On 25.2.23, the Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management went on a field visit to Keezhadi, Sivaganga District, with the second and first-year students (40 students). The students are aware of the Keezhadi excavation, which was carried out by a team of archaeologists from Tamil Nadu and Kerala and discovered a Neolithic burial site dating back to 4900 BC. The excavations were carried out in Keezhadi village near Madurai in Tamil Nadu between 2013 and 2015. The excavation also revealed human habitation during the Sangam period (Sangam-age settlement). There is evidence of burial under mounds or cairns containing pottery vessels and other objects made from stone slabs or clay, and they found several cemeteries with human remains and animal bones, besides other artifacts such as beads, pottery, and stone tools. Students will gain a better understanding of Tamil civilization and have a memorable experience as a result of this field trip.
