The Department of Computer Science (SSS), as a part of its Extension Activity (SLCS – SamaajSeva), organized a program “Importance of Cyber Security” on 16.10.2023 between 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM at BMK International School, Aruppukottai. Six students from I and III B.Sc CS (SSS) demonstrated live defence attacks to the school students. They explained all the tools and menus in Kali Linux. Finally they created awareness among the school students about toll free number and website to register about the online frauds. Totally 50 students from BMK International School, Aruppukottai got benefitted in this activity.
Awareness on Cyber Security through Community Radio
Department of Computer Science (SSS and DSA), as a part of its Extension Activity (SLCS – Samaaj Seva), organized a program “Awareness on Cyber Security through Community Radio” on 28.03.2024 from 12:00 Noon to 01:30 PM. Students performed the role play with scripts. This programme would have been an awareness for the public.
Outcome: Awareness on Cyber Security was spread to the public through the community radio.
Extension Activity
On August 4th, 2023, the Department of Computer Science at Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College organized a comprehensive “Cyber Security” orientation program for the 12th-grade students of KRS CBSE School. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of online security in today’s digital age.
At the event, Assistant Professor S. Krishnaprasad from SLCS College led the session, accompanied by knowledgeable students R. Ganesa Subramaniam, K. Karuppusamy, and Saran. They all joined forces to educate the young audience about the potential threats of malware programs on the internet, the intricacies of online transactions, and the risks associated with certain mobile phone apps.
The speakers emphasized the critical need for students to exercise caution when dealing with online platforms that might attempt to compromise their personal information. Through engaging explanations and relatable examples, they shed light on the methods used by cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data.
The highlight of the program was the interactive Q&A session where the students had the chance to clarify their doubts. Enthusiastic participation from both the speakers and the students created a dynamic learning environment, allowing for a fruitful exchange of knowledge.
By the end of the orientation program, the students left with a better understanding of the cyber threats that exist in the digital realm and the practical steps they can take to safeguard themselves. The event served as a valuable reminder that in an increasingly interconnected world, staying informed about cyber security is not just important – it’s essential.
Awareness on Road Safety
Department of Computer Science (SSS and DSA), as a part of its Extension Activity (SLCS – Samaaj Seva), organized a program “Awareness on Road Safety” on 13.01.2024 from 09:30 AM to 03:30 PM at Periyar bus stand and MGR bus stand. Students were allowed to spend their one day with traffic police officers at the respective places. Students participated in the activity and gave awareness to the public on pedestrian crossing, wearing helmet, over speed and footpath travelling.
Outcome: The people were supportive to the SLCS students and cooperated for the day. If the same is practiced throughout the entire process on road safety will be fulfilled.
PARENTS TEACHER MEETING
The Department of Animation conducted the Parents Teacher Meeting for the I, II&III Year Animation students on 09.09.2023 between 02.00pm and 04.30pm.Mr. P. Kishore Kumar, Head i/c cum Assistant Professor welcomed the audience with welcome address. The main aim of the meeting was to create a common platform, where teachers and parents come together to discuss student’s performance and devise ways to enrich their learning experience. The Parents were informed about the Academic Performance of the Students (Course wise) in the Continuous Internal Assessment – I(2023-24oddsemester). They also informed regarding the Attendance and the Status of the Assignment submissions of individual student. Parents were encouraged to appreciate student’s participation in all academic activities. The PTM came to an end with the conclusion that the progress and development of the students depend on the joint efforts of parents and teachers. The Vote of thanks was proposed and the Feedback was collected.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT: OUTDOOR LEARNING TO AZHAGARKOVIL
D.P.Roy Choudhury Association of Animation department organized a Industrial Visit entitled “Outdoor Learning to Azhagarkovil” on 30.06.2023 at .Outdoor learning through its immersive experience can provide a sense of time and place for critical inquiry in artmaking.Outdoor environment offers a new spectrum of opportunities that can extend the indoor class and enrich learning, especially for art.The activity provided &allows the students to express their relationship with the world around them by thinking in, through and with art.
