As part of the student’s overall growth a Talent Hunt was organized to help the students exhibit their talent and to bring out their hidden talent. It started with a III year B.Com student teaching a few dance steps to the other students. Many students exhibited their multiple talents with the I year girls and boys leading the way. The first year students sang many songs and also staged a skit on the suicide of “Anita”. It was a very enlightening afternoon for the students.
STUDENT’S SEMINAR
Students from II BBA have been motivated to undertake seminars for their juniors. Students accepted the responsibility and discharged it effectively. The students from I BBA had an interesting experience to listen to their seniors. They also took it as an example of enhancing their communication skills and taking up similar initiatives in the future.
Diabetes Awareness Programme
Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science and Thangamayil Jewellery organized a Diabetes Awareness programme with Dr.V.Palanikumaran MD., D.Diab (MMC) for the faculty members at the college premises on 09.09.2017 at 3.00 pm. The programme was presided by Principal of SLCS, Dr.P.Saravanan and the Chief Organizing Officer of Thangamayil Jewellery Mr.V.Vishvaa Narayan.
The principal, in his speech mentioned the importance of Diabetes Awareness and also gave a simple but effective way to control Diabetes that is RED – Rest, Exercise and Diet. Mr.V.Vishvaa Narayan, Chief Organizing Officer, spoke of the association between Thangamayil Jewellery and Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science and also introduced the speaker Dr.V.Palani Kumaran.
Dr.V.Palani Kumaran spoke at length about diabetes, sharing his knowledge about the types of diabetes, symptoms and the treatment to control diabetes. This was followed by an interesting interaction between the faculty and the doctor.
Mr. Suresh Raja of the department of Business Administration not only welcomed the guests and faculty members but also thanked them.
Students Participation in FStival’17
Fifteen students from I, II and III B.Sc., Computer Science and the Assistant Professor Mr. S.Vignesh M.E., attended the Open Source Festival (FStival’17 – Software Freedom Day – 2017) which was conducted to celebrate the International Software Freedom Day by Thiagrajar College of Engineering, Madurai on 09/09/2017.
Career counseling – PG
Department of Visual communication conducted a Career counseling session on 08/09/2017, for the 2nd year M.Sc Viscom.
Mr. C. Manikandan was the mentor of 2rd year Viscom students. He counseled the students about career opportunities in current media industry.
Totally 08 students participated in the event. The staff who took the workshop were immensely experienced and professional. The interactions made sure that there was no low point in the session. It gave everyone a clear perspective for the long run. All the factors affecting the choice of the students were addressed and the myths and superstitions regarding the choices were removed to a large extent. They showed presentations and various forms which were and organized and broken down into particular streams. It was very informative and interactive and even quite fun. They quite well managed to persuade the parents to attend their sessions being conducted separately too.
Extension Activity – Govt.High School, Valayankulam
As a premier institution of Madurai, SLCS is proud to share its knowledge about the “Parameters for currency value differences” to Valayankulam Govt. High School students. It gives the school students awareness of the currency values among different countries and the reasons behind the differences of these values. These were presented through power point and charts by our students to the school students.
Field Visit to Azhagar Kovil
A Study and Field Visit tour was arranged for the 1st year Animation students to Alagarkovil to improve their knowledge in Photography and Drawing skills.
Mr. P. Thirunavukkarasu (H.O.D, Animation), Mr. V. Chenthil Kumar (Coordinator, Animation) and Ms. N. Selvi (Asst Prof, Dept. of Tamil) were accompanied the 50 students. Students were taught Photography and drawing by the staff members, they practiced drawing and live portrait sketches. It was a one day tour. The tour started at 9.00 AM and was over by 3.45 PM.
Teacher’s Day Celebration
Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science in association with Thangamayil Jewellery Limited, Madurai conducted Teacher’s Day Celebrations to honour the dedicated teachers for their meritorious service on 05.09.2017 at 4.00 pm in the college auditorium.
Mr.Balarama Govinda Das, Chairman & M.D Thangamayil Jewellery , Madurai was the chief guest Dr.P.Saravanan, Principal, SLCS , R.L.Ramnath COE, SLCS , Mr.V.Vishvaa Narayanan, Chief Organizing Officer, Thangamayil Jewellery and Mr.K.Archunan ,Vice Principal ,SLCS were the other dignitaries present.
Mr.K.Archunan, Vice Principal, SLCS gave the welcome address. The Principal of SLCS Dr.P.Saravanan delivered the presidential address. The COE of SLCS Dr,R.L.Ramnath and Mr.V.Vishvaa Narayan delivered the felicitation address. The Chief Organizing Officer delivered the felicitation address. The Chief Organizing Officer stressed the importance of a teachers in a society.
The chief guest in his speech pinpointed the special role of teachers as educators and instillers of good manners and discipline in the students.
A debate was conducted for the faculty members which was judged by Dr.R.L.Ramnath COE,SLCS. Mr.P.Thirunavukarasu , HoD dept. of Animation thanked the gathering.
TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATION
Teacher’s day was celebrated on 05.09.2017. The students welcomed the faculties and organized various activities portraying the importance of education and the role played by teachers. Teachers emphasized that students should learn with discipline, thereby marching towards becoming a responsible citizen. Students gave mementos to their teachers.
“Thaagam” – Best Short film award
Student R.Hariharan and his team members M.Arunkumar, B.Karthick, S.Karthick and S.Ganesh Babu from 1st year B.Sc.VisCom had won the Best Short film award for their short film “Thaagam” in the Rally for River Competition Organized by ISHA , Madurai. The short film dealt with the water scarcity and its effects in the near future. The event was held on Sep 04, 2017.
