PARENTS TEACHERS MEET

As a part of academic process, the department organized the Parents Teachers Meet for I, II and III year students on 28.02.2024 from 2.30pm to  4.45 pm with the presence of the Head of the Department and Program Coordinators. There was a discussion regarding Continuous Internal test I marks and CA Foundation Course Results. The schedule for preparing For the next attempt, which is to be held on December 2024 was shared with the parents.

In this meeting with the consent of all parents, it was decided to give remedial classes for students in major subjects. Parents requested to conduct mock test for students on periodical basis.  This decision was unanimously accepted by the Head of the Department.

All the queries raised by the parents were clarified. Totally, 69 Students participated in the session.  The session ended with the feedback of the parents collected through structured feedback form.

 

“Extension Activity on SLCS – SAAMAJ SEVA – Prevention of Dengue Spread in the Nedumadurai Village”

       The Department of Commerce (Honours) organised an “Extension Activity on SLCS – SAAMAJ SEVA – Prevention of Dengue Spread at one of our adopted villages Nedumadurai”, Madurai, Tamilnadu on 30.09.2023 (Saturday). During this event, our III year students actively participated in the extension activity at Nedumadurai Village. During the program, students were exposed to the importance of social responsibility. The village people were educated about environmental values. They created an awareness of dengue spread. The extension activities were conducted in a motive to create societal well – being among village people. Totally, 30 students participated in the event and got benefitted.

“World Consumer Right Day Celebration – Consumer Protection in Digital Era”

The Department of Commerce (Honours) organised the “World Consumer Right Day Celebration – Consumer Protection in Digital Era” (Wednesday). Students were learned to raise awareness of the rights and obligations of consumers as outlined in the Indian Constitution, the Consumer Protection Act, and other Indian legislation during the program. They learned about actual circumstances and also developed the ability to deal with customer concerns. This program helps in knowing about consumer rights and how the consumer commission handles consumer issues is very beneficial to the people. Totally, 69 students and 2 faculty members participated in the program and got benefitted.

PEER TEACHING SESSION ON AMALGAMATION

On November 29, 2024, the Department of Commerce (Banking and Insurance) hosted a peer teaching session on the topic Amalgamation, which was conducted by Ms. Lakhmipriya from the III B.Com (Banking and Insurance) class. She provided an opportunity for students to learn about the concept of amalgamation, its procedures, and its importance in the context of banking and insurance.

The session was designed to enhance the understanding of students regarding this complex subject through peer-to-peer teaching, making the learning process more engaging and interactive. Ms. Lakhmipriya, with her expertise in the area, shared detailed insights on how amalgamation works, particularly in the business and financial sectors.

The session not only provided academic knowledge but also encouraged peer collaboration and learning, helping students gain a deeper understanding of the topic.

CAREER LIFT- EMPOWERING FINAL YEAR- STUDENTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAREER TRANSITION

The Department of Master of Business Administration (MBA) organized a Career Lift- Empowering Final Year- Students for a Successful Career Transition program on November 26, 2024 for III year B.Com (Banking and Insurance) students in the hall no.32. Dr.M.Subramaniam, Head of the Department of MBA, provided a detailed overview of Fintech Block chain. Dr.D.Abraham Pradeep, Associate Professor of MBA, delivered a speech on career option. Dr.R.Sivajothi, Assistant Professor of MBA, elaborated about Data Analytics. Mr.P.Selvam, Assistant Professor of MBA, insisted on the importance of professional grooming. This program aimed at preparing final-year students to successfully navigate the transition from university life to their professional careers. It featured a blend of training, workshops, one-on-one mentorship, networking opportunities, and real-world exposure. The goal is to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the competitive job market.

Outcome of the Program

  • Students were able to understand more about the employer’s expectations. Furthermore, they learnt about polished resumes, enhanced interviewing skills, and the confidence to approach job opportunities.
  • Students become more confident in their ability to navigate the job market, as they gain practical insights and hands-on experience in job applications and workplace expectations.

       The program provided students with a unique combination of technical and professional skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for successful careers in emerging technology fields, business management, and data-driven roles. The holistic outcomes from the program helped the students stand out in the competitive job market, offering them the tools to navigate both the technical and professional demands of their future careers.

ORIENTATION TO I, II & III B.COMB&I STUDENTS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024–25

Mrs.V.Padmavathy, Head of the Department of Commerce (B&I), gave an orientation speech to I B.Com,II B.Com & III B.Com  B&I students on the first day of Even Semester 2024–2 on November 18, 2024.She elaborated the academic activities to the students for the odd semester. She further insisted on the importance of discipline as the core value of the college. They were further motivated to develop their skills and knowledge to enhance their performance during the semester. In the name of the Almighty, all the faculty members wished the students for good career prospects. Totally 193 students from I B.Com, II B.Com & III B.Com B&I got benefited from the Orientation.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO NAGA FOODS PRIVATE LIMITED

The Department of Commerce B.Com (B&I) organized an industrial visit to Naga Foods Private Limited, Pudhupatti, Dindigul on October 4, 2024.Totally, 66 students from I year B.Com (B&I) along with Mr.N. Arunkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) and Dr.A.Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) visited the factory. The students were briefed on the historical background, the top level management, various departments and various products of Naga. The students were able to witness the production process of vermicelli and pasta in the factory. To put it in a nutshell, the industrial visit was very useful for the students and they had practical exposure to the commerce field.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT KODAI CHOCOLATE FACTORY, KODAIKANAL TALUK

The Department of Commerce (Banking & Insurance) organized an industrial visit to the Kodai Chocolate Factory, Kodaikanal on October 1, 2024. Totally, 60 students from III B. Com. (B&I), along with two faculty members, Mrs. R.Nithya Kalyani, Assistant Professor, B.Com (B&I) and Mr. Bharathi, Assistant Professor, Department of English visited the factory. The students were briefed on the evolution, founder of the company, management team, and functional departments. The students were able to witness the production process of Chocolate. They interacted well with employees of Chocolate to clarify their doubts and maintained discipline during the industrial visit.

INTER- COLLEGIATE

The Department of Commerce participated in Intercollegiate Meet organised by Fatima College on September 30, 2024. Totally, 8 students from II Year (B.Com B&I)participated in the Inter Collegiate Meet. Ms.S.Sai Sruthi and Ms.R.Suriya Prabha of II B.com (Banking & Insurance) received the certificate for Paper presentation and Ad zap Event, and Ms.G.Keerthiga,Ms.S.J Akshayaa, Ms.Chandra Kala, and Ms.P.Shoba of II B.com (Banking & Insurance) received the certificate in the Ad zap event, and Mr.P.Shrikumuran andMr.Nandha Kumar of II B.com (Banking & Insurance) received the certificate in the Business Quiz event.

TAMILNADU JOB FAIR

Tamil Nadu Government Job Fair was held on 28.09.2024 at The American College premises. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, providing a platform for individuals to explore various employment opportunities within the government and private sectors. The fair took place for two days. Dedicated sessions allowed job seekers to connect with industry representatives. Interactive booths were set up for direct employer-candidate interactions. Many companies conducted immediate interviews for open positions, streamlining the hiring process. Totally, 15 students from the department of B.Com (Banking and Insurance) participated in the job fair. Among them, six students got selected. The companies that selected the students are HiTech R Group of Companies, HRH Next Services Private Limited, and Ideal Traders Company and they immediately issued appointment orders for the students. The Tamil Nadu Government Job Fair successfully facilitated connections between job seekers and employers, significantly impacting the local job market. The event not only provided immediate employment opportunities but also empowered participants through skill development workshops.