They also can learn through what they do, through what they encounter and through what they discover. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world.
This activity enabledthe students to express what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes.Mr.Naveendra Kumar&Mr.ArulYogaraj, Assistant Professors of the department gave a demonstration on the place and the doubts were clarified on the spot. The Event ended fruitfully and 57 Students from II, III &P.G.Diploma in Animation Techniques were benefitted through this event.
INDUSTRIAL TOUR TO “MUNNAR”
The Department of Visual Communication organized anIndustrial tour to Munnar from August 22nd to 25th, 2023, for 27 students to gain practical experience in photography, video production, landscape drawing, and storytelling.
Day 1: Departing SLCS Campus at 8:40 AM, the group reached Munnar by 3:00 PM and checked into Hotel Greenleaf Holidays. Students explored local sights, practicing outdoor photography and refining skills in composition and lighting.
Day 2: Students visited Top Station at 9:30 AM for landscape pencil drawing, honing creativity and sketching techniques. At 12:30 PM, a visit to Idukki Dam offered opportunities to photograph its grandeur, focusing on advanced photography tech
Day 3: The day included sightseeing and video production projects at 9:30 AM, enhancing skills in video shooting and editing. Visits to an Adventure Park and Elephant Camp at 12:30 PM provided material for photography and videos. A campfire at 7:00 PM encouraged storytelling and shared experiences.
Day 4: The group departed Munnar at 9:00 AM, arriving at SLCS by 3:00 PM.
This enriching tour offered hands-on experience in visual communication, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios while ensuring a memorable and educational journey.
“Madurai Animation Summit 2023”
The Department of Animation organized the “Madurai Animation Summit 2023” on November 17, 2023, at our college campus, with the goal of raising awareness among the younger generation about the growing importance, need, and future scope for animation artists. The summit featured a variety of insightful sessions, focusing on different aspects of animation production, distribution, and emerging technologies, led by both industry professionals and enthusiasts. Distinguished chief guests, including
Dr. Prabhakar Vedhamanickam, Head of the PG Department of Tamil at American College, Madurai; Mr. Darling Richard Son, renowned film editor from Chennai; and Mr. Bala Seyameshwaran, Managing Director of Seyamesh Solutions, Madurai, graced the event and shared their expert perspectives, greatly enriching the summit.
As part of the celebration, creative competitions such as Drawing, Short Film, and Photography were conducted for +1 and +2 students, allowing them to explore and showcase their artistic talents through self-made projects. The event provided a comprehensive understanding of the animation industry’s potential while nurturing the creativity of young minds, positioning the summit as a platform for learning and inspiration for the next generation of animation artists.100 Students were benefitted through this event.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT: FIELD TRIP TO KARAIKUDI
D.P. Roy Choudhury Association of Animation department organized a Industrial Visit as “Field Trip to Karaikudi” on 29.07.2023. The Students from I, II & III year were taken to this trip. The Main objective of this trip is to know the Tradition & Architecture of Art. Karaikudi and surrounding areas are generally referred as “Chettinad”. The Students were taken to the luxurious and beautiful Athangudi Palace in Karaikudi. It is a house with 600 ornate windows and 64 grand rooms with tiles imported from Italy, coloured glasses brought all the way from Belgium, intricately carved massive wooden doors and jharokhas, Massive Varandas covered in Chettinad Tiles beautifully coloured artwork all across. The design is heavily influenced by Indo-European architecture, and it is evident in every corner. Then the students were taken to Kundrakudi Temple to observe the Ancient Architecture. At last they were taken to Chettinad Vintage Car and Camera Museum. An impressive collection of vintage cars and cameras, which is undoubtedly a treat for automobile and photography enthusiasts. A lot of them are in working condition and the manager there is graceful enough to demonstrate them as well.The Students enjoyed the Trip and they sketched & photographed the visited places. The Event ended fruitfully and totally 75 students were benefitted through this event.
