The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized an Alumni Interaction for the second year (25students) on 29.7.2021. Mr.Yogeshwaran.M, an alumnus of the department, presently working as Room Attendant, ITC Grand Chola, Chennai , was the resource person. He created awareness among the students about the “Hospitality Higher Education and career opportunity in Canada’’. He spoke to the juniors about Master Degree Programs available in the field of Hospitality sector, eligibility to join the course and enormous job opportunites available in Canada. The talk was interesting and the students gathered information on the career opportunities and higher studies in abroad. Students also asked several questions at the end of the session.
Webinar on “Convert Guest into Loyal Customers “
The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management conducted a Webinar, under the title “Convert Guest into Loyal Customer” on 29.7.2021 for the Eighty-five students of second and third years. Mr.C.Suresh Kumar, Head of the Department, welcomed the gathering. Mr.M.Prasanna Ramanadhan, Front office Manager, Regency by GRT Hotel, Madurai was the resource person for this occasion.
The Chief Guest Mr.M.Prasanna Ramanadhan informed the students about the way to greet the guests, Handling the Guest Complaints, Role of Travel and Tour Assistance, night auditing, over booking, Telephone Etiquettes and also explained about handling the Guest reservations. He also gave tips on New Customers to Regular Customers. This webinar motivated and encouraged the students besides making it a memorable experience.
Peer teaching
In Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) Ms.Bharathi of III year student handled peer teaching to her classmates on the topic – “Objectives and advantages of Cost accounting”. She explained the topic in an efficient manner and all the students observed her teaching effectively. The session was a lively and interactive.
Mentor Meeting Report on 28-07-2021
The Department of Networking conducted an Online Mentor Meeting on 28-07-2021 (Wednesday) at Windows Lab. MrM.Athigopal, Head of the Department met his mentees between 03.20 PM and 04.20 PM. During the mentor meeting, students shared their difficulties and grievances with the mentor.
WORLD HEPATITIS DAY AWARENESS PROGRAMME
To commemorate “World Hepatitis day” the Department of Food Science and Processing Management & Health and Nutrition Club jointly organized an Online quiz Contest on the theme of Hepatitis Can’t Wait for the students on 28.07.2021 in https://forms.gle/dSmihEXAv3GfxBSo8. To create awareness among students Ms.A.Sona, Head of the Department, high lightened the meaning of Hepatitis, Symptoms, foods to be included & excluded in our diet in F26 Classroom through this link https://meet.google.com/lookup/eawvdj6hlc?authuser=1&hs=179 at 3.30pm. Around 25 students of our Department participated and got benefited in this program.
Inauguration of Culinary Club
- The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management has inaugurated Culinary Club for the academic year 2021-2022 on 26th July, 2021 through online mode from 3.20 PM to 4.20 PM. Students from various departments participated in the club activity.
- The welcome speech was given by our Culinary Club coordinator Mr.R.Ganesh, Instructor, Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management.
- The club adviser Mr.C.Suresh Kumar, HoD, MC&HM has delivered his speech on the importance of this session. He also explained how to equip and prepare balanced diet by exploring the new ways in the field of cooking.
- The Club endeavored to generate an interest in creative and diverse culinary heritage by bringing out the hidden talents of the youths.
- The main objective of this program is to inculcate food safety and the healthy cooking habits which will help to lead a strong and healthy life.
- The Hospitality industry is one of the service oriented industries which will extend helping hand to the society in order to emphasis the relevance of social responsibility among the club members.
- The vote of thanks was given by our Culinary Club student, Ms.Iniya, from the department of Com.
II MBA Orientation Program (AY: 2021-22)
II MBA Orientation Program (Academic Year 2021-22) on 26th July 2021 was organized by RLIMS. During this program all the core, ancillary, and elective courses were briefly explained to our II MBA students by all the MBA Program Course Faculty Members.
KARGIL VICTORY DAY
In sensitizing the students towards the Indian constitutional obligations: rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens and to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas, the department of Languages in association with the IQAC organized a webinar on celebrating the Kargil Victory Day on 26.07.2021 at 11.30 am.
The Chief Guest Maha, Somaskandhamurthy, Head, Shyamalavani Community Radio shared the Values and Rights of the responsible citizens of our country. He also emphasized the students that it is not only the responsibility of the soldiers but it is also the responsibility of every citizen to abide by the rules and to uphold the values of our Country. He stated that everyone should focus on the three pillars of Dedication, Distress and Discipline in their life to succeed as an Indian Citizen. He explained that the three pillars of success with three moral stories will inspire the students to uplift their attitude. Ms. I. Swetha of III B.Sc Animation presented a special speech on the topic “Kargil Victory”. Her speech was really inspiring. Around 94 students participated in the webinar and got benefitted.
The department also motivated the teaching, non-teaching staff and students to take up an e-pledge which was circulated through a google form. Totally 150 responses were received.
OUT DOOR CATERING (ODC) at Madurai Drive Inn Restaurant, Madurai
Six second year students from the department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management were given an opportunity at Madurai Drive Inn Restaurant, Madurai , to be a part of outdoor catering (ODC) on 25.7.21. They were able to gather knowledge about outlet operation procedures, Mise en Place work, Buffet arrangement and table setting for restaurant. This opportunity motivated and gave hands- on experience to the students.

Career Opportunities in banking sector
The Department of Commerce – B.Com (B&I) organized career counseling program for III B.Com B&I students on 24.07.2021 Mr.V.Vijavel, Deputy Manager, IndusInd bank and also our alumni, interacted with our students and informed our students the opportunities that are available in banking sector. Further he explained how to prepare for the bank exams. He also insisted on the significance of Diploma in Banking and Finance (DBF) exam, which we offer as value added course to our students. The session was interactive and 65 students got benefited through this program.
