B.Com (B&I) received first prize in Quiz competition and Mr. Yuvasanth from II B.COM (B&I) got third prize in Photography competition. The participants received awards for the active participation in all the events.

INTER COLLEGIATE MEET

         Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College organized an Inter Collegiate Meet on 20.02.2024. Totally, 42 Students from I & II Year of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) participated in the Inter Collegiate Meet. Mrs. R.Nithya Kalyani, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) accompanied the students. Miss. Nandhini and Miss. Shivani of II B.COM (B&I) received the first Prize in Fireless Cooking competition and Miss. Keerthiga and Miss. Shoba from I B.COM (B&I) got first prize in Rangoli. The participants received awards for the active participation in all the events.

ALUMNI INTERACTION

An ALUMNI INTERACTION program was organized by the Department of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) on 23rd September 2023 in Hall No : 112, welcomed two alumni, Ms. Abinaya and Ms. Hema from the 2020-2023 batch, who are now working as Junior Associates at City Union Bank (CUB). The program aimed to help students understand the transition from college to the professional world, provide information about the Diploma in Banking and Finance (DBF) exam, and support the students in building their skills and confidence.
During the session, the alumni shared their real-life experiences and challenges after college, giving students valuable insights into the professional world. This interaction strengthened the connection between alumni and current students, creating an encouraging and supportive environment. The alumni also guided students on academics and co-curricular activities, helping them better understand how to prepare for their careers. The event was highly beneficial, leaving students inspired and more confident about their future.

FRESHER’S DAY

The Fresher’s Day Program was organized for I B.Com (B&I) students by the Department of Commerce (B&I) and CUENTAS Club on July 29, 2023. The program commenced with a prayer song. Ms. Vinodhini of III B.Com (B&I) welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. S. Priya Dean- Academics. Mrs. V. Padmavathy – Head of the Department, Mr. N. Arun Kumar, and Mrs. E. Hema conducted the ice-breaking session for the first-year students.

CUENTAS Club torch bearers were selected on Fresher’s Day which is mentioned below as follows:
