ALUMNI INTERACTION

The Department of Commerce (B.Com Banking & Insurance) organized an ALUMNI INTERACTION session along with the inauguration of the Cuentas Association at the Annexure Hall. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Abraham Pradeep from RLIM, who served as the resource person.

During the Alumni Interaction, Dr. Pradeep shared his extensive knowledge and experiences, focusing on the importance of aligning academic pursuits with industry demands.

The event stretched first, second, and third-year students, benefiting total of 191 participants. During the inauguration, new office bearers were elected, Ms. Lakshmi Priya from the third year B&I was appointed as President, Mr. Kesavan from the third year as Vice President, and Ms. Lavanya from the first year as Secretary.

VALUABLE COURSE IN ECONOMICS

The Department of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) conducted a valuable course in economics in banking from July 3 to July 13, 2024, which held in Hall No. 112. The course, led by Mr. K. Hariharan, an alumnus from the batch of 2020-23, was specifically designed for third-year students preparing for their Diploma in Banking and Finance exam. This course aimed to provide targeted insights and practical knowledge, proving to be highly beneficial for the student’s exam preparation and their future careers in the banking and finance sector. Totally 80 students got benefited from this programme.

CAREER GUIDANCE AWARENESS

On July 17, 2024, the Department of B.Com (Banking & Insurance) hosted a career guidance awareness Programme in Hall No. 114, organized and  collaborated with The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). The session featured Mr. Raja from the ICSI Madurai Chapter, who serves as the Secretary. The program was designed for first-year students, providing valuable insights into career opportunities and guidance in the field of company secretaries, helping them understand the pathways and benefits of pursuing this profession. Totally 66 students got benefited from this programme

INTER COLLEGIATE MEET

The Department of Botany at Lady Doak College organized State Level Inter Collegiate Meet on 05.01.2024.Totally,5Students from I Year of B.COM (Banking &Insurance) participated in theInter Collegiate Meet. Mrs.E.Hema, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (B&I) accompanied the students. The students received participation certificates for all the events.

SAMS FUN FRIDAY

The School of Animation and Media Studies inaugurated its monthly event for this Academic Year, “Fun Friday,” on June 21, 2024, on the day of World Music Day. The event was a vibrant showcase of student talents, featuring both singing and instrumental performances. The gathering took place in room S52 from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. A total of 70 students participated in the event.

Yogeshwaran S M, student of III B.Sc. Visual Communication delivered the welcome address, setting a positive and enthusiastic tone for the event. The Head cum Assistant Professor of the School, Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, addressed the audience and appreciated the students for their participation and encouraged them to engage actively in future events, emphasizing the importance of such activities in fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed members of the institution’s administration. Principal Dr. R. Sujatha, Vice Principal Dr. Guru Baskar, and Dean of Academics Dr. S. Priya attended, showing their support for the students and the event. Additionally, Mrs. Suganthi Hepzibha, the IQAC Assistant Coordinator, was in attendance, along with the faculty members and students of the School of Animation and Media Studies.

“Fun Friday” promises to be a recurring highlight in the department, aimed at encouraging creativity, building community spirit, and providing a platform for students to express their artistic talents. The successful inauguration has set a promising precedent for the upcoming events, ensuring that the School of Animation and Media Studies remains a lively and dynamic place for both learning and creative expression.

“The Role of Career Guidance in Abroad”

 Program Objective:

  • Get to know about the career opportunities available in Abroad and cruise line shipping
Session Report:

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a career counseling programme on “The Role of Career Guidance in Abroad” for all second and final year MCHM students (70 students) on 19.07.24 . The resource person, Mr. Hemant Handore, Founder, My Overseas Career Consultant, Mumbai, created awareness among the students about the career opportunities aboard, especially in Mauritius and France, as well as cruise line companies. He gave a  detailed guidance to the students about the selection process, visa process timing, accommodation and food, leave, and medical benefits during the internship, and also explained the duration of the internship programme and salary. The students will be selected on the basis of their communication skills and technical knowledge. They got selected for this internship as well as the cruise line opportunity. Finally, students were able to get international exposure and job opportunities to work in Mauritius and France, as well as cruise line companies..

Program Outcome: After completing this counseling program students will be able to

WORKSHOP ON CARVING (VEGETABLE, FRUIT & ICE)

HEN Association of the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management conducted a three-day workshop on Carving on 16.07.24 to 19.07.24 for the students of I and II years. Mr. Jayakumar Chandran  of  Prasanna Carving Academy, Chennai, was the resource person for the workshop. The chef said that carving is an extracurricular activity for the hotel management students and can be learnt with self-interest, dedication, creativity, concentration and knowledge of drawing in order to become good carvers. He also gave hands-on practice for the student to carve 4 and 5- petal flowers with radish, carrot, cucumber, beet root and water melon. They displayed their vegetable flower bouquets and carving arrangements in the college premises. This workshop gave a lot of motivation and encouragement to the students, who also had a memorable experience. Totally, 72 students participated and got benefitted through this program.

MILLET MAHARANI

The students of Marine Catering and Hotel Management participated in the millet maharani competition jointly organized by Aashirvaad and Dinamalar Newspaper on 25.2.24 at Madurai. Six students, Mr.Hemanathan G, Mr.Jegan M, Mr.Lakshmi Ramana P, Mr.Sanjay R, Mr.Saravana Kumar M, and Mr.Sriram G, from the first year, actively participated in the millet food competition. This competition motivated and encouraged the students and also made it a memorable experience.

PARENTS- TEACHERS MEET

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a Parents-Teachers Meet for the first and second-year students (69 students) on February 28, 2024at 2:00 P.M. The meeting was conducted under the guidance of Mr. C. Suresh Kumar, the Head of the department. The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss students’ performance and devise ways to enrich their learning experience. The class in-charge announced the students’ attendance and internal marks, and also discussed the preparation for the semester examination. The PTA meeting concluded with a briefing on the progress and development of the students, emphasizing the joint effort of parents and teachers

INDUSTRIAL VISITS TO MUNNAR AND COCHIN

Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management, organized an industrial visit to Munnar and Cochin for two days 22.2.2024 to 23.2.24. 46 students from I and II year MC&HM and Five faculty members participated in this visit. The Students visited various places in Munnar such as Rose garden, Mattupetty Dam, Top Station, Photo point, Attukkadu falls on 22.02.2024 and the next day the Students visited Wonderla Theme park in Cochin. Through this educational tour, the students gained experiential learning which helped them to understand the history, art and culture of the people, food habits, and social background of the local people in Kerala state. In this trip, students built closer bonds with their classmates, experienced new environments and enjoyed the day away from the classroom.
