Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Explaining the Significance of Medicinal Herbs Available Locally to Household Women”

The Department of Food Science and Processing Management organized an Outreach Program (SLCS Samaaj Seva) on “Explaining the Significance of Medicinal Herbs Available Locally to Household Womenon 29.08.2022 between 02.00pm-04.00pm at Thirumanagalam, Madurai. This program is arranged in order to create awareness among the household women about the significance of medicinal herbs and its therapeutic importance. Our students prepared value added products using various herbs and distributed pamphlets on the same. This activity mainly aims at improving the health in curing the common diseases in accordance with, medicinal herbs at sustainable cost. This also helped them to get an idea about planting the herbs in their houses. Totally 13 students participated and 20 members got benefited from this activity.

Outdoor Catering at Sterling Fern Hill Resort, Ooty Sterling Lake Palace Alleppey Resort, Kerala

Department of MC&HM gave an opportunity for the students to do outdoor catering program (ODC) from 23.08.2022 to 29.08.2022 for 7 days at Sterling Fern Hill Resort, Ooty and Sterling Lake Palace Alleppey Resort, Kerala. Totally, 21 students from second and final year taken this ODC program from 23.08.22 to 29.08.22. They learnt different operation procedures, Preparing Mise-en-Place at work place, Buffet arrangement, Table setting for Banquet, Conference Hall and many modern techniques. This opportunity motivated and gave hands- on practice to the students and they were able to discover more about their career interests and gain valuable experience.

Student Achievement in Sports

Mr. A.Abimannan, II B.Com., (Hons’) ACCA, participated in the “State Level Championship” organized by “Ever Shine Boxing Academy” held at Chennai,  from 25.08.2022 to 28.08.2022. He has Secured Silver Medal and Certificate in ‘67 Kg to 71 Kg’ weight category of senior level. He has appreciable performance in his sports activity & academic performance and career guidance is continuously offered by our Professors, Physical Education Director, Principal and Management of our esteemed Institution. The Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA appreciated the remarkable performance of Mr. A.Abimannan.

Report about “ Workshop on Research Tools & Techniques”

Research & Publications and IPR Cell organised a Workshop on “Research Tools & Techniques” on 27th August 2022, at 2.30 pm in F-31of our college premises. Dr Sivajothi (Asst. Prof- MBA) is the resource person for the workshop. The event was organized to trained the faculty members about the few selected research tools and techniques and the usage of SPSS packages (demo version).  Totally, 19 faculty members are benefitted out of this program.

Outreach Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) – “UPI & E-Wallets Awareness”

Lakshaya, an Association of the Department of MBA, organised an Outreach Activity (SLCS Samaaj Seva) “UPI & E-Wallets Awareness” on 27th August 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at East Masi Street, South Masi Street, North Veli Street and Town Hall Road in Madurai District. The event was organised to create awareness on the Unified Payment Systems and E-Wallets. The students briefed the advantages of using digital payment system. Totally 12 II MBA students participated in the activity. Dr. K.S. Karthick Babu and Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep were the coordinators.

A WORKSHOP on “WAREHOUSE SAFETY MANAGEMENT”

On 26.08.2022, ZEAL Association, Department of BBA and IQAC, Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science, Madurai, organized a workshop on “WAREHOUSE SAFETY MANAGEMENT” for I BBA students, to get awareness on warehouse safety management, prevention of accidents and injuries. Mr. I. VIVEK RAMKUMAR M.E (ISE), HOD/F & amp; IS, and Mr. R Brameshwaran, HSE Trainer/Assistant Professor, addressed our students and explained: “What is fire?”, “What are the possible ways of fire accidents?”, and “How to prevent fire accidents?”; actions to be taken to mitigate fire, inspections, and hazards reporting in the warehouse. The students get to know about different fire- safety devices in the office and building and became familiar with the building’s emergency procedures.  Finally, they learned how to extinguish it quiet and calm. The students had great practical exposure. Totally, 56 students were benefited.

Women’s Equality Day -Cooking Competition for Faculty

On Women’s Equality Day 2022, the department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management (HEN Association) organized a Cooking Competition for faculty members. Totally, 22 staff from various departments actively participated in the competition. All the participants prepared innovatively and presented their food using with millet, Vada, Paratha, Beetroot Pesarattu, Radish Halwa, fruit juices, Rice payasam, millets laddu, coconut rice, Gobi 65, and many more. The dishes were judged by Dr. R.Sujatha, Principal and Dr. S. Priya, Dean Academics. They interacted with our staff to find out the ingredients of the recipes, their nutritional values, and the significance of the dishes prepared by them.  Mrs. Anuradha.N and Mrs.Nirmaladevi.S from the Computer Science Department won first prize; Mrs.Pandi Selvi.A and Mr.Sathishprabhu from the F&IS Department won second prize; Mrs.Sumathi and Mrs.Nirmala from the SLCS office won third prize in this competition.

Port Visit to VOC Port, Tuticorin

·        To understand the process of loading and unloading cargo operations.

·        To understand the traffic process of vessels into the port.

Key Highlights:

·        Students along with staff reached the VOC Port at 11.30 a.m.  After paying the necessary entry fee, the port authority permitted to visit the unloading area of Berth No. 9, where a bulk carrier vessel was unloading the Coal cargo.

·        Later, we were permitted to enter in to the deck of the ship and observed the loading process.

·        Finally, we visited the signal station of the port, where the station in charge explained the process of entry and exit traffic into the port.

Outcome(s) of the activity:

·        The students were able to

·        understand the basic port operations in the port and obtained the hands- on training of loading process inside the bulk career ship.

·        understand the traffic operations of the vessels inside the port.
