OUT DOOR CATERING (ODC) at Sterling Resorts Kodaikanal Lake, Kodaikanal

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management was given an opportunity to have an outdoor catering training at Sterling Resorts Kodaikanal Lake, Kodaikanal on 03.02.2023 to 04.02.2023. Totally, 5 students from I & II MCHM were able to gather knowledge on the outlet operation procedures, Buffet arrangement, Table setting for Banquet Hall and many modern techniques. This opportunity motivated and gave worthy experience to the students.

Seminar on “Entrepreneurial Finance”

Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) jointly organized a Seminar on “Entrepreneurial Finance” on 03.02.2023 at Seminar Hall of our college premises. The Resource Person, Dr. N. Selvalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (SF), Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, (Autonomous), Madurai, shared her experience to the students. She motivated the students to think of the entrepreneurial finance as the process of acquiring capital and making financial decisions for a new venture or startup. On starting a company, entrepreneurs dedicate a majority of their time securing the funds to make their vision a reality. This involves approaching of investors and seeking loans that can allow them to launch operations and acquire resources. Funding may be provided by friends, family, venture capitalists, angel investors, banks and other sources. Totally 51 students and 7 Faculty members participated and got benefitted by attending this program.

State Level Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights”

Mr. C. Suresh Kumar, HoD & Assistant Professors, V. Gangadharan, P. Anand, E. Jacob Jebaraj and R. Ganesh, of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management attended the one-day State- Level Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights” organized by the Department of Computer Application, Satellite Campus, The American College, Madurai, on 03.02.2023. The resource persons discussed the legal rights that protect creations and/or inventions resulting in an intellectual activity in the industrial, scientific, literary, and artistic fields. They also expounded on patent rights and trademark registration.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO SAKTHI SUGARS LTD., SIVAGANGA

Department of Commerce (Honours) ACCA visited Sakthi Sugars Ltd., Sivagangai Unit, Padamathur B.O., Sivagangai on 31.01.2023 (Tuesday). The main objective of the visit was to provide a technical exposure to the students about the manufacturing process and technology. This visit was organized during the annual maintenance period of the sugar factory. So, the students got a rare and great exposure to the details of the sugar manufacturing technology and bagasse based power generation technology, by witnessing the dismantled machineries and equipment. Totally, 49 students from ACCA along with 3 faculty members visited the factory.

Administrative training program

Department of Fire and Industrial Safety and NRP Safety Solutions organized “Road Safety and Defensive Driving” training program for SLCS faculty, non teaching faculty, driving school staff and drivers at SLCS on 31.01.2023, as part of the 34th  Road Safety Month.

Mr. R Prabhu, Director & Lead Safety Consultant, NRP Industrial Safety Equipments & Services, conducted the training program. The guest speaker explained the road safety rules and regulations and also shared video footages of various types of accidents. He instructed defensive driving techniques for vehicles. The participants appreciated Mr. R Prabhu for the useful program. Totally, 105 participants benefited through this program.

Career counseling on “Job Opportunities in Merchant Shipping”

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a career counseling program on “Job Opportunities in Merchant Shipping”. An alumnus, Mr. R Navaneetha Krishnan, interacted with all the students (for a total of 30 students) on 31.1.2023. He is a former student of the department and is working as a General Steward for Sea Team, Chennai. He created awareness among the students on the Job Opportunities in Merchant Shipping.  He talked on how sailing is perfect for people who are attracted to the sea. The shipping industry is one of the best fields to build a career in marine catering. Students can join in a merchant ship as general stewards and learn the duties and responsibilities, importance of health and safety measures, selection process, and documents required to join a shipping company. The program boosted students’ confidence.

“Innovation & Entrepreneurship Outreach Program in Schools”

ZEAL Association of the Department of BBA along with the Institution’s Innovation Council – SLCS, conducted an outreach program “Innovation & Entrepreneurship” in Mahatma Montessori School – BABA – CBSE on 31.01.2023Dr. Kumaran Thayumanavan, HOD, Department of BBA and Dr. B. Meenakshi Sundaram, Convener – SLCS IIC, were the speakers. The program was divided into two sessions. The first session was handled by Dr. Kumaran Thayumanavan. He explained the nature and key role of entrepreneurship in developing the Indian Economy. The second session was addressed by Dr. B. Meenakshi Sundaram. He dealt with the role of Innovation in developing entrepreneurship. In total, 3 Students from II BBA and 2 Students from I BBA assisted the event. Totally, 205 school students and 14 Teachers from Mahatma Montessori School eagerly participated in the program.

Awareness on Human Trafficking – Observing “National Human Trafficking Day”

ZEAL Association, Department of BBA, organized a SLCS Samaaj Seva – Outreach Activity observing “National Human Trafficking Day” on 31.01.2023 at Mahathma Montessori School, Madurai, to educate the school students on human trafficking. The Students of BBA exhibited the problems and causes of human trafficking with videos. They also promoted the use of “KAAVALAN” app which was introduced by Government of Tamilnadu to protect oneself from trafficking.  The whole promotional drive was quite inspiring and the activity motivated the school students. Our students were appreciated by the management and teachers of Mahathma Montessori School. Around 205 students from school along with 14 teachers participated in the activity. In total, 3 students from II BBA and 2 Students of I BBA eagerly participated in the program.

Outreach Program (SLCS-Samaaj Seva) on “Act Now. End Leprosy”

To commemorate “World Leprosy Dayon 30th January 2023, FAGAS Association and Health and Nutrition club together organised an outreach program on the theme “Act Now. End Leprosy”. Our students explained the importance of self-awareness on the early diagnosis of leprosy in an individual. Our students shared the improved access to essential health treatments which are crucial to eradicate the stigma associated with leprosy.  Totally, 9 students of I FSPM participated in this outreach program and 10 members from the public got benefited through this activity.

“Leadership Talk with Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman AICTE”

The Ministry of Education organized a session “Leadership Talk with Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE ” on 30.01.2023.  The program was organized by SLCS – Institution’s Innovation Council as live stream through YOUTUBE Platform. Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, was interviewed by Mr. Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer, Ministry of Education. The interview was conducted to provide an insight to all participants to develop India through Innovation and Research. It also helped to obtain knowledge on the activities carried on by the IIC in developing Higher Education Institutions. The participants understood the key attributes for the development of research and funding support from AICTE in developing our institutions. Totally, 51 students and 25 Faculty Members from various departments eagerly participated in the program.
